I'm a subscriber, but the opinion pieces in The Economist are so relentlessly cringey that it's demoralizing. It's a magazine that I am literally afraid to open every week.

The best kind of humor is that which is focused on explaining at length to the unappreciative portion of the audience why they're wrong. It's a surefire recipe for laughs.

Doesn't Orange is the New Black have a major trans character played by Laverne Cox? I mean, fuck Netflix over all this, but she made a big impression, and her character was treated pretty sympathetically, iirc.

Yeah, Netflix basically gave Cox her career, but she's the only example I can think of.

I was trying to avoid Caitlin in my equation because I thought we were talking about fictional characters and/or stand-up comedians? Of course, KUWTK is as fictional as it gets and airs on Hulu rather than Netflix so it's not much of a difference.

I don't think Eddie is anywhere close to Dave's level in the US, although she does have some pretty good film/tv credits (usually male presenting).

Can anyone recommend any good writing on the current Chappelle kerfuffle? I'm looking for something to assign for my students to read next term.
