Wow, BC seems to have engaged in some serious Marathon Man-level Method Acting.

Sporting with the Fbclid (James Redd and the Blecchs), Wednesday, 24 November 2021 14:10 (four years ago)

I was going a few months there where I wasnt really getting the use out of it but I've seen some great stuff over the last two months

The Nun (Rivette, 1966)
Ponette (Doillon, 1996)
In the Name of Christ (M'Bala, 1993 - strange religious satire from the Ivory Coast)
Mandabi (Sembene, 1968)

Saxophone Of Futility (Michael B), Wednesday, 24 November 2021 14:31 (four years ago)

MUBI GO is a cheat, cheat, cheat. Instead of the Romanian film they promised it is still the Jane Campion, so not a new film every week. BTW, the JC film is based on a book but not the book of the same title a lot of ILX0Rs like.

Duck and Sally Can't Dance (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 26 November 2021 12:37 (four years ago)

Maybe I will, um, go to Lincoln Center on my own dime.

Duck and Sally Can't Dance (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 26 November 2021 13:19 (four years ago)

I did watch Die Wand/The Wall before it leaves in five days, which I recommend.

I kind of am curious about the novel The Power of the Dog. I assume much stuff that is cryptic or murky in the movie is made more explicit, although Wikipedia has a summary with some spoilers that seems to indicate some different action from the film.

MUBI GO fixed the glitch. I’m in!

Enjoyed Microhabitat - Jeon Go-woon’s debut film. One of the user reviews compared it to Frances Ha - and it is an interesting thought.

Luna Schlosser, Sunday, 28 November 2021 00:12 (four years ago)

weird how two of the three movies I watched because they expiring from MUBI ended up on Tubi.

Looking forward to AZOR this weekend.

I loved this. (recalled reading your post when I browsed MUBI for a movie to watch so thanks for the tip :)

willem, Thursday, 2 December 2021 19:50 (four years ago)

One thing: seems to me they used to give advance notice which films were coming in a series but now they are often more cagey, so Pierrot le fou but then what.

Goofy the Grifter (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 2 December 2021 22:11 (four years ago)

Thought about going to see The Hand of God yesterday but didn't. Maybe next week.

Goofy the Grifter (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 4 December 2021 16:38 (four years ago)

Went today. Not sure how I feel about it.

Goofy the Grifter (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 7 December 2021 01:58 (four years ago)

I saw it this weekend, and was rather annoyed. But I knew going in it was another specimen of film industry navel-gazing.

Infanta Terrible (j.lu), Tuesday, 7 December 2021 03:04 (four years ago)

Enjoyed this week’s selection.

Raw Like Siouxsie (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 11 December 2021 00:20 (four years ago)

Featuring a real virtuoso performance and not just scenery-chewing like three weeks ago.

Raw Like Siouxsie (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 11 December 2021 00:39 (four years ago)

But I somehow managed to avoid Léa Seydoux up until now so maybe I am easily impressed.

And the hits keep coming

Santa’s Got a Brand New Borad (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 18 December 2021 00:07 (four years ago)

one month passes...

Just got an alert about some Jacques Demy shorts expiring.

Tapioca Tumbril (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 20 January 2022 22:46 (four years ago)

Azor is a very good period movie set in the Pinochet era. Swiss banker and his wife following a colleague who disappeared. It's a horror movie in places.

calzino, Thursday, 20 January 2022 23:20 (four years ago)

Yeah. That’s been on my list for a while/pvmic

Tapioca Tumbril (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 21 January 2022 01:05 (four years ago)

It's a very good film indeed.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 21 January 2022 01:10 (four years ago)

it's look and eerie mood sort of reminded me a bit of Il Divo, particularly that ungodly Monsignor character.

One thing I don't understand: They seem to own the distribution and streaming rights for Benedetta in the US as well as the UK, but one can't actually stream it through MUBI US. At some point there were some some things you could pay for outside of your regular membership but I don't see that anymore.

Solaris Ocean Blue (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 20 February 2022 02:36 (four years ago)

Maybe the don't own US rights, onliy UK.

