and some accidental hockey poetry to boot!

andrew m., Friday, 29 October 2021 14:34 (four years ago)

that is fantastic

Hope FLA sticks with their asst coach and doesn’t bring in someone like Tortorella

Michael F Gill, Friday, 29 October 2021 15:05 (four years ago)

is it just me or was there a hint of the great Bobby Orr goal vs St Louis there?

underminer of twenty years of excellent contribution to this borad (dan m), Friday, 29 October 2021 18:40 (four years ago)

Probably not just you. If there is a goal even the most casual hockey fan knows, it’s that one.

Michael F Gill, Friday, 29 October 2021 18:42 (four years ago)

Hard to see this as a worthwhile gesture and not a cynical ploy to influence opinion/coverage in the face of impending lawsuits

Argh line break broke the link

Not sure if the Sabres got enough for Eichel. Seems pretty good for Vegas. Sabres then had to take on the LTIR contract of the basically-retired Johnny Boychuk to get back to the capfloor. Certainly helps the Isles.

Michael F Gill, Friday, 5 November 2021 02:36 (four years ago)

I think Tuch is really good (but I might just think that bcz he destroyed the canucks every time they played)

symsymsym, Friday, 5 November 2021 04:49 (four years ago)

Kraken got a hat trick at home, and it seemed like the fans were a little reluctant to throw their brand new, somewhat-expensive hats/gear onto the ice.

that's terrible and lucky? jeez

mookieproof, Saturday, 6 November 2021 03:14 (four years ago)

I definitely laughed at the slide and the fact that it somehow worked

Michael F Gill, Saturday, 6 November 2021 03:21 (four years ago)

It’s a 3 dimensional sport

Its big ball chunky time (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Saturday, 6 November 2021 14:12 (four years ago)

awww. someone won a shutout

mookieproof, Friday, 12 November 2021 04:05 (four years ago)

dark times are coming for the penguins but i shall nevertheless cherish back-to-back shutouts in montreal and toronto

mookieproof, Sunday, 21 November 2021 03:32 (four years ago)

Islanders fell apart at the end of their 13-game road trip, and just as they were ready to open their new home arena tonight, a mini covid outbreak happened, causing 5 of their starters to miss the game (which they lost). Welp.

Michael F Gill, Sunday, 21 November 2021 03:40 (four years ago)

lou totally infected them

mookieproof, Sunday, 21 November 2021 03:41 (four years ago)

Yes but the infection cleared up an additional $2 million in cap space somehow

Michael F Gill, Sunday, 21 November 2021 05:11 (four years ago)

real whirlwind six months for the canadiens

mookieproof, Sunday, 28 November 2021 16:11 (four years ago)

it certainly has.

fire bergevin, hire a young quebecois genius for their dream job.

Totally meaningless move - Philly perpetually delusional that they are Cup contenders one piece away and it must be the coach's fault.

hocus pocus, alakazam (PBKR), Monday, 6 December 2021 15:26 (four years ago)

i don't think they considered themselves cup contenders, but i'm sure they had designs on the playoffs -- the athletic had them at about 33% to make it at the start of the season -- and there aren't too many coaches who can survive getting absolutely crushed at home in an eighth straight loss

kinda wondering where the line is for lou at this point? isles have had a brutal schedule, terrible injury/covid luck and they're hardly likely to bring in a better coach than trotz, but lou has never been one to shy away from change for change's sake

mookieproof, Monday, 6 December 2021 22:04 (four years ago)

I haven't been this down on the Flyers since 06-07 when they had the worst record in the league. I kind of hate them now because of ownership's insane 20+ years of lurching from one shiny toy to the next. The organization consists of ex-Flyers whose only qualifications are that they are ex-Flyers. At least Hextall had some plan, but tried to be competitive while rebuilding, which is not a great approach imo.

I would definitely grab Trotz if I thought a coach would make a difference - it won't.

hocus pocus, alakazam (PBKR), Monday, 6 December 2021 22:16 (four years ago)

Such a cruel twist of fate so far for the Isles. This is the first year in decades where they were picked by people as a potential Stanley cup finalists, and they finally got the new arena they deserve after so much turmoil. And yet so many things have gone wrong. I don’t know how you improve by replacing Trotz. Lou did magically make a lot of cap space reappear though, so there’s room for changes at the deadline.

Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 7 December 2021 00:45 (four years ago)

Yeah, Trotz might wear you out, but it seems too soon.

hocus pocus, alakazam (PBKR), Tuesday, 7 December 2021 01:04 (four years ago)

i'm still trying to get used to our new coach and all these changes. he hasn't said the F word nearly as much as what i've heard in the past, but i'm assuming he's just getting warmed up

the best players are alive today

Its big ball chunky time (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Wednesday, 8 December 2021 13:32 (four years ago)

Jacob Trouba of the @NYRangers has had a Gordie Howe hat trick (goal, assist and fight) both last night and tonight.

He's the second player in NHL history to have a Gordie Howe hat trick on back-to-back days, joining the Canadiens' Doug Risebrough (February 15 & 16, 1975).

That’s good stuff right there

ESPN rinkside reporter just said Ovechkin drinks Pepsi while playing (it's in his Gatorade water bottle, apparently), but prefers Dr. Pepper between periods. Respect.

isles won a home game!

mookieproof, Sunday, 12 December 2021 05:17 (four years ago)

Has to be one of the longest winless streaks ever to open up a new arena. Glad Parise finally got a goal after so many near misses.

The title to this thred may be my best work as there may only be four players holding the cup this year

Its big ball chunky time (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Wednesday, 29 December 2021 21:32 (four years ago)

old school penguins hockey today: up 6-1 after one, up 6-5 five minutes into the third, eke out 8-5 win

also that thing with the kraken fan + canucks coach was pretty cool

mookieproof, Sunday, 2 January 2022 21:23 (four years ago)

25 fantastic minutes of pens swarming and shooting their asses off was good enough against the sharks, fortunately. bit more concerned about the blues thursday. gonna be more of a grind.

obviously shit can happen -- we're not even halfway through the season -- but eight eastern conference teams are now above 90% to make the playoffs

and the rest are fucked (unless the isles go absolutely insane)

mookieproof, Saturday, 8 January 2022 23:40 (four years ago)

Isles (and possibly Sens too) continue to have some of the worst luck/scheduling issues I’ve ever seen in a season. It’s like as soon they finally got back into a groove they were given 13 days off.

Michael F Gill, Sunday, 9 January 2022 00:38 (four years ago)

On this day in 1993, Mario Lemieux announced he had been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. Lemieux would miss nearly the next two months for treatment, but would return in March and win the scoring title by season's end #Hockey365 #LetsGoPens pic.twitter.com/HZkhggBcUq

Flyers and Isles are so horrendously bad at shootouts that they went 9 full rounds (17 misses) before the Isles finally got a single goal to win it
