Ha i thought Keith Moon WAS Alice Cooper in the pic. Those Chuck Taylors are not regulation tennis shoes btw.

sounds like it was organized by the Eagles. (But it doesn't show up on the Eagles tour itinerary from that year, that I can tell.)
I kind of remember this get a very brief mention in the Marc Eliot Eagles bio. Henley had gotten into tennis as a way to exercise his back, and iirc he and Irving Azoff were behind the event using the Eagles' name.
...
DON: Tennis was really blowing up on the international stage in the mid '70s. I enjoyed watching it between shows and during lulls in our recording sessions, but playing it was another thing...there weren't alot of tennis courts up in my corner of Texas. But California is another world, and soon I was on the court and loving it.
GLENN: Hey, I was the TEEN KING, not the TENNIS KING, so obviously I was skeptical about the whole thing. But I rolled out from Coldwater Canyon and hit the club and I became a believer. Those short skirts! All that bouncing! Hey Helen, I'm ready!
DON: Well, yeah.

Yes.

Something about that camera angle maybe, but Bolan has a Depp vibe (or, rather, the other way round)

"The meeting was very strange... I told him I was on a promo tour. He asked, "What's the promo? I said, 'Me.' ...Then he mentioned that he had met another one of the Beatles, but he wasn't sure which one, which was the one with a Japanese wife? 'Oh, it's probably John,' I told him. He had problems with Immigration. He asked me if I was having problems with Immigration and I replied: 'No, I still live in England.' (George, in his 1976 meeting with Henry Kissinger. "it's probably John"
Clearly allowing for the possibility that Kissinger actually meant to refer to reputed "fifth Beatle" Billy Preston, who was briefly engaged to Kiko Kawashima, current Crown Princess of Japan.

I know, SNL, but: Lenny Pickett, G.E. Smith, Jimmy Workman, Christina Ricci (the latter two in-character as the Addams kids), and Junior Brown*.
*The musical guests for SNL that week were Stone Temple Pilots, whom Brown would sit in with on Letterman about five years later.

Who indeed. Seriously(ish) though, the Allman Brothers Band are even less popular outside the US than the Grateful Dead so expecting everybody else in the world to know who any of them are is a tad optimistic.
― When Smeato Met Moaty (Tom D.), Sunday, 12 December 2021 10:40 (four years ago)
Who would the uk equivalent of dickie betts be?
― calstars, Sunday, 12 December 2021 13:33 (four years ago)
I don't know enough about Dickie Betts to answer that question tbh. A guy who played guitar in a 70s rock band that never really sold anything outside the UK - maybe Rick Parfitt?
― When Smeato Met Moaty (Tom D.), Sunday, 12 December 2021 13:59 (four years ago)
I"m American, so this is a guess, but would Wilko Johnson be the UK Betts you're looking for?

John Mayall, maybe.

Season 7 SNL 'Goodnight' w/Rick James, Eddie Murphy, Lauren Hutton, William S. Burroughs, and Joe Piscopo
Great episode, Burroughs did a fine job singing "Give It To Me Baby" and Joe Piscopo's dramatic reading of Cities of the Red Night is still legendary!
