Just as I suspected, cherry blossom has done that thing were guessing the city on the guess the city thread isn't enough
But I was right three days ago and have finally found the spot in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

I was going to mention that the big palm on the left is a Canary Island date palm, but those are commonly grown elsewhere too (I have one in my back yard).
― nickn, Thursday, 9 September 2021 21:24 (four years ago)
nice one! I gave up too soon with Santa Cruz.
― StanM, Thursday, 9 September 2021 21:27 (four years ago)
Santa Cruz!
The original streetviews are just to the South of this one, same road
― cherry blossom, Friday, 10 September 2021 02:50 (four years ago)
thread title is "Guess the City", not "provide coordinates of this photograph" or "give complete supporting evidence for identifying the city" ...
― assert (matttkkkk), Friday, 10 September 2021 03:06 (four years ago)
it's more fun this way imho
― StanM, Friday, 10 September 2021 05:44 (four years ago)
This way does sort of reduce it to either knowing it at first glance or leaving it to those with the time/tenacity to trawl through Google Maps. Still a great thread, either way.
― Vanishing Point (Chinaski), Friday, 10 September 2021 07:33 (four years ago)
Yeah finding the actual spot is where the fun is
― a (waterface), Friday, 10 September 2021 12:21 (four years ago)
It's cherry blossom's thread so i'm fine to play by their rules but we should probably establish that just guessing the city doesn't cut it anymore or we get incidents where people assume a city has been ruled out because it was guessed and unacknowledged

So that first wall was this: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Asociaci%C3%B3n+Familiar+Pro+Discapacitados+Intelectuales+de+Tenerife/@28.4628484,-16.256673,3a,75y,252.43h,101.03t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sy5TBBAe9pNJ2t_3eJu4D9A!2e0!7i16384!8i8192!4m5!3m4!1s0xc41cc8349ea8fbb:0xc3fdcea7689829e!8m2!3d28.4626662!4d-16.2570545
― StanM, Friday, 10 September 2021 13:42 (four years ago)
Still puzzled by the purpose of that wall
― Zelda Zonk, Friday, 10 September 2021 13:46 (four years ago)
I kind of like having the guess be supported by some kind of visual evidence. Makes it more challenging that way and also makes sure the thread doesn't devolve into people just throwing out names of a bunch of random cities (not that this has happened).

I think it might be a Uniqlo now.

damn, just found it myself!

The anglicism 'Sale' replaced the German words 'Sommerschlussverkauf' and 'Winterschlussverkauf' a while ago, much to the relief of German sign-writers.
I recognised the store logo, but was beaten to the punch on Düsseldorf.
The premises in Schadowstraße is now an opticians, I think: https://ergra-low-vision.de/

I still think it's China. In most countries a river that size would allow you to narrow it down to coastal cities, but not China. Doesn't look muddy enough to be the Yellow River or the Yangtze at least
― ignore the blue line (or something), Thursday, 16 September 2021 14:11 (four years ago)
is the ultra modern looking thing on the left a stadium or a train station?+ these very colorful buildings in the front, a circus tent - amusement park maybe?
― StanM, Thursday, 16 September 2021 15:00 (four years ago)
Architecture in the foreground doesn't look Chinese to me. Unless maybe it is a college campus deliberately designed to look Western or something.
― o. nate, Thursday, 16 September 2021 18:36 (four years ago)
The groupings of distant buildings remind me strikingly of South Korea

I was going to say, looks a bit like one of those previous photos that turned out to be in the Ukraine or Russia.
― o. nate, Thursday, 16 September 2021 19:31 (four years ago)
Looks more like Kiev tbh, the island in the middle matches up with maps in a certain way.

Well done. Was hoping to get some idea of what all those russian style buildings are, they're not identified in google maps itself but I found a user review: Located in the Sun Island Scenic Area, Russian-style Town is a Russian-themed tourist spot and sightseeing area. The town retains a few dozen Russian-style villas and private residences. You can walk into these buildings for a visit.
The space age building on the far left, however, is completely unmarked.
― ledge, Friday, 17 September 2021 09:37 (four years ago)
The space age building is Harbin Grand Theatre
