Man! So close! I clicked the 3 other pictures in Djibouti city because I was looking for the harbour/port but didn't click the airport one.

StanM, Saturday, 2 October 2021 11:57 (four years ago)

Good work, and many assists on this one I think! I'm glad I didn't have to do second photo as it was very close by that point. I love how when you list out all the clues the answer is right there (felt the same about Novosibirsk too, I'd kind of already described it without realising)

No one mentioned the YouTube videos on the monitor screen, I was pretty curious on those

cherry blossom, Sunday, 3 October 2021 07:11 (four years ago)

the sunlight angle through the window will trouble me to the end of my days.

ledge, Sunday, 3 October 2021 10:12 (four years ago)

No other option than to go there yourself imho

StanM, Sunday, 3 October 2021 10:20 (four years ago)

have looked for African phone banking instruction videos but no dice

StanM, Sunday, 3 October 2021 10:22 (four years ago)

There seems to be a general consensus amongst visitors to Djibouti International Airport that it is the dirtiest international airport in the world. Or at least that the toilets are the dirtiest toilets in an international airport in the world.

ledge, Monday, 4 October 2021 19:35 (four years ago)

Not sure why but it feels like a coastal town

that was fast

StanM, Monday, 4 October 2021 21:47 (four years ago)

Is it a city?
I was looking all over Sunderland but sure we've had that already

kinder, Monday, 4 October 2021 21:58 (four years ago)

Ha, Seaham it is. Nice simple one with the gate and aldi combination

A bit more background on the burned out building

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 5 October 2021 00:52 (four years ago)

First one I've gotten, and it was indeed the gate and the Aldi that did it!

wmlynch, Tuesday, 5 October 2021 02:50 (four years ago)

I was going to crop it at just "The Lads" originally

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 5 October 2021 03:02 (four years ago)

I couldn't read the "Ha" but "Way the Lads" was enough.

wmlynch, Tuesday, 5 October 2021 03:11 (four years ago)

I can't even read that now I know what it is - you DO mean that graffiti on the right, right?

great work. the burnt building has indeed been demolished, as you can see on street view if you go down the road beside it ('back n terrace').

Guess the townlet

nashwan, Tuesday, 5 October 2021 09:25 (four years ago)

oooooh the fence

StanM, Tuesday, 5 October 2021 09:33 (four years ago)

You can make out DUKE below THE LADS. It's the back of the Duke of Seaham pub.

Midweek Madness II

cherry blossom, Wednesday, 6 October 2021 15:55 (four years ago)

An older city in the US.

And of course the worms! (Boring, Maryland), Wednesday, 6 October 2021 16:00 (four years ago)

Yeah, that fire escape (?) at the front of the building made me think US as well - some kind of French quarter or euro district type deal?
This building we're in has annoyingly little on the windows (post offices, banks, train stations would have all kinds of stuff on there I would expect)

StanM, Wednesday, 6 October 2021 16:08 (four years ago)

there's a map behind the open door near the camera but it isn't giving much away

StanM, Wednesday, 6 October 2021 16:10 (four years ago)

I'm curious about the 2nd trash receptacle that's further away from the camera. I guess maybe it's for recycling?

o. nate, Wednesday, 6 October 2021 16:45 (four years ago)

Yes, those are all over.

And of course the worms! (Boring, Maryland), Wednesday, 6 October 2021 17:05 (four years ago)

I wonder if playing with the contrast would bring out the text on the yellow vertical sign or the buildings across the plaza.

nickn, Wednesday, 6 October 2021 17:17 (four years ago)

not on my freeware image editor

StanM, Wednesday, 6 October 2021 17:18 (four years ago)

I guess maybe the vestibule between two sets of doors indicates a place with cold winters.

Findlay Market in Cincinnati OH

https://goo.gl/maps/MywMEo7zF9yHybn1A

I've actually been there, though I didn't recognize it.

o. nate, Wednesday, 6 October 2021 18:37 (four years ago)

Good one, thought these last two might go a little quicker after some tough ones. What was your route to it?

cherry blossom, Wednesday, 6 October 2021 19:37 (four years ago)

Zoomed in on the map and made out the street name "Race St". Tried a few cities with a Race Street. Got to Cincinnati and got lucky by clicking near Findlay Market right away, noticed the red crossbeam construction and then it was just a matter of clicking nearby until I found the spot.

o. nate, Wednesday, 6 October 2021 19:42 (four years ago)

I need a screen with more pixels, I can't even see Race St now you told me it's there

StanM, Wednesday, 6 October 2021 19:56 (four years ago)

Yeah I even tried to ENHANCE and was like "Mare St? Mace St? Dace St?"

ledge, Wednesday, 6 October 2021 20:04 (four years ago)

Perhaps it helped that I downloaded the full image and looked at it in a photo editor rather than in the browser.

o. nate, Wednesday, 6 October 2021 20:23 (four years ago)

So yes, an older US city that doesn't have much going for it!

I'm a sovereign jazz citizen (the table is the table), Wednesday, 6 October 2021 21:33 (four years ago)

i assumed it wasn't the US because there was somewhere to sit

cherry blossom, Friday, 8 October 2021 10:45 (four years ago)

A shitty resort.

And of course the worms! (Boring, Maryland), Friday, 8 October 2021 21:06 (four years ago)

Building top left doesn't look American to me so I think Europe, but obviously not Mediterranean. Woman with daughter looks vaguely East European or at least Middle European. Maybe somewhere on a lake? Or the Black Sea again, like Bulgaria or Romania?

Zelda Zonk, Friday, 8 October 2021 23:11 (four years ago)

blue and red water slides look pretty big, maybe a dedicated water park kind of thing?

StanM, Saturday, 9 October 2021 00:25 (four years ago)

Definitely a permanent park (all the umbrellas, and what looks like a concrete edge in the water area closest to the photographer). In fact, it doesn't look connected to a river or body of water at all because every pool edge I can see is concrete and I see vegetation beyond it.

nickn, Saturday, 9 October 2021 01:09 (four years ago)

No real clue where to start looking to be honest - hills, big white buildings in the distance, one of them with something on top maybe (observatory? dome?), a red/white antenna or chimney?
Building on the left looks vaguely Austrian/Swiss/Alpine/Southern Germany? Lady looks kinda Eastern European maybe? But this could just as easily be in South America.

And there are a lot more blue spiral water slides in the world than I thought :-)

StanM, Sunday, 10 October 2021 07:34 (four years ago)

is that a coke can on the towel in the foreground? Can't make out letters or logo but could be a clue, don't know?

StanM, Sunday, 10 October 2021 07:36 (four years ago)

I'm also thinking that fence is impossibly complicated & could have been much simpler to make but anyway

StanM, Sunday, 10 October 2021 07:43 (four years ago)

i'm kind of fascinated by the fence! never seen one quite like it with that mix of rigid palings and weldmesh.

the half hipped roof on the far left might be traceable architecture but i wouldnt know where to start.
