Is anybody else watching The Expanse?

The final series and the final book coming out at about the same time so I can really confuse continuities in my head.

Other than season 1 I haven't really been enthralled by this, having said that I somehow managed to watch it all so far so I will most likely be up for the finale.

(to clarify I wasn't enthralled much by season 1 either but for me it's the most interesting out of all of it)

We were looking for a new show a while ago, and like everyone, found the first 5-6 episodes compelling enough but kind of awful. The friend who recommended it said, "trust me, it gets better, it's the best sci-fi show in years, you'll love it," and so we kept on, mostly because we both think Amos is just unstoppably hot.

And then in 1.5 months, we finished all five seasons. Super excited for the next, though am admittedly sad about it being the finale.

(I really love Shohreh Aghdashloo, I just think she's the best)

Her voice is great but her line reading is pretty stilted.

I think that's...part of her character? Sort of halting, calculating, imperious?

I mean, she's one of the greatest Iranian actresses of all time lol

I’m still stuck on Ganymede trying to finish Season Two, but I think she’s great in that role. I could easily imagine a less skilled actress turning in a kind of soap opera level performance.

Having finished book 9, genuinely cannot imagine how they'll wrap up the TV series without doing the last 3 books.

The nature of the ring gate, uh glitch, that’s been alluded to in the show could be executed differently

Hopefully that was vague enough

Also re book 9, it's a shame we won't get to see the very final scene done on TV, I think it would be a crowd-pleaser with the audience here.

At least it's only six weeks (or less?). I hate watching weekly nowadays, and will usually wait until it's done - dunno if I have the discipline to do that for the final season tho

Also, interesting that this episode (mild book spoiler:) featured the start of the Strange Dogs novella which lays the foundation for events that happen in the final three books and so you'd have thought outside the scope of the show

As a show skeptic (I'm a book stan), I really liked this episode! The Bobby and Chrissy scenes especially.

Well, Filip scenes aside, obviously.

Since I've never seen either of them in anything else, I don't know how much credit to give the two actors, but Marco and Filip really are two of the most enraging, I-want-these-people-to-die-as-painfully-as-possible characters on TV at the moment. It's pretty incredible that neither of them has had a single redeeming moment, ever. They're just horrible. It's a hell of a two-handed performance.

My least favourite characters in the books as well, Marco more than filip. the free navy went on far too long. Having now read book 9 I might do a reread of the series, and I'm more inclined to skip the Free Navy than Illas.

- i love how totally washed out and beat up the roci crew are after their firefight with the free navy. they all look tired as fuck.

- marco’s local bar has big airport mall / total recall energy
- marco’s accent has fallen off a cliff, particularly when he speaks to blonde logistics lady who seems to have only the slightest detectable belter twang
- drummer’s black kohl is off the chain
- ceres exteriors look amazing

I just loved hating Marco in the books. They’ve really captured his essence on screen

Sorry, that was dumb. I don’t know which I rmde at more, the characters, or the performances. So OTT, and the accents seem moment-to-moment.

First ep was your typical final season first ep, setting the ground work for awesome shit mostly
