Bollocks, none of the players have covid, it's a physio. They were more worried about losing IPL money and don't want to play.
The game should be forfeited. But the ECB don't want to lose £30m either, so they want it rescheduled. But it's ruined a classic test series.
No way should India be allowed to win the series and the rescheduled test be a standalone test next year.

Spectators have lost money because of this. Nobody thinks of them. An absolute disgrace.

one month passes...

Wanindu Hasaranga
9/1
Sri Lanka Top Runscorer
England vs Sri Lanka

lol the bookies offered me a two quid free-bet on the 20/20 so I not very discerningly put it on this and it won!

calzino, Monday, 1 November 2021 20:53 (four years ago)

that is pretty discerning tbf

imago, Monday, 1 November 2021 20:55 (four years ago)

I only mainly looked at the odds, but sort of have a little awareness that he's a shit hot batsman playing very well in a side that keeps losing

calzino, Monday, 1 November 2021 20:58 (four years ago)

he's better at bowling than batting! but he is their best T20 cricketer by miles and miles so yeah it was a good call

imago, Monday, 1 November 2021 21:00 (four years ago)

lol that's probably wrong, see what I mean?

calzino, Monday, 1 November 2021 21:01 (four years ago)

that seems a generous 9/1 then

calzino, Monday, 1 November 2021 21:02 (four years ago)

anyone who bats at 6 or lower in the batting order in a T20 will be long odds to top score due to the statistical unlikelihood of it happening. SL have a hella flimsy top order tho, hence discerning

imago, Monday, 1 November 2021 21:04 (four years ago)

ah I see, mid-order batters will always be a bigger price.

calzino, Monday, 1 November 2021 21:05 (four years ago)

lol Cronje would have made a killing if the 20/20 game had happened in his era!

calzino, Monday, 1 November 2021 21:07 (four years ago)

I do wonder if ultra-subtle spot-fixing is easier now in T20...

imago, Monday, 1 November 2021 21:09 (four years ago)

You can take the boy out of Zimbabwe and Harrow School...

imago, Thursday, 4 November 2021 11:23 (four years ago)

(yes, glasshouses lol, but they wear boaters ffs)

imago, Thursday, 4 November 2021 11:23 (four years ago)

This is turning nastier and nastier

imago, Thursday, 4 November 2021 22:18 (four years ago)

You heard about Michael Vaughan?

Pfunkboy AKA (Oor Neechy), Thursday, 4 November 2021 22:23 (four years ago)

mmhm

imago, Thursday, 4 November 2021 22:24 (four years ago)

plenty of games ripe for micro spot fixing (New Zealand vs Namibia!) because who's gonna be watching besides the bookmakers??

Pre-Raphaelite Brah (King Boy Pato), Friday, 5 November 2021 10:22 (four years ago)

Who would ever have guessed Yorkshire cricket could be home to a bunch of racist troglodytes?

Des Weerelds Dool-om-berg ont-doold op Dool-in-bergh (Tom D.), Friday, 5 November 2021 10:28 (four years ago)

This is pretty comprehensive about the depressing state of English cricket, which has been getting less diverse and less representative for a long time now https://t.co/LGoJ4hJR10

Glad he pointed out that English cricket is now dominated by the privately educated - which is a trend in UK sport in general... UK life in general.

Des Weerelds Dool-om-berg ont-doold op Dool-in-bergh (Tom D.), Friday, 5 November 2021 10:43 (four years ago)

I can just imagine the exact type of beetroot faced indignant rage going down about this at my local Tory gammon cricket club tonight.

calzino, Friday, 5 November 2021 10:45 (four years ago)

Yeah it's in UK culture and arts as well xp

xyzzzz__, Friday, 5 November 2021 10:47 (four years ago)

Wasn't quite expecting Vaughan to be a racist, though I've never looked at it closely.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 5 November 2021 10:48 (four years ago)

surely it's not that much of a surprise - such strong Tory vibes and he was spiritually bald before his hair started dropping out!

calzino, Friday, 5 November 2021 10:54 (four years ago)

yeah he's long been a smug, reactionary shires Tory

Ah man.

imago, Tuesday, 16 November 2021 13:05 (four years ago)

Wonder how this is going to echo through the game from the top down to club level

imago, Tuesday, 16 November 2021 13:06 (four years ago)

A sad twist today. Hopefully this doesn't become a culture war wedge

imago, Thursday, 18 November 2021 19:00 (four years ago)

It’s not a twist, it’s the difference between institutional and personal racism.

suggest bainne (gyac), Thursday, 18 November 2021 19:17 (four years ago)

Also very suspicious how it ended up all over the newspapers today.

When Smeato Met Moaty (Tom D.), Thursday, 18 November 2021 19:19 (four years ago)

There were people out there listening to the testimony and scoffing at it, making the usual excuses “why did he go back”, etc. Anti-Muslim sentiment sells papers and there’s nothing the papers like better than “this person from an ethnic minority background is the real racist”.

fair. but yeah, you can see entirely how this will be used

imago, Thursday, 18 November 2021 19:31 (four years ago)

And you’re going along with it because…? You called it “a sad twist”.

suggest bainne (gyac), Thursday, 18 November 2021 19:35 (four years ago)

You’ll have to walk me through this. How is it a “sad twist”? Guy seems devastated in his statement, comments were pretty crass and ill judged but he owned and apologised for them. Which iirc is all he wanted from the club? So it’s a “twist” because some cunt paper went digging through old social media posts, and it’s “sad” because he has at some point in his own life been racist, which means presumably he’s a less sympathetic victim? Is that it?

suggest bainne (gyac), Thursday, 18 November 2021 19:39 (four years ago)

it's a sad twist because of how those with an anti-Muslim sentiment will frame it, hence 'I hope it doesn't become a culture war wedge'; the reactionaries are already amassing to dismiss him and his (obviously valid) testimony

imago, Thursday, 18 November 2021 19:48 (four years ago)

Yes, by all means let’s sink to their level.

suggest bainne (gyac), Thursday, 18 November 2021 19:52 (four years ago)

i didn't for a second suggest doing so

imago, Thursday, 18 November 2021 19:54 (four years ago)

It's all culture war all the time.

It should also be ignored so as not to lose sight of what's at stake.

You need brain cells for this, is the thing.

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 18 November 2021 20:45 (four years ago)

Asking a Canadian benzedrine addict to talk about cricket. Good work, BBC.

When Smeato Met Moaty (Tom D.), Friday, 19 November 2021 09:03 (four years ago)

gosh imagine if you were one of these journalists that was stanning for him as a leading public intellectual a few years back. He's thick as pigshit.

calzino, Friday, 19 November 2021 09:04 (four years ago)

almost as much fun as when they had that other Canadian prick, Malcolm Gladwell, telling us what is wrong with the NHS.

calzino, Friday, 19 November 2021 09:21 (four years ago)

"nothing can prepare you for Peterson on Rafiq"

Log on to ilx and watch LJ talk about culture war. It isn't that far off Peterson's "oh no pitting group against group isn't going to help destroy the racism".

Alex Hale: "It wasn't racist when I blackfaced up because it was a tribute to my black hero, Tupac"

Lol, I was nodding along with everyone else on the panel. Man’s a ranting mess.

He's a drug addict who was in a coma for months so, yes, he's a perfect choice for BBC's flagship political debate show.
