I'm seeing some people suggesting Sharon Graham might be winning the vote count for next Unite gen-sec. I don't know much about any of the candidates other than Coyne is an evil Murdoch plant and hah hah fuck him if he loses.

calzino, Tuesday, 24 August 2021 16:09 (four years ago)

they are taking a position where the tories could totally outflank them by offering some completely inadequate/derisory £3 a week rise or something, then Kieth can come with a £3.25 pledge. This is how opposition works now.

just as likely that labour will stake out a brave stance of a £3.25 uplift and boris will one-up them with £4 and labour will look like absolute fucking chumps yet again just like the nhs pay rise fiasco

you are like a scampicane, there's calm in your fries (bizarro gazzara), Tuesday, 24 August 2021 16:22 (four years ago)

lol apparently Coyne has finished in third place in Unite gen-sec election.

Kieth Starmer, Luke Akehurst, John Rentoul... your boy took one hell of a beating. It's actually quite sad so many members voted for this Murdoch lapdog tbh

If there’s one thing the Labour right have got going for them, it’s that they’re good at winning elections.

I was speaking to my brother last week, who hated Corbyn so much he started voting SNP, and he thinks Starmer is a complete disaster too.

It's win-win tbf, MPs across the parties are complicit and will keep their heads down, FBPE types just want to smugly pat themselves on the back for being "right" and ignore all the variations of Brexit that could've prevented this that they helped to stymie

It's a great British compromise

hey lets photoshop some "YOU DID THIS YOU THICK BASTARDS" signs onto a pic of empty supermarket shelves and get 63k RTs and not reflect for one second on how destroying Corbynism was always more important than preventing a hard-right gov and hard brexit.

xyzzzz__, Thursday, 26 August 2021 11:00 (four years ago)

well it surely can't be a result of Kieth touring the provinces to absolute indifference. Maybe in future just make him as invisible as Ed Davey and then perhaps occasionally come out with the odd pro animal extermination statement.

calzino, Thursday, 26 August 2021 11:18 (four years ago)

He should be demanding that all of Pen Farthing's dogs and cats are incinerated alive at next PMQs, then ten points ahead!

Don't know if anybody wins if the situation deteriorates further (I've only seen the odd empty shelf btw)

This was an excellent piece on the whole thing where it's a combo of Covid, Brexit but ultimately the wreck that is the Labour market.

"The story of Britain’s empty shelves, like that of its unpicked strawberries and unprocessed chickens, is the story of how migration combined with a weakly regulated labour market and hugely powerful retailers have allowed some goods and services to become unsustainably cheap. The system shaved money off our shopping bills but it wasn’t resilient. Remain voters are right to say Brexit helped to cause the current crisis, but wrong to say everything was fine without it. Brexit voters are right to say migration helped suppress driver pay, but as the Netherlands shows, Brexit wasn’t the only way to resolve it."

As always, ⁦@sarahoconnor_@FT a must-read https://t.co/HLRc0r16Pe

The Kabul airport is the most tightly controlled taliban area in Afghanistan. If Isis can operate there as appears they have, recognise this situation isn’t as simple as Twitter has taught you…the head of security for the taliban has strong links to Isis-K for starters … https://t.co/724mtlreNR

— stellacreasy (@stellacreasy) August 26, 2021

yeah even though the Taliban and ISIS are mortal enemies who have been at war with each for years, Stella is doubling down on the conspiracy theory bs.

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 27 August 2021 18:02 (four years ago)

if it isn't focus grouped and Kieth really is like the average divvy in the pub man, albeit one who can forensically look at law documents with his laser barrister eye. Maybe they should have tried to push this side of his persona a bit harder, lol. I'd suggest adding the main John Gielgud biography and summat by Malcom Gluck and a big A4 folder that has "The Euston Manifesto" printed down its spine to add some *brains* to the SAS brawn!

calzino, Friday, 27 August 2021 20:31 (four years ago)

There is a main stage slot called 'Labour In Power', which is a nod to *that* @SadiqKhan conference speech, in which the London Mayor used the word power 38 times

and Kieth has blocked Burnham from having a speech at the upcoming conference in case he looks comparatively more leaderly than him.

calzino, Saturday, 28 August 2021 13:51 (four years ago)

by that logic surely block everybody

Big hearted Britain.

The Andrew Neil piece is typical of the sort of scare pieces and hatchet jobs the Telegraph has been running on the SNP for a while now - I know his is in the Mail but bear with me. In my work, the only news websites we have access to are, for some reason, the Telegraph and CNN International, so I've been reading the Telegraph a lot and they are absolutely obsessed with Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP and the break up of the Union. The obvious reason being that the London media is stuffed full of hideous right wing Scottish Unionist cunts like Neil and Fraser Nelson and Iain Martin and so on and so on.

Brexit apparently caused a great deal of chaos with the mail over here. I had a cd waiting in limbo for almost a month despite it actually having come from germany. Trying to make sure it got delivered I got told that this was pretty widespread and a lot of people had been contacting the An post customer service people to complain about things not appearing when they should have done.

Stevolende, Sunday, 29 August 2021 11:34 (four years ago)

Well well… look at what we have here: @Keir_Starmer posing with @socialist_app and @IanBFAWU. Following Starmer’s reasoning, he too should be auto-excluded. My solution? Exclude Starmer and keep Socialist Appeal and Ian Hodson in the party. pic.twitter.com/UpQSqrwjQS

What’s an extra £1.09 an hour really worth?

If you work 35 hours a week it’s another £38.

Which means more food on the table, new school shoes for the kids, or being able to pay that electricity bill. pic.twitter.com/oEtgYecuF4

Labour's use of social media is really killing it, nice mix of condescension with an offer of slightly improved poverty wages.. so inspiring!
