A few weeks ago now, but crime writer Mo Hayder, aka Candy Davis, aka Clare Bastin, passed away aged 59. Prompted by seeing her cavorting with Ade Edmondson and Daniel Peacock in Comic Strip’s 1983 misfire Five Go Mad On Mescalin, screened last night on niche Freeview channel London Live.

Michael Jones, Thursday, 26 August 2021 08:29 (four years ago)

Her life before crime novels was catnip for some of the newspaper obituaries I saw.

Dave Harper, drummer in Sunderland band Frankie & The Heartstrings

We are desperately sad to announce that our dearest friend and drummer Dave Harper passed away in hospital last night. Where do we even start to describe what kind of person he was and what he meant to so many. This legend was unforgettable and we’re heartbroken over this loss pic.twitter.com/7gB7BwSqMD

Also RIP Lee Perry, caught him here in Austin nearly 20 years ago, wild show, only concert I've been to where the performer smoked massive joints, one after another, the entire show.

Blues pianist Carol Fran, Covid-related, but she did live to 87. I was able to see her perform a number of times over the past few decades, always a treat.
