Dr Freud! Quick, come and see what he's said now ...
― a tiny, faltering megaphone (grimly fiendish), Sunday, 19 July 2009 15:24 (sixteen years ago)
Well, believe it or not it was actually just a subtle 'can we not go to Mono' point!
― Keith, Sunday, 19 July 2009 15:38 (sixteen years ago)
Tuesday is now fine because the football's on the Wednesday, was going to have to be a pub with a telly if the Champions League qualifier second leg was on the Tuesday. My attendance is entirely dependent on holiday plans now. Hopefully we can make it though, would be good to meet Dr C.

Gukbe: they sell St Mungo's in the Bier Halle on GWR. They even have the West stein-style glasses. Also I think maybe the Goat? Should check it out.
(Hello all. To the people I know: yes, I've not been around in a while, but I am trying ILX more.)
― mdg, Sunday, 19 July 2009 18:40 (sixteen years ago)

― Dr.C, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 22:00 (sixteen years ago)

― grimly fiendish, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 22:03 (sixteen years ago)

― ailsa, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 13:38 (sixteen years ago)
I have it in my head that Dr C is a real ale kind of guy. that requires a real pub.
How do people feel about the Pot Still? It is great, and we have been there before with little dissent.
― ailsa, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 13:56 (sixteen years ago)
Ha, yes- real pubs are very much appreciated, but I'll leave it up to you folks. The Pot still looks great - my drinking capacity is somewhat reduced at the moment, so I won't be demolishing gallons of whiskey. Good ales are OK though.
― Dr.C, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 14:32 (sixteen years ago)
the pot = the pewter pot?
― ken "save-a-finn" c (ken c), Wednesday, 29 July 2009 14:42 (sixteen years ago)
No, Ken, the Pot Still is a real pub.
http://www.scotchwhisky.net/bars/potstill.htm
(don't click the link to www.thepotstill.co.uk, as it doesn't go anywhere?)
― ailsa, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 14:57 (sixteen years ago)
no idea why I put a question mark there, sorry.
These things happen Ailsa, don't beat yourself up about it!
I will email a couple of people my mobile number before tuesday just in case my plans go awry - Shall I send it to Ailsa and Grimly?
I hope to have time to visit Fopp before ale - which one is best/biggest? Or is there anywhere else better for cheapo recds? I can't be arsed to trek too far though as I think I will be arriving around 4pm, so won't have much time.
― Dr.C, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 15:16 (sixteen years ago)
Aye, send away, I've got most people's number who might want to go.
You probably want the Fopp on Union Street. Where are you arriving from/where are you staying/how long are you around? Mono, much as I can't be arsed with it, has a good record shop just off the bar (though not particularly cheap).
― ailsa, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 15:20 (sixteen years ago)
dr c, neither of the fopps in glasgow are as good as the one in central london, sadly
just round the corner from fopp, underneath the railway arches (and virtually next door to The Arches venue) is a 2ndhand shop called missing, which does have some bargains and would be well worth a browse
― Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 15:25 (sixteen years ago)
Oh aye, missing is pretty good. I guess, depending on what you're after, should recommend Avalanche as well, since at least one potential pub companion works there...
― ailsa, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 15:27 (sixteen years ago)
Avalanche is on Dundas Street, by the way, just up the steps from Queen Street Station (between Queen Street Station and Buchanan Street Underground)
― ailsa, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 15:29 (sixteen years ago)
Thanks - all sounds good. Wish I was staying longer...
― Dr.C, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 15:39 (sixteen years ago)
pot still is, i think, quite close to stereo? so we could do both pubs potentially. old man and pale vegan.
i will come for sure.
― jed_, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 16:00 (sixteen years ago)
This is exciting! (bet we get a last minute holiday deal and fly out on Tuesday afternoon or something now)
― ailsa, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 16:16 (sixteen years ago)
Wow, I'm out of touch - I thought Missing shut about a decade ago.
― Keith, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 18:16 (sixteen years ago)
Last time I was in Avalanche the exciting new release was the Felt DVD. So not that long ago really. Last time I was in Missing they were playing something involving a little kid talking about sucking tits. It later transpired that is was the This Is England soundtrack.
― PJ Miller, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 18:34 (sixteen years ago)
keith, it reopened a year or so ago, i think.
― jed_, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 19:15 (sixteen years ago)
there's always been a missing in glasgow since i moved here (august 2006) - they used to be round the corner from their present location - and i think they have a second shop, too
― Ward Fowler, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 19:27 (sixteen years ago)
Ah OK, that would explain this then, Jed. There certainly used to be more than one - one was on Oswald Street, I think, and another on Wellington street. Can't quite remember all the timings. One on Gt. Western Road too at one point.
― Keith, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 19:50 (sixteen years ago)
Pot Still is great, I like it there.
Come browse in Avalanche, I'm the potential pub companion that works there. Although I may be contractually obliged to recommend a look, I also mean it genuinely. We're about the closest to the Pot Still too.
― krakow, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 19:53 (sixteen years ago)
There is a Missing in Paisley as well, but I always forget it's there. I have no idea how it survives, because every time I remember it's there, there's never anyone else in it.
― ailsa, Wednesday, 29 July 2009 23:40 (sixteen years ago)
I pretty much stopped going to Missing when they stopped selling new stuff - probably about 5 years ago. They used to be good for new releases on Constellation & Southern & other post-rocky type labels. This is before I realised I could sit on the Internet and never need to enter a record shop again, obv. I think they stopped selling gig tickets as well - I can't imagine there was much demand for that with Tickets Scotland about 4 doors along.
― Hypnagogic Poop (onimo), Thursday, 30 July 2009 11:10 (sixteen years ago)
Missing sounds like my kind of shop. However I've just been looking at guitar shops online and there's a couple that I really ought to go to. So dunno if I'll get time for recd shops - we'll see.
