Good work on that one, wasn't sure if it would go off one pic!

Sladoled Umbrella (cherry blossom), Wednesday, 13 October 2021 18:07 (four years ago)

where did the original pic come from, not google maps then?

StanM, Wednesday, 13 October 2021 19:05 (four years ago)

Original pic was from google maps but doesn't seem to be there now, or at least I can't find it

I think you mentioned before that there was a photo that wasn't showing up on the map for you but you could still see it when it was a direct link?

Friday

Sladoled Umbrella (cherry blossom), Friday, 15 October 2021 12:32 (four years ago)

That just screams Pittsburgh to me for some reason.

And of course the worms! (Boring, Maryland), Friday, 15 October 2021 12:59 (four years ago)

Some castle type building with floodlights on the (garages? arched thing to the left) ? Quite a fancy street light, too - is it a whole Disney-inspired street/neighbourhood?

StanM, Friday, 15 October 2021 14:26 (four years ago)

that GMC limits this to North America where gas is cheaper, I would think

StanM, Friday, 15 October 2021 14:34 (four years ago)

... and there are a LOT more houses with turrets than you would think :(

StanM, Friday, 15 October 2021 14:37 (four years ago)

I think the thing on the left is a viaduct.

And of course the worms! (Boring, Maryland), Friday, 15 October 2021 15:55 (four years ago)

Could be any hilly US city.

o. nate, Friday, 15 October 2021 16:06 (four years ago)

Los Angeles has plenty of GMCs/other big trucks. People have money to burn here.

nickn, Friday, 15 October 2021 21:47 (four years ago)

i don't think those trees are southern california. west coast though?

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Friday, 15 October 2021 22:08 (four years ago)

looks like a white bus in the background

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Friday, 15 October 2021 22:09 (four years ago)

those kind of streetlamps (the ones that look like the ends of condoms) are uniquely american in my experience (as if the GMC truck wasn't enough)

π” π”žπ”’π”¨ (caek), Friday, 15 October 2021 22:09 (four years ago)

oooh, the thing I thought was a floodlight for the castle is the cabin of a bus/truck/tram/... - and between the trees there's another one.

Are those overhead cables for a trolley bus or tram?

StanM, Saturday, 16 October 2021 07:51 (four years ago)

IF (big if) it's a trolleybus, there's only five systems still in operation in the USA, according to wikipedia: San Francisco, Boston (two lines: Cambridge and South Boston/Waterfront), Dayton, Philadelphia and Seattle. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_trolleybus_systems_in_the_United_States )

StanM, Saturday, 16 October 2021 07:55 (four years ago)

if it's a tram then the list is a lot longer - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streetcars_in_North_America#System_lists

StanM, Saturday, 16 October 2021 08:08 (four years ago)

Looks like there is writing in washed out white on the top bit of the bridge. Looks like Geo.. Gooble. Clue or useless, I don’t know.

that's not my post, Saturday, 16 October 2021 13:38 (four years ago)

I still say it's Pittsburgh. They have a light rail (tram) system but I can't find out the color of the rolling stock.

And of course the worms! (Boring, Maryland), Saturday, 16 October 2021 16:24 (four years ago)

Isn't that just the Google watermark? xp

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Saturday, 16 October 2021 16:46 (four years ago)

indeed - I'm afraid that's the google watermark

StanM, Saturday, 16 October 2021 17:32 (four years ago)

Lol, then useless.

that's not my post, Saturday, 16 October 2021 18:42 (four years ago)

the bus is an MCI D series (4000 or 4500, maybe others too) which is operated by pittsburgh

micah, Saturday, 16 October 2021 20:29 (four years ago)

or at least operated in and around pittsburgh. the viaduct could be an elevated busway

micah, Saturday, 16 October 2021 21:26 (four years ago)

guys you can keep saying pittsburgh til you're blue in the face, if you want confirmation cherry blossom will need a minimum 6 figure grid reference

ignore the blue line (or something), Saturday, 16 October 2021 21:49 (four years ago)

Lol. And it may not even be Pittsburgh but one of the 100 or so grubby municipalities in Allegheny County. To which I would say: a borough is not a city!!!

Typo? Negative! (Boring, Maryland), Saturday, 16 October 2021 23:20 (four years ago)

Tell that to Titshire, the largest hamlet in Shroppingham, featured here in 2018

"Tell it to Titshire" - now there's a book/album title that should exist

Sladoled Umbrella (cherry blossom), Monday, 18 October 2021 12:51 (four years ago)

Is that Walgreens? (not that that would help much, they have like 9,000 stores in the US)

StanM, Monday, 18 October 2021 14:06 (four years ago)

Yes, Walgreens are everywhere in the US. It seems like maybe in this pic we're on the bridge/viaduct shown in the background of the first pic? Trying to work out whether that's train tracks in the far right hand side of this pic, which would possibly be passing under the bridge.

o. nate, Monday, 18 October 2021 15:56 (four years ago)

looks a lot like philadelphia tbh

I'm a sovereign jizz citizen (the table is the table), Monday, 18 October 2021 16:34 (four years ago)

I think I've looked at all the Walgreens in Philadelphia and nothing with a viaduct + a big house with turrets seems to be jumping out at me

StanM, Monday, 18 October 2021 17:31 (four years ago)

good on you, i've not that much attention span lol. what about pgh?

I'm a sovereign jizz citizen (the table is the table), Monday, 18 October 2021 18:34 (four years ago)

My wife just walked in and looked at the picture and told me it was in Union City. Actually Weehawken, I guess. Apparently we've driven past it multiple times, which I didn't recall.

o. nate, Tuesday, 19 October 2021 15:05 (four years ago)

I guess its near the ramp that we take to get on 495 heading west, but since I'm usually driving I've never noticed that library with the turrets before.

o. nate, Tuesday, 19 October 2021 15:08 (four years ago)

OH SHIT! I totally recognize that now, but it's been years and years since I was a passenger on that stretch.

I'm a sovereign jizz citizen (the table is the table), Tuesday, 19 October 2021 16:08 (four years ago)

holy crap! Well done mrs o. nate!

StanM, Tuesday, 19 October 2021 16:24 (four years ago)

I bet we would have gotten it a lot faster if this had been the angle

Yes, Weehawken Public Library, such a familiar view to anyone who's driven or got the bus out that way!

fancy library - building history is on their front page http://www.weehawken-nj.us/library.html

I daresay there are a million places in the UK that might look just like it but it strongly reminds me of oxford.
