Tom and Greg are comic gold!
I’m in the middle of S2…the bit about the ATN “we’re listening” speech had me in stitches

calstars, Tuesday, 16 November 2021 14:43 (four years ago)

we hear... for you
is all time
there was an Apprentice episode where one fuckstick came up with a diet catfood with the tagline "see they're light" which has the same energy.

kinder, Tuesday, 16 November 2021 14:58 (four years ago)

also good old romulus did pretty good with The Raisin!

a (waterface), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 15:15 (four years ago)

the bar was admittingly low for him there though

(•̪●) (carne asada), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 15:17 (four years ago)

This show nails a good balance between drama and comedy

calstars, Tuesday, 16 November 2021 15:18 (four years ago)

yea it’ll be interesting if logan digs at roman @ all for the prez convo in comparison to his clearly berating shiv for her actions while he was piss mad (shiv “well what would you have done?” logan “not that”)

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 16 November 2021 15:35 (four years ago)

shiv's impressive the last few episodes. kendall is such a dumb dipshit.

yet another episode ending with kendall *crushed* --that shot of him in the terrible office, man oh man, and realizing his dad isn't coming

a (waterface), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 15:36 (four years ago)

when ewan tells greg he’s donating his fortune and greg says “even my part?” and ewan says “yours was the first part”

*chef’s kiss*

grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 15:40 (four years ago)

that’ll teach greg for messing with roger pugh, ewan’s close personal friend!

i'm kinda glad i'm not binging this show i love savoring it the whole week but i will prolly go back and binge the whole season over a few days once it's done

a (waterface), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 15:42 (four years ago)

like i miss so much b/c it's so dense. i forgot about Tom's "but he isn't even wearing a tie" until I read a recap.

connor re the president was brilliant too

kinder, Tuesday, 16 November 2021 18:18 (four years ago)

lol @ shiv’s reaction to “Dad said I get European Cable”

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 18:27 (four years ago)

fave thing this week was the frank/karl/gerri interplay as they keep trying to stall the shareholder meeting, karl is such a POS

na (NA), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 18:55 (four years ago)

and Karl finally wanting to go out when there was good news, to which frank threw his hands in the air.

dan selzer, Tuesday, 16 November 2021 19:33 (four years ago)

this season is not as good as the first two

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 19:40 (four years ago)

ha, i think it's the best one so far

a (waterface), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 19:46 (four years ago)

yes all the vamping stuff was so funny! karl leaving frank in the lurch literally on-stage was amazing

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 19:48 (four years ago)

i enjoyed "moon on a stick". presumably that was armstrong.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 19:53 (four years ago)

me too! obviously

kinder, Tuesday, 16 November 2021 19:54 (four years ago)

(obvious if you know me, i mean)

kinder, Tuesday, 16 November 2021 19:55 (four years ago)

I presumed the same

bobo honkin' slobo babe (sic), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 20:13 (four years ago)

nah that phrase dates back to Stewart Lee & Richard Herring's mid-90s sketch show Fist of Fun.

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 20:24 (four years ago)

yes that's why i assumed it was armstrong.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 20:29 (four years ago)

Why would that lead you to think it was Armstrong who plagiarised the line? The script is co-credited to Tony Roche, it could just as well have been him who nicked it.

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 20:45 (four years ago)

i was trying to work out if it was an actual phrase...
didn't they also reference Stefan Strauss earlier (from Peep Show)?

kinder, Tuesday, 16 November 2021 20:50 (four years ago)

and corndogs and toenails for the rest of us

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 21:18 (four years ago)

xxp "plagiarised"? yes i guess it could have been the other english writer. i didn't check. i'm sorry please forgive me.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 22:06 (four years ago)

Nearly all the writers are English, and the “writers room” is in Brixton. The line which works clearly in context as well as a nod to a comedy duo of a slightly earlier age obv could have been from anyone, but feels like Armstrongian playfulness.

bobo honkin' slobo babe (sic), Tuesday, 16 November 2021 23:13 (four years ago)

fun episode too, I guess they scaled back production and did some social distancing for covid reasons. I found the theatre like staging with lots of anon extras enhanced the sense of how all these Waystar schemers are lost in their own ambitions. The inner circle is a lonely place. Jostling for position in front of the ailing king. The Waystar A.G.M. had a Waystar Four Season Total Landscaping vibe, which again was partly to do with covid restrictions, I guess. Is a jigsaw piece missing regarding the telephone call Logan received behind the scenes, with tom... was Logan faking something!??

