Guess the City

I was wondering about Melilla or Ceuta, but again can't find an exact counterpart for the mountainous background

With French cars could it be Algeria?

I have no idea really but that sky is certainly (west?) African in its depth and intensity.

It isn't Oran or Constantine, the streetlights are different.

These car plates look European to me

The huge mountain at the end of a flat urban road is quite distinctive, I looked at a few places in Italy near mountains but they all had extensive foothills where the roads petered out into farm tracks & vineyards.

I feel like if I could just read what's on the green billboard in the last picture everything would be revealed

Just as I suspected, cherry blossom has done that thing were guessing the city on the guess the city thread isn't enough

But I was right three days ago and have finally found the spot in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

I was going to mention that the big palm on the left is a Canary Island date palm, but those are commonly grown elsewhere too (I have one in my back yard).

This way does sort of reduce it to either knowing it at first glance or leaving it to those with the time/tenacity to trawl through Google Maps. Still a great thread, either way.

Yeah finding the actual spot is where the fun is

It's cherry blossom's thread so i'm fine to play by their rules but we should probably establish that just guessing the city doesn't cut it anymore or we get incidents where people assume a city has been ruled out because it was guessed and unacknowledged

I kind of like having the guess be supported by some kind of visual evidence. Makes it more challenging that way and also makes sure the thread doesn't devolve into people just throwing out names of a bunch of random cities (not that this has happened).

I recognised the store logo, but was beaten to the punch on Düsseldorf.

I still think it's China. In most countries a river that size would allow you to narrow it down to coastal cities, but not China. Doesn't look muddy enough to be the Yellow River or the Yangtze at least

Architecture in the foreground doesn't look Chinese to me. Unless maybe it is a college campus deliberately designed to look Western or something.
