and the follow-up, confirming things
I had a small heart attack. But I'm going to be ok thanks to Rosa Estrada and the doctors who knew how to fix the blockage without surgery. Also, AMC and SONYs support and help throughout this has been next-level. I'm going to take a beat to recover but I'll be back soon.— Mr. Bob Odenkirk (@mrbobodenkirk) July 30, 2021

I have a zero-percent chance expectation they’ll close this series with Neil Young’s “Albuquerque” for varying reasons but if they did…

episode 5.7
i'm starting to get bad feelings about all this because we know there's only one more series after this, 13 more episodes, and kim doesn't show up in Breaking Bad. it's going to be the german engineer all over again.
(series 5 seems a bit down on 4. i mostly liked idea of the warehouse with chalets inside it.)

BCS isnt quite as brutal as BB was so I think Kim will probably survive but will be in a position where she's not really in his life anymore. or at least to the point where she wouldn't be relevant to the events of Breaking Bad
I'm curious how much of S5 is gonna focus on Saul as Gene the pretzel guy. all those black and white season opening scenes have gotta be leading to something big. for me the big question is if Jimmy & Kimmy meet up in the "afterlife" somehow
gonna be weird for those who decide to watch this all "in order" and encounter Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad looking 12 years younger than he was in the prequel
― frogbs, Monday, 22 November 2021 20:18 (two years ago) link
that kind of suspension of disbelief is essential for any "prequel." what about the flashback scenes to chicago when jimmy was in "his 20s" or whatever lol
― grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Monday, 22 November 2021 20:21 (two years ago) link
its a big pet peeve of mine, not only because the make-up and hair look so unnatural when they do this but also because the voice isn't right. especially with Bob Odenkirk who sounds a lot more gravelly these days. I'm sure there are 2000 posts about this but it distracted me a lot in The Irishman because even though "young" DeNiro looked somewhat real he moved and talked like an 80 year old man. it was real uncanny valley shit. I bet you could find a lot of great actors willing to do a young Bob Odenkirk.
― frogbs, Monday, 22 November 2021 20:40 (two years ago) link
since this is the Breaking Bad universe I'll also say it was unsettling when they did this in Malcolm in the Middle, where they'd flash back to Hal & Lois as newlyweds and they'd just put wigs, goofy clothes, and 5 points of makeup on them. conversely the one episode they did where they flashed back to Lois in high school where they actually cast a young woman was really cool and obviously way more believable
― frogbs, Monday, 22 November 2021 20:42 (two years ago) link
i think CGI technology has done wonders for this kind of stuff these days

they also did that in breaking bad a few times–cranston shaved, used his real full head of hair and called it a day

#BetterCallSaul returns for its final season. Mark your calendar. pic.twitter.com/xX7Rsb3qmK— Better Call Saul (@BetterCallSaul) February 7, 2022
Mark your calendars... but not date given. Speculation is that the 'D' and 'R' evidence tags means April 18th (4/18).

It has been, long enough that it just hit me that we currently don't have a way to stream AMC shows. Since Season 5 ended, we got rid of Sling. Guess we're gonna have to pony up for AMC+ before April.

― frogbs, Tuesday, 8 February 2022 00:37 (two years ago) link
I am excited but they're doing that thing again where they split the final season into two parts. So we're probably getting like 6 or 7 episodes upfront, then another wait...

My hope: Pt. 1 wraps up the pre-BB years and Pt. 2 deals with Gene in Omaha.
― Everybody Loves Ramen (WmC), Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:10 (two years ago) link
that makes a lot of sense from a structure standpoint. we haven't seen any of the other characters in omaha ... would be sad if all they all go away in the arizona component
― that's not my post, Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:19 (two years ago) link
could also be some stuff concurrent with BB, particularly what happened with Kim while all that was taking place
as much as I like the idea of doing a half-season in Omaha (and iirc they've revealed that he got recognized in the last season so there's obviously something there) you're kind of abandoning nearly your entire cast in doing that
I thought in BB Gus mentions something about wiping out the last of the Salamancas which imples that Lalo dies at some point. Or maybe he survives and Gus just thinks he's dead. idk. I was not expecting them to end the last season the way they did
― frogbs, Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:30 (two years ago) link
Yeah lalo is dead by bb season 4 guaranteed iirc the thing with the taxi driver recognising gene was he was about to go to Robert Forster again but at the last second got a steely look & was like “forget it, I’ll deal with it myself”
― chang.eng partition (wins), Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:38 (two years ago) link
ok yeah I'm trying to remember this I thought they implied the driver was from Albuquerque and recognized him because he was on TV all the time. I guess it's not really clear if people from there might've known that he was connected to the thing that was going on with Walter White at the end of BB
― frogbs, Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:43 (two years ago) link
Yeah he had some kind of New Mexico themed air freshener or something in the car, which was the cliffhanger reveal like 2 seasons ago I think lol
― chang.eng partition (wins), Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:47 (two years ago) link
Right I guess the question is if it’s someone specifically looking for him who hung that up to let him know the jig is up or if it’s just some coincidence, but that Saul is a known fugitive
― frogbs, Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:49 (two years ago) link
If you recall in the last season the guy was like “hey you’re that guy!” & then showed up at the mall next day - I think (although it’s fuzzy) it was heavily implied he was putting on some kind of squeeze but kept just this side of ambiguous
― chang.eng partition (wins), Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:53 (two years ago) link
Man I need to rewatch this seriesI would love a lot of gene stuff. The most interesting things in the other stories imo are Kim breaking bad, nacho & lalo but I love the milieu so much, give me more howard, give me fring and hector, give me all the Mike
― chang.eng partition (wins), Thursday, 10 February 2022 17:58 (two years ago) link
lol I forgot it was in New Mexico not Arizona. Too long between seasons.
― that's not my post, Thursday, 10 February 2022 20:17 (two years ago) link
I don't know what I'm hoping for specifically, but, as I've mentioned in other contexts, I like the a-ha moment that many people don't. There's no mystery proper here (like in Zodiac, for instance), so I don't know if that's possible, but some moment where the Saul you meet in Breaking Bad makes perfect sense--which means, among other things, the Saul that never so much as alludes to Kim.
― clemenza, Thursday, 10 February 2022 22:42 (two years ago) link
This was a good a-ha moment--this is what I mean.
