Tom and Shiv’s subtle reactions to the first tastes of their wine were hilarious.

on the bright side it should adequately prepare tom for his prison toilet wine

It was such a treat to watch Connor's ego get pumped up before getting the wind sucked out of it in the end.

tom on the wine -“ its quite agricultural” lololololi really enjoyed this episodethe fascist being all “have you read plato?” to shiv was exactly how i imagined a room like that would be kendall kendalling about firing lisa arthur for telling him the truth & then trying to act like he’s not going hat in hand to Tom out of sheer desperation … this birthday is going to be a shitshow and i cannot waaaaait

Menken was such a good shiny turd “Franco, H, Travis Bickle…” …calling Hitler “H” was so hideous & absurd & awful, i gasped

incredibly bleak episode

it's interesting because fox news likely has less influence in the real world than atn has in theirs. i mean, fox was pretty desperate to find an alternative to trump until it became very clear that he'd win the primary
― grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Monday, 22 November 2021 17:36 (four years ago)
tho roman's "fascists are kinda cool, i guess" reaction to mencken before his hearty embrace of him does feel like the kind of wait-and-see approach fox took with that whole thing before going full brownshirt
― grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Monday, 22 November 2021 17:38 (four years ago)
It really felt like a deepening of the show to see Roman’s nihilistic attitude have real consequences (supporting a fascist) rather than just being comic relief.

shiv’s defiant protest meekly descending from “i won’t be pictured with him” to “i’ll be in the picture but i won’t stand next to him”
― grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Monday, 22 November 2021 18:11 (four years ago)
Yeah for a second there I really thought Roman was having second thoughts about backing him (like "uh oh this guy means it"), but nope, fully down the dark path. And I had almost forgotten Shiv was still supposed to be a socially liberal democrat.

also in true roman fashion the Menken bathroom scene is basically them fucking without actually fucking he is such a little shitweasel

"The seat-sniffer?!" was straight out of Peep Show.Really didn't know who 'H' was, obviously kept thinking Steps
Weirdly I just watched Only Connect which had a conversation about hating Hamilton, right before watching this. Weird.
Can't wait for the horrible mum's wedding.
― kinder, Monday, 22 November 2021 22:49 (four years ago)
roman is interesting because on the one hand he's nihilistic enough to support a fascist because he flatters his family and makes him laugh, but also naive enough to get upset about his absentee mom getting engaged without telling him (maybe because he holds out hope of his parents getting back together???)

There's at least one other tv show where there's been a minor plot line about people getting wine made from their own vineyard or similar and obviously it tastes disgusting - anyone remember what else I'm thinking of?

I am 1000% less interested in this show when it's about Republican politics, I am hoping this is yet another subplot they'll kind of forget about but I fear not.

Feel like now Greg won't inherit and has lost all leverage with his grandpa, why would the Roys still have him hanging around? Why don't they just ditch him? I mean, he's still great comedic value but from a plot perspective, he doesn't seem to have a point anymore.
― Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 23 November 2021 01:19 (four years ago)
hbo official podcast had a wild guest this week; anthony scaramucci.it seemed like it was more of a let’s see what happens than anythinghe talked about this wk’s episode (sort of, when he wasn’t aggrandizing himself lol) and it was as bizarrely unhinged as you would expect - within the first minute he desribes the presidential candidacy process as “thoroughbredding” detailing how a donor’s sperm fertilizes a candidate’s egg etc etc and my soul literally shriveled and left my body through the floorhe also loves the word “apotheosis” & hates shiv (likened her to Elektra) in a way that is depressingly revealing & predictable ._.

Feel like now Greg won't inherit and has lost all leverage with his grandpa, why would the Roys still have him hanging around?
During the scene of the family picking a candidate, there were a few odd shots that focused on Greg when he wasn’t at all the focus of the scene.

logan occasionally likes to hear the everyman’ point of view and greg is as close to an everyman as it gets in the roy orbit

agh there are only 9 eps this season!
― kinder, Tuesday, 23 November 2021 08:13 (four years ago)
I think it's partly because he is expendable to them. Kendall's mistake is telling him he intends to burn him, which just pushes him further over onto Logan's side. Logan probably intends to burn him as well, but he isn't going to tell him that.
― trishyb, Tuesday, 23 November 2021 09:14 (four years ago)
gregs appeal to logan all along has prob just been to needle his brother
― lag∞n, Tuesday, 23 November 2021 13:35 (four years ago)
this episode felt particularly nasty and venomous. i don't mind this show when its rich people eating each other but it gets a bit nauseating when it reminds us we are essentially beneath their notice.
sexual tension with roman and hitler youth guy was partic icky.
