Look even if he walks free the kid is not gonna have a normal life at all, see how this worked out for George Zimmerman and OJ Simpson

well, there is one big difference between rittenhouse and zimmerman/oj.

This kid will be a congressman.

A Pile of Ants (Boring, Maryland), Thursday, 11 November 2021 00:24 (four years ago)

It wouldn’t surprise me, sadly.

Legalize Suburban Benches (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 11 November 2021 00:25 (four years ago)

As someone who lives about a mile from where the pigfaced fucker Kyle Rittenhouse is being tried, I just have to say that this shit is awful and exhausting, and yet not as bad as living through fuckface pig Derek Chauvin's trial prior to moving from Minneapolis.

The prosection has indeed been terrible, and the judge is indeed a rotten fossil of a man, conservative like all the judges in this backwards ass state. There have been parades of threeper trucks through town, Nazi stickers appearing overnight, and a cadre of "supporters" holding vigil in the city park across the street from the courthouse.

I have so many more opinions on this but they're generally just expressions of sad, tired rage and don't really lend anything to the conversation. I moved here for a great job and don't want to grow to hate the place before I've even lived here four months. Lake Michigan is pretty, that's a posi point.

underminer of twenty years of excellent contribution to this borad (dan m), Thursday, 11 November 2021 00:42 (four years ago)

Where are you moving next, so we know what to expect?

(But seriously, on the plus side: New Glarus! Brat Stop! Um ... Tenuta's?)

Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 11 November 2021 00:45 (four years ago)

Xp I managed to land on the tenure track, so assuming I don't eff that up (and the conservative troglodytes in the legislature don't defund the UW System) I am not planning on moving anywhere for a good long while.

underminer of twenty years of excellent contribution to this borad (dan m), Thursday, 11 November 2021 00:48 (four years ago)

I don’t get it. If this dude was shooting people, do other people not have the right to confront him with their own guns? Isn’t that what the whole 2nd amendment conservative gun rights movement is all about? The right to defend yourself and others from active shooters, by confronting them with your gun if not straight up shooting them, regardless of whether or not they directly threatened you? Like, if Rittenhouse had shot some dude who had been shooting other people, he would have been a hero, right? But he just shot some people, and then shot someone who was confronting him with a gun for having shot other people, and he’s a hero in this situation too? So basically, he was golden no matter what the fuck he had done.

epistantophus, Thursday, 11 November 2021 02:34 (four years ago)

but see he's a good guy with a gun, the other guy is a bad guy with a gun

Cool Im An Situation (Neanderthal), Thursday, 11 November 2021 02:35 (four years ago)

Like, what the fuck right did he have to shoot anyone, full stop?

epistantophus, Thursday, 11 November 2021 02:36 (four years ago)

business was threatened.

Cool Im An Situation (Neanderthal), Thursday, 11 November 2021 02:38 (four years ago)

i mean of course it's absurd but even people who aren't raging NRA lunatics accept the twisted logic as "understandable" and refuse to prosecute actual murderers.

Cool Im An Situation (Neanderthal), Thursday, 11 November 2021 02:39 (four years ago)

they're almost worse than the NRA assholes because they should be joining us to help defeat this gun fetishism but instead they shrug and go "well u know 2nd amendment and do i want to wreck a guy's life, he said he felt threatened!"

Cool Im An Situation (Neanderthal), Thursday, 11 November 2021 02:40 (four years ago)

It’s almost like, simply because he had a gun, it was ok for him to use it, if he felt like he had to. But, what the fuck kind of anarchy is this?

epistantophus, Thursday, 11 November 2021 02:41 (four years ago)

It’s like the whole “stand your ground” legal bullshit. Here we had two people “standing their ground” against each other. Who was vindicated, who won? The one who shot first. We’re back to legalized duelling. This always felt like the natural endpoint of eliminating gun restrictions- everyone is armed, we’re having Wild West shootouts, and it’s a fucking coin flip as to whether you’re cast as the villain or the good guy. But probably if you’re white and you have an assault rifle, you’re the good guy.

epistantophus, Thursday, 11 November 2021 02:51 (four years ago)

The "test" of what's reasonable for a cop to murder you got set to the low bar of how threatened the cop felt before killing you. Since the cop could always testify that he/she perceived a threat, even if it was a misconception.

"I told the suspect to drop to his knees and raise his hands but he didn't do it in the requisite 2.5 seconds" (translation: I yelled incoherently at him) "so I drew my gun as a precaution and repeated my instructions (yelled at him some more and flipped off the safety) "then when he did drop and raised his hands I thought the cell phone he held was a gun (translation: he was a black man) It all happened very fast and I had to make split-second life-or-death " (translation: I panicked).

This garbage has been getting cops off for decades. Now the "feelings of threat" test is getting claimed by white vigilantes, too.

more difficult than I look (Aimless), Thursday, 11 November 2021 03:00 (four years ago)

the "bombshell" testimony which will supposedly acquit him is such bullshit, the man was trying to disarm someone who ALREADY KILLED A DUDE.

don't let it get you down. Wisconsin is awesome. I think the good people outnumber the bad. and I grew up in fucking Manitowoc

frogbs, Thursday, 11 November 2021 03:09 (four years ago)

anyway the disturbing shit about this is this apparently widely believed idea that the protestors deserved to die, because they were "there to cause violence". never mind that the only people who died were the those that this fucking Nazi gunned down. also never mind that these are the goons who made "ALL LIVES MATTER!" their entire personality for an entire fucking year.

To meet the demands of Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.), the White House agreed to drop a proposed 3 percent tax on taxpayers earning over $5 million, instead agreeing to target the higher tax to those earning more than $10 million, two people familiar with the matter said on the condition of anonymity to discuss the internal negotiations. The move exempted roughly 35,000 of the wealthiest Americans, or approximately .02 percent of the richest 1 percent, from the new levy, according to the most recent Internal Revenue Service data.

The Biden administration also agreed to pull a proposed tax in late October targeting 700 billionaires after it faced criticism from a number of top Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), who complained in one phone call with senior party officials on Oct. 26 that the plan amounted to a publicity stunt, two people familiar with the matter said. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) also raised substantive objections to the plan.

i'm imagining making $5M in a year. the government wants to take an addition 3% of it from me, because i'm rich. i'm so good at having money, i know how to calculate how much this costs. 3% of $5M is $150,000. i make $5M a year like a total badass, and now i have to give up $150,000 of it? so that it can be given to other people? wtf, i'm sick of being oppressed. i need that money

At the Kyle Rittenhouse trial this morning, the judge asked, given that it's Veterans Day, if there were any veterans in the room.

The only one appeared to be Rittenhouse's next witness, a use of force expert. So the judge asked everyone in the court to applaud for veterans. pic.twitter.com/LmjAuu5Vzj

— Nicholas Bogel-Burroughs (@NickAtNews) November 11, 2021

is it normal to ask the jury to applaud for the defense's witness

This guy is such a fucking clown, but knowing guys like him from that exact area (developers in the Kenosha area), he probably woulda applauded the prosecution's witness too if he was a vet. These guys have such a hard-on for the military.

wouldn't it be a additional 3% marginal tax on income above $5 million, and not an additional 3% on the first $5 million?

xp -- I don't think so! I just mean it's bad that the judge is an asshole, but good that he's making it plain. If Rittenhouse gets acquitted, maybe the prosecution can appeal on the grounds that he obviously had the judge on his side? I dunno.