Solaris Ocean Blue (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 20 February 2022 02:37 (four years ago)

In any case maybe watching Ms. 45 would be a good substitute.

Solaris Ocean Blue (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 20 February 2022 02:37 (four years ago)

IFC has the US rights. Wikipedia sentence is a little confusing: "That same month, MUBI and IFC Films acquired the distribution rights to the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the United States respectively."

Solaris Ocean Blue (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 20 February 2022 02:40 (four years ago)

Or maybe fragment of sentence that showed up in search was confusing.

Solaris Ocean Blue (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 20 February 2022 02:50 (four years ago)

Also keep seeing them talk about The Worst Person in the the World, no idea when I can see it in the US.

Solaris Ocean Blue (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 20 February 2022 16:31 (four years ago)

Oh wait, it's playing at Film at Lincoln Center. Not sure I can get over there anytime soon but it's a possibility.

Solaris Ocean Blue (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 20 February 2022 16:37 (four years ago)

Was blown away by the new film Zero Fucks Given, starring Adèle Exarchopoulos. The first half brilliantly conveys the ruthless regime of working on budget airlines mixed with the vapid and dreary 'luxury' leisure time in holiday resorts. The second half gets below the surface. A really outstanding performance.

Luna Schlosser, Thursday, 31 March 2022 23:14 (four years ago)

Oh yeah. Saw that pop up in the queue and was intrigued. Also may have used my MUBI GO today. More later.

Never Mind the ILX, Here's the Blecch Pistols (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 1 April 2022 01:42 (four years ago)

ZFG looks good but how come in English, where’s the V.O.? Maybe they shot two at the same time like in old days or maybe it’s actually just the way they did it.

Never Mind the ILX, Here's the Blecch Pistols (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 1 April 2022 13:15 (four years ago)

Oh, Adèle E was also in Sibyl which I quite liked, with Virginie Efira, although I still haven’t seen Benedetta.

Never Mind the ILX, Here's the Blecch Pistols (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 1 April 2022 13:22 (four years ago)

I watched ZFG in French with English subtitles. Definitely what I’d recommend as her voice is an integral part of the performance. (If I’ve understood the issue correctly)

Luna Schlosser, Friday, 1 April 2022 13:42 (four years ago)

In the US it seems to be an English-only version. She seems to be doing her on dialogue, it is not dubbed, but still.

Never Mind the ILX, Here's the Blecch Pistols (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 1 April 2022 13:45 (four years ago)

Maybe I will ask them. They seem to respond to their Instagram.

Never Mind the ILX, Here's the Blecch Pistols (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 1 April 2022 13:46 (four years ago)

Message sent. Let's see how this plays out.

Ahed’s Knee is what I saw in the theater. Really well done. Think I will finally get around to streaming his other stuff, especially since Synonyms just showed up on Criterion.

MUBI USA responded to my query!

Never Mind the ILX, Here's the Blecch Pistols (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 2 April 2022 19:56 (four years ago)

They reminded me that it was in English AND French.

Never Mind the ILX, Here's the Blecch Pistols (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 2 April 2022 21:34 (four years ago)

Anyway, this may be a good follow-up to having binge-watched The Flight Attendant on HBO Max.

Never Mind the ILX, Here's the Blecch Pistols (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 2 April 2022 21:37 (four years ago)

Good selection today on MUBI USA. About to dive into ZFG now.

ZFG exactly as you described it, thanks for the tip!

Came Here to Roll the Microscope (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 4 April 2022 23:10 (four years ago)

Saw THE GIRL AND THE SPIDER last night with MUBI GO. Catch it if you can.

Anita Quatloos (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 12 April 2022 14:15 (four years ago)

And this week WE'RE ALL GOING TO THE WORLD'S FAIR. Kind of a Noize Board Blair Witch Project. Very interesting.

Wile E. Kinbote (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 19 April 2022 14:37 (four years ago)

One of the main characters almost has the same moniker as an ILX0r.

Wile E. Kinbote (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 19 April 2022 14:52 (four years ago)

Christian Petzold and Delphine Seyrig leaving MUBI US at the end of this month.
