Wow, BC seems to have engaged in some serious Marathon Man-level Method Acting.

I was going a few months there where I wasnt really getting the use out of it but I've seen some great stuff over the last two months

MUBI GO is a cheat, cheat, cheat. Instead of the Romanian film they promised it is still the Jane Campion, so not a new film every week. BTW, the JC film is based on a book but not the book of the same title a lot of ILX0Rs like.

Maybe I will, um, go to Lincoln Center on my own dime.

I did watch Die Wand/The Wall before it leaves in five days, which I recommend.

I kind of am curious about the novel The Power of the Dog. I assume much stuff that is cryptic or murky in the movie is made more explicit, although Wikipedia has a summary with some spoilers that seems to indicate some different action from the film.

MUBI GO fixed the glitch. I’m in!

Enjoyed Microhabitat - Jeon Go-woon’s debut film. One of the user reviews compared it to Frances Ha - and it is an interesting thought.

weird how two of the three movies I watched because they expiring from MUBI ended up on Tubi.

One thing: seems to me they used to give advance notice which films were coming in a series but now they are often more cagey, so Pierrot le fou but then what.

Thought about going to see The Hand of God yesterday but didn't. Maybe next week.

Went today. Not sure how I feel about it.

I saw it this weekend, and was rather annoyed. But I knew going in it was another specimen of film industry navel-gazing.

Enjoyed this week’s selection.

Featuring a real virtuoso performance and not just scenery-chewing like three weeks ago.

But I somehow managed to avoid Léa Seydoux up until now so maybe I am easily impressed.

And the hits keep coming

Just got an alert about some Jacques Demy shorts expiring.

Azor is a very good period movie set in the Pinochet era. Swiss banker and his wife following a colleague who disappeared. It's a horror movie in places.

It's a very good film indeed.

it's look and eerie mood sort of reminded me a bit of Il Divo, particularly that ungodly Monsignor character.

One thing I don't understand: They seem to own the distribution and streaming rights for Benedetta in the US as well as the UK, but one can't actually stream it through MUBI US. At some point there were some some things you could pay for outside of your regular membership but I don't see that anymore.

Maybe the don't own US rights, onliy UK.

In any case maybe watching Ms. 45 would be a good substitute.

IFC has the US rights. Wikipedia sentence is a little confusing: "That same month, MUBI and IFC Films acquired the distribution rights to the United Kingdom, Ireland, and the United States respectively."

Or maybe fragment of sentence that showed up in search was confusing.

Also keep seeing them talk about The Worst Person in the the World, no idea when I can see it in the US.

Oh wait, it's playing at Film at Lincoln Center. Not sure I can get over there anytime soon but it's a possibility.

Was blown away by the new film Zero Fucks Given, starring Adèle Exarchopoulos. The first half brilliantly conveys the ruthless regime of working on budget airlines mixed with the vapid and dreary 'luxury' leisure time in holiday resorts. The second half gets below the surface. A really outstanding performance.

Oh yeah. Saw that pop up in the queue and was intrigued. Also may have used my MUBI GO today. More later.

ZFG looks good but how come in English, where’s the V.O.? Maybe they shot two at the same time like in old days or maybe it’s actually just the way they did it.

Oh, Adèle E was also in Sibyl which I quite liked, with Virginie Efira, although I still haven’t seen Benedetta.

I watched ZFG in French with English subtitles. Definitely what I’d recommend as her voice is an integral part of the performance. (If I’ve understood the issue correctly)

In the US it seems to be an English-only version. She seems to be doing her on dialogue, it is not dubbed, but still.

Maybe I will ask them. They seem to respond to their Instagram.

Ahed’s Knee is what I saw in the theater. Really well done. Think I will finally get around to streaming his other stuff, especially since Synonyms just showed up on Criterion.

Anyway, this may be a good follow-up to having binge-watched The Flight Attendant on HBO Max.