Swanswans, Wednesday, 17 November 2021 07:28 (four years ago)

ha, i think it's the best one so far

I haven't totally decided how I feel about this season yet but ... no

xheugy eddy (D-40), Wednesday, 17 November 2021 08:02 (four years ago)

show your work

a (waterface), Wednesday, 17 November 2021 13:27 (four years ago)

that sounds more flip than I meant it to be. Am interested in why people thing this season isn't as good.

*the screws are tightening on the family
*Kendall is a hot mess
*As are the rest of the kids, but watching Kendall go through all of this and try to get traction has been great, am genuinely curious how next week will go, looks like he's maybe being deposed?
*I thought all that Holly Hunter/Rhea from Season 2 wasn't great and ultimately distracting
*Shiv is rising through the org and doing great work but also getting yelled at by Logan in ways he's only yelled at Ro-Ro and Ken Ken
*The stakes are super high for Tom, and you can almost feel it, his outburst last week w/Egg, his crazy shit with Shiv this week

a (waterface), Wednesday, 17 November 2021 13:31 (four years ago)

i could see someone saying season 1 is maybe a lil less good as the show needed to get its footing but otherwise this season is just as good imo as last season and its operating at a v v high level

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 17 November 2021 14:01 (four years ago)

waterface otm, for all those reasons. I really like this season. I thought Sunday's episode felt like it could have been a season finale, rather than just the halfway point.

a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 17 November 2021 15:23 (four years ago)

i love all seasons equally just like i love my children roman kendall shiv and the other one

lag∞n, Wednesday, 17 November 2021 15:32 (four years ago)

Many great moments in this episode and the season overall. Shiv's hamhanded but quasi-successful attempt to form a daughters' bond with the other Sandy was well played on both sides.

i do love this season, but I read this today and kind of agree (possibly mildish spoilers for future episodes though)

kinder, Wednesday, 17 November 2021 16:07 (four years ago)

shiv got the deal done and sold it so well she actually believed she was getting that board seat

lag∞n, Wednesday, 17 November 2021 16:12 (four years ago)

that article is interesting but see--I totally connect with them as humans and feel stuff for them. That's why I cringe whenever one of the kids or Greggy fucks up: They're human! They could be doing so much better! They make bad decisions!

But something is lost when the Roys go so far that we can’t connect with them as humans. The question of whether TV characters should be likable is, at this point, as tired as day-old guacamole. But without being able to occasionally feel something for the characters on a show, I don’t see much point in watching—especially when the glorious schadenfreude of watching horrible people suffer is undermined by the emphatic weight of knowing how their suffering will reverberate out to others.

a (waterface), Wednesday, 17 November 2021 16:34 (four years ago)

The question of whether TV characters should be likable is, at this point, as tired as day-old guacamole.

shouldve stopped there

lag∞n, Wednesday, 17 November 2021 16:43 (four years ago)

Agreed, waterface, they're human in so many ways. The eps have felt less varied this season. Maybe I just want to see more sunny beaches and the best coves.

kinder, Wednesday, 17 November 2021 16:58 (four years ago)

oh i feel that. lotsa dull board rooms this year and conference centers. sounds like from that atlantic article & that NYER article awhile back that we're getting some Italy sometime this season.

Kendall's apartment is pretty boss

a (waterface), Wednesday, 17 November 2021 17:01 (four years ago)

Not even his apartment though, isn't he still in his ex's?

I am definitely looking forward to a chance in scenery though.
