if the english try something like this on the italians, they'll make sure to have a hand of god-style win. they don't exactly turn the other cheek.

You seem to be assuming that people in countries in the rest of Europe boo everyone else's anthems. Also English nationalism is toxic.

To answer the question as to whether its worse because its england, it becomes difficult to say because of all countries that one would maybe imagine england would wish to be considered as footballing peer to it is only england, and of the other countries that either do it or i may fancifully and unfairly imagine habitually do it its a fairly grim motley bunch that england really has no business imagining themselves in (as the crowd with the aggro chip fuck the world attitude doing the booing) or would i should think be bemused and defensive about being grouped in with (as in an england fan asking "is this really all that bad" would in my mind be very likely to have a similarly suprised but if im to be uncharitable equally clueless query as to why they were in a pariah group along with idk russia or serbia or whatever other countries do this

all told id be very wary of minimising this fairly new (?) further layer of aggravatory behaviour from a segment of a country with an aggravatory history towards most other countries on the planet as it ramps up its official tendencies in every other area of national activity to either accentuate celebration of that history or to minimise the negative effects of it

I'm getting irritated by this other narrative that's been building about how England and the people of England have been through so much this past year - which they have but it's presented as if the Italians (and everyone else on the planet) haven't. I'm just getting irritated full stop, I suppose.

Klinsmann mentioned how the Italians went through so much with covid at the end of their semi with Spain. And thought that this narrative hasn't really come up that often tbh.

The build-up has been v irritating, as per my posts above.

In the build up for one of the England games Gary Neville said not singing the anthem was one of his biggest regrets.

remember one world cup when zamarono was absolutely belting out the Chilean anthem and getting super emotional and my reaction was ahh that's great, then I had the thought that if that was an England player tearing up at gstq I would be repulsed. so yeah other nations belting out anthems has never bothered me so I guess it's stupid to throw shade at England players doing the same.

It helps if your anthem doesn't exclude aethiests and republicans though
