funeral is one of my favs but not representative of the show generally

maybe skip to ep 5 the one with the hot dog and the johnny cash skit, which both feel like relatively accessible permutations of the show's thing

My enjoyment of this show is based on the sheer levels of absurdity reached by most of the skits. Especially when someone's boilerplate nicety ("I liked your gift", "did Christmas come early?") is challenged relentlessly.

I'll probably watch more, they aren't a lot of time to invest (def without my wife).

I didn't like baby of the year much either but there are some very good ones. The Johnny Cash one is probably the most I've laughed this year

tbh I didn't really like the first episode either. figured it wasn't my thing until I saw the show quoted a bunch on Twitter after which it very much became my thing

Something about Tim Robinson makes me start laughing almost immediately. Felt the same way about Chris Elliott back in his Letterman days. You know something good is coming.

one of the key mechanic of ITYSL and robinson's mind in general is

1 - establish norms of a setting amongst a group of people
2 - introduce person who is confused as to what is considered normal
3 - said person runs counter to the norm
4 - group initially reacts negatively
5 - rulebreaker becomes more insistent
6 - group shifts to rulebreaker's perspective and loop is closed

standard farce but he likes to dot it with severe sociopathic anxiety and a severely mannered lexicon that all the characters share

mannered dialogue is my favorite comedy move.

part of what made ghost tour work for me was robinson's breakdown at the end instead of the expected punchline of having the entire group start asking if the ghosts ever took huge mudpie dumps out of their donkey dicks

it's not denigrating the show to point out that it is, essentially, six jokes told and retold to varying degrees of hilarity + a number of longform shaggy dog semi-hits and misfires + out-of-nowhere absurdist dialogue/visual gags of the instagram sketch/coffin flops degree

maybe i've come to expect less of tv/netflix, but this isn't comedy genius that needs analyzing. it's a fun way to spend 20 minutes. if you were committing 2 hours or more to it, i would probably dig a bit more into it, though

12 episodes, roughly 15 minutes of content per episode = 3 hours

i think they're broken up like that for a reason, though
