So naive.

I think it was a fairly difficult decision as I don’t want a precedent to be set for socialist groupings within the party - but these groups are really not socialist

idk if she’s can even be described as ‘naive’ if she’s also recognising that there was no justification for proscribing Socialist Appeal but the panel went ahead and voted for it anyway,

was thinking yesterday about how all comedians are fucking melts, this is Stewart Lee's list of political heroes on his site from those heady days of 2019 when the decision for lots of comfortably well off FBPE type people seemingly was a stark choice between god knows what and anyone but that bloody Crobyn!

MoMsnet (calzino), Wednesday, 21 July 2021 22:57 (four years ago)

finding out Lee's a Babs stan has completely finished him off for me. That's even worse than Morecambe + Wise admitting that Hitler was quite a sensible chap really.

MoMsnet (calzino), Wednesday, 21 July 2021 23:04 (four years ago)

I don’t care how much noise he listens to he’s fucking basic

Left, Wednesday, 21 July 2021 23:08 (four years ago)

Stewart Lee really wrote that??

I am surprised.

It's not a parody?

lol googling reveals there's a cookd and bombd thread full of ppl distraught by that list, didn't think that forum would be left enough to understand the evils of Philips, Led By Donkeys et al.

Another useless detail I learned about the world of comedy wankers is that Giles Coren is David Mitchell's brother-in-law!

MoMsnet (calzino), Thursday, 22 July 2021 08:40 (four years ago)

Yes, and Laurence Fox is Richard Ayoade's brother in law.

Daniel_Rf, Thursday, 22 July 2021 08:44 (four years ago)

my challops which will probably be not at all a challops on here is that Victoria Coren-Mitchell isn't funny or interesting, just sort of smug and pedantic

"Distraught" is a massive exaggeration. The main reactions seemed to be either "FFS, Stew" or "Probably just part of a show he's doing or something."

Apart from a few obvious trolls, C&B has never been a right-leaning forum so fuck knows why you'd think otherwise.

"Spaghetti" Thompson (Pheeel), Thursday, 22 July 2021 08:56 (four years ago)

xp

I honestly don't even know who she is. Is she a star of R4 comedy or something?

MoMsnet (calzino), Thursday, 22 July 2021 08:57 (four years ago)

She is Alan Coren's daughter / Giles Coren's sister / David Mitchell's wife, she has a very popular gameshow on TV and appears on lots of other things like panel shows, people seem to like her for some reason

A viking of frowns, (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 22 July 2021 09:00 (four years ago)

She seems to have fans on here but I don't see it myself. Their father was probably the smuggest man who ever lived.

I did not expect it to lean right wing but I did expect it to lean melt because, as stated before by calz, that's what 90% of UK comedians are.

The whole Coren son being a massive cunt does hide from his dad being part of this broadsheet vermin class this country was full of before the internet's attempts to kill newspapers.

Here is the wiki entry on his books:

"Coren published about twenty books during his life, many of which were collections of his newspaper columns,[1] such as Golfing for Cats and The Cricklewood Diet.

From 1976 to 1983 he wrote the Arthur series of children's books.[1]

One of his most successful books, The Collected Bulletins of Idi Amin (a collection of his Punch articles about Amin) was rejected for publication in the United States on the grounds of racial sensitivity.[1][5] These Bulletins were later made into a comedy album, The Collected Broadcasts of Idi Amin with the actor John Bird. After the Tanzanian capture of Kampala in 1979 the American journalist Art Barrett discovered a copy of Coren's book on Idi Amin's bedside table.[10]

Coren's other books include The Dog It Was That Died (1965), The Sanity Inspector (1974), All Except The Bastard (1978), The Lady from Stalingrad Mansions (1978), Rhinestone as Big as the Ritz (1979), Tissues for Men (1981), Bumf (1984), Seems Like Old Times: a Year in the Life of Alan Coren (1989), More Like Old Times (1990), A Year in Cricklewood (1991), Toujours Cricklewood? (1993), Alan Coren's Sunday Best (1993), A Bit on the Side (1995), Alan Coren Omnibus (1996), The Cricklewood Dome (1998), The Cricklewood Tapestry (2002) and Waiting for Jeffrey (2002).[1][6][7] Coren's final book, 69 For One, was published late in 2007.[1]"

Only Connect sounds like the type of tv show where it would have to be like the aversion therapy scene in Clockwork Orange for me to watch it!

MoMsnet (calzino), Thursday, 22 July 2021 09:12 (four years ago)

Remember thumbing thru one of his books in a charity shop once, looked shite & it had a foreword from one or both of the kids explaining that all the racism was fine actually - fuck all of them tbh

Woolf & Stein 3d (wins), Thursday, 22 July 2021 09:12 (four years ago)

I was on Only Connect, as was erstwhile ilxor ailsa iirc. Victoria C was perfectly charming and likeable irl, obv her brother is a cunt and her husband is a different kind of cunt. I'm also on record as finding Alan Coren's punch stuff deeply hilarious when I was about 12, idk I was a strange kid. OC is a good quiz in parts but doesn't do much for me as a TV show nowadays tbh

koogs, Thursday, 22 July 2021 09:21 (four years ago)

Celeb Gogglebox had a bunch of culture war cunts last time I saw two minutes of it. All TV panel shows make an excellent argument for the immediate destruction of western culture, obv

Southgate Serves Imperialism (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 22 July 2021 09:23 (four years ago)

Wow, I knew ailsa was on it, her being a massive quizzer and all, but I didn't know NV had been on it, wtf! I would have watched! btw ailsa still shows up on ILX occasionally to join in the lamentations over Celtic.

My OC appearance was a losing one but it was largely a fun day out

Southgate Serves Imperialism (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 22 July 2021 09:31 (four years ago)

The Idi Amin stuff was also performed by beloved satirist John Bird, in a horrible cod African accent I think, so thats him cancelled n all

glumdalclitch, Thursday, 22 July 2021 09:45 (four years ago)

(1)Labour's leadership, by calling for a measly 2.1% pay rise for nurses, instead of getting behind the Union claims, have not only embarrassed themselves, because the Tories agreed 3%. They have also made it harder for Nurses unions to fight for more - which is worse.

Solomon Hughes also pointing out that Kinnock backed the ambulance drivers strike in '90, yes even that lefty firebrand Neil fucking Kinnock was better than Kieth.

MoMsnet (calzino), Thursday, 22 July 2021 10:50 (four years ago)

Some of the original ILXors who were at Oxford at the same time as VC have legitimate beef with her - apparently she took over one of the student publications with a wave of Daddy’s Filofax and turfed out anyone lacking her sort of connections (including one or two of the ILXors).

it's nice to see while they are moaning about having to lay off loads of staff because Corbyn broke the party, yet they can still afford to bring back a racist prick. That sends out a clear message of what kind of party they are.
