12) They are a robot

Matt DC, Monday, 19 May 2008 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

lol

gabbneb, Monday, 19 May 2008 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

haha. bots have clearly come of age.

mr x, Monday, 19 May 2008 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

i like how the first poster apologizes for being a lonely, lonely man. more people should do that.

sunny successor, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:06 (eighteen years ago)

I might have to finally try this soon, my recent relationship fuck-up has left me a tad dispirited about real life women with whom you may share friends and stomping grounds. It's worked out pretty well for several of my mates.

chap, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:14 (eighteen years ago)

All my friends who are married have met through the internet! And they are v. happy couples who are full of the <3. Your grandma will judge you, though (well mine would, but she's pretty much made that her post in life).

Abbott, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:17 (eighteen years ago)

i think i'm too cynical to do this.

Jordan, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:30 (eighteen years ago)

a friend of mine is doing this right now and going on dates and having a good time, she's like 'who knew dating was so easy!' - i think she's gone on a couple second dates but seems to be into it for the dating rather than nec as a search for a relationship or anything. which i guess is the healthy way to go about it. not sure that i get the dating-as-entertainment thing though.

i asked her if i should try it and she laughed and told me she was on a date with someone sort of tedious/self-absorbed the other night and thought 'what wld robyn do in this situation' and apparently what i would do is say 'yeah i gotta go' pretty early on. which is pretty much truth. i wonder what i have become.

rrrobyn, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:52 (eighteen years ago)

im trying this out at the moment.

titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:53 (eighteen years ago)

gabb's 9 + 11 (never forget) are otm. And if they didn't have a hot pic you woulda given up on them awhile back.

bnw, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:56 (eighteen years ago)

this can be fun and useful but never never allow yourself to get very attached to anyone you only know through email. The going AWOL without notice thing is a pretty common MO even if you really think you are hitting it off. Like 90% of those people were recently dumped and still obsessed with their ex!

ryan, Monday, 19 May 2008 20:08 (eighteen years ago)

ryan OTM. i have already noticed this.

titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 19 May 2008 21:19 (eighteen years ago)

i wonder if father mckenzie at the top of the thread ever found his eleanor rigby

get bent, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 02:30 (eighteen years ago)

All (three) of my married friend couples met over the internet.

Wow I can't even think of who the third couple is. !!!

Abbott, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

That it should come to this. What sites in the UK should, uh, my friend be using other than the Guardian one.

caek, Sunday, 15 June 2008 00:28 (eighteen years ago)

there are guardian dating forums? i thought they were just the comments boxes after ruth fowler's blog articles

zinged! yes, guardian soulmates seems to be full of angry people who will not date you if you think george bush is "a good bloke" and "are not open-minded".

banriquit, Sunday, 15 June 2008 20:08 (eighteen years ago)

caek I know you are a scientist so perhaps you might have better luck with carbon dating instead.

libcrypt, Sunday, 15 June 2008 21:23 (eighteen years ago)

^^^ internet dating strapline in the making. 'i'm more used to CARBON dating...'

banriquit, Sunday, 15 June 2008 21:27 (eighteen years ago)

I'm married to a woman I met on the internets. Also, Nerve.com is really quite useful if you just want to get laid a lot with people you never talk to again.

I feel like in the area I live in now, there are probably tons of interesting & satisfactorily nerdy guys to be found on the internet, but I can't bring myself to join a site because OMG THE JUDGMENT.

Maria, Monday, 10 November 2008 01:28 (seventeen years ago)

maria, don't let that stop you, because in the end when you finally meet some awesome dude it will be u who has teh last laugh.

i met my bf online (not a dating site) and tons of ppl were judgmental and weirded out by the whole concept. we have known each other more than 18mo and been v v v happily living together for 4.

& as a sidenote: my friend who was most weirded out by internet relationships - her bf moved to malaysia and their relationship crumbled; doing the LDR made them realise they had no communication skills and the distance magnified all their problems.

undiscovered cuntry (Rubyredd), Monday, 10 November 2008 02:37 (seventeen years ago)

so what are these dating sites you speak of..
I tried a few but none of them are satisfactory.
Right now I'm using OkCupid and Plentyoffish but I only email a few people (I'm so judgmental) and then there is only so many users in my area.
Maybe I can try nerve.com if it isn't a british thing.

❤ⓛⓞⓥⓔ❤ (CaptainLorax), Monday, 10 November 2008 03:07 (seventeen years ago)

I would never pay for a dating site like eharmony or adultfriendfinder etc.

❤ⓛⓞⓥⓔ❤ (CaptainLorax), Monday, 10 November 2008 03:08 (seventeen years ago)

what is plentyoffish?

;n_n; (tehresa), Monday, 10 November 2008 03:11 (seventeen years ago)

one of the free ones :)

❤ⓛⓞⓥⓔ❤ (CaptainLorax), Monday, 10 November 2008 03:13 (seventeen years ago)

adultfriendfinder

^^^not a "dating" site by traditional definition.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 10 November 2008 03:13 (seventeen years ago)

lol

;n_n; (tehresa), Monday, 10 November 2008 03:14 (seventeen years ago)

so did we decide that there isn't anymore dating sites to try?

❤ⓛⓞⓥⓔ❤ (CaptainLorax), Monday, 10 November 2008 21:50 (seventeen years ago)

that nerve.com thing is crap, you can join it but you have to pay to upgrade and have email capabilities. not many users either

❤ⓛⓞⓥⓔ❤ (CaptainLorax), Monday, 10 November 2008 21:55 (seventeen years ago)

an ex of mine later used salon personals, found a dude, they got married, have a six-month-old kid, all is grebt

I Want to Change the Way The Site Looks... (libcrypt), Monday, 10 November 2008 22:01 (seventeen years ago)

everyone needs to check out the new york review of books personals pronto.
http://www.nybooks.com/classifieds/personals

BEAUTIFUL-LOOKING, smart, and sexy (and that’s not just my family talking). NYC woman, full of great compassion, empathy, and sly wit. Fun and funny, can be counted on for good times, good company. Athletic lean body, lively zest for life. Easy to talk to, easily amused, creative. City person but adores the Berkshires. Spunky, good joke-teller. Lover of words, animals, books, beauty, Chinese food in Chinatown, al dente pasta, sharp cheeses, documentary films, yoga, hardware stores, Scrabble. Wants to travel the world, unwind at home, cuddle up and watch good movies, share cultural things, music, Sunday crossword and simple pleasures with articulate, attractive, active, in-shape, financially sophisticated, liberal-thinking man, 52–68

lots of good finds there imo.

ian, Monday, 10 November 2008 22:05 (seventeen years ago)

"financially sophisticated"
