My completely unsupported assertion is that Kang is gonna be like the Thanos of this new MCU phase and, like Big T, will make some cameo appearances in the shadows or whatever before he's formally introduced.

It does make sense thematically that another Loki is pulling the TVA strings...but who is pulling his strings?!?!

I Scream For Ice Cream But Also Just All The Time And For No Reason (Old Lunch), Friday, 9 July 2021 13:49 (four years ago)

I wouldn't rule out a brief post-credits scene featuring that villain. I mean, let's not forget how Thanos was officially introduced, they can do it without minutes of exposition.

Re: Black Widow and the MCU going forward the post credits scene has Pugh's character being lined up to assassinate Hawkeye by Julia Louis-Dreyfus at Natasha's grave. So maybe she'll be in the Hawkeye series?

treefell, Friday, 9 July 2021 13:54 (four years ago)

_the whole show has been about loki exploring himself_

u must be watching the unrated DisneyMax version of the show

i mean the show is literally about loki really wanting to fuck himself tbf

This is MCU continuity, they could have the Big Bad here be another Loki and then have him rebrand himself as Other Villain to distance himself from the other variants if they wanted to

an eco-conscious Music Box (DJP), Friday, 9 July 2021 13:58 (four years ago)

that would be a fun twist

Goddamn it why did I click on that tag... be warned others that treefell's spoiler tags are about Black Widow and not Loki.

Not your fault treefell, just not paying attention to what your post was about.

a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 9 July 2021 14:02 (four years ago)

lol I actually do appreciate post-credit spoilers, or at least more than I appreciate being made to sit and watch the scroll of 1000 fx dudes for just 30 seconds bonus footage.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 9 July 2021 14:06 (four years ago)

And the character in the spoiler tags was of course introduced in Falcon & The Winter Soldier so Marvel appear to see all the pieces playing together.

Well *I* know who he is (aldo), Friday, 9 July 2021 14:10 (four years ago)

I like the theory that the Big Bad of Loki is ... another Loki.

i like this theory, provided that the ‘another loki’ is möbius. his exit was much too smooth imo

(i imagine there are many in-universe reasons of which i am unaware that this is impossible)

mookieproof, Friday, 9 July 2021 14:27 (four years ago)

appreciate any and all black widow spoilers because the movie seems extremely mid

the mai tai quinn (voodoo chili), Friday, 9 July 2021 14:48 (four years ago)

Caught Black Widow last night, I thought it was excellent. Definitely more of a spy story than a superhero story though there is a supersoldier involved. Stay for the end credits scene which sets up Hawkeye.

akm, Friday, 9 July 2021 15:17 (four years ago)

sorry, not a spy story, just an action film. but the action is great.

Also, serious Time Bandits vibes. Grant as Old Loki even looks a bit like David Warner:

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Saturday, 10 July 2021 02:14 (four years ago)

i watched BLACK WIDOW tonight

hated the first 45 minutes but then it turned into Marvel + Bond + Mission Impossible uber ridiculousness & i freaking loved it after that

its weird & pretty bananas

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 10 July 2021 07:01 (four years ago)

what was wrong with the first 45 minutes for you?

akm, Saturday, 10 July 2021 20:06 (four years ago)

well the fkn Nirvana cover for a start
i was irrationally annoyed that young Black Widow had blue hair.
I fkn hate “American Pie” too so it seemed the odds were piling up against melol

plus from the start there were SO many ridiculous set pieces one after the other that i thought maybe they were trying to distract from a weak story

and then it went cuckoo bananas & i got on board lol

terminators of endearment (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 10 July 2021 20:13 (four years ago)

thought this was alright.. but the space MCU stuff is exponentially better

The more I see Captain Marvel, the better I think it is.

Karl Havoc (DJP), Monday, 12 July 2021 14:25 (four years ago)

It's not the best Marvel movie (still a tossup between Black Panther, Thor: Ragnarok, and Cap 1) but it's very, very good at mapping out Carol's journey of self-discovery

Karl Havoc (DJP), Monday, 12 July 2021 14:28 (four years ago)

This was fine, would have been much worse without the charm that Pugh pulled through even with the accent.

a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 12 July 2021 14:30 (four years ago)

we rewatched Endgame before Black Widow because my husband couldn't remember exactly how she died - it was a bit weird how they went on and on about how Nat didn't have a family, but then Black Widow, which takes place earlier in the chronology, was all about family

Roz, Tuesday, 13 July 2021 02:02 (four years ago)

But Vin Diesel wasn't there!

Pugh is a remarkably charismatic actress, as she was in Fighting with My Family as well. (And I'm someone who hated Midsommar.)

I would put this above Captain Marvel but below the very best MCU films. Still pretty enjoyable, liked the family dynamic and general fuzzy feelings of the dialogue, despite how immensely dark the setting and general human trafficking theme actually was. Agree with Veg about hating the blue hair on '95 Natasha and the Nirvana cover that should only be used in an Xbox commercial.

Nhex, Tuesday, 13 July 2021 04:29 (four years ago)

mr veg is threatening to purchase it just to mess with me

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Tuesday, 13 July 2021 06:26 (four years ago)

I was completely bored by Black Widow. Pugh was great, Winstone awful and easily the least essential MCU movie. Whole thing felt like a missed opportunity and wonder if it would have been better set further in the past with a younger actor as Natasha.

groovypanda, Tuesday, 13 July 2021 07:05 (four years ago)

Seeing several tweets these past few days about how the MCU “ruined” Taskmaster or “completely wasted the opportunity” of the character.

If I were feeling more charitable if ascribe this less shitty reasons, but I can only assume that the toxic portion of the fandom is having a big baby shitfit because of the casting. So sick of this shit.

Just read that Taskmaster reveal, and think it's a great idea. Besides being a fan of the actor, the more change and inclusion, the better. Fits with the movie, too. The Wiki page has already updated itself with the SPOILER, FYI.

the body of a spider... (scampering alpaca), Tuesday, 13 July 2021 13:36 (four years ago)

Xpost: it’s not because of the casting, they decided to give her a backstory that might rub some people the wrong way and Olga is a fantastic actress but she doesn’t have any lines in the movie that I can think of and she has a couple of scenes without the mask that amount to less than a minute. Considering that she’s not the one doing the fighting and she’s very likely only in a very few scenes the one behind the mask it does feel like they underutilize her and any actor could have acted that role. People are angry not because of the casting but because they wanted more of her not less. I hope we see more of her character in the future in a speaking role.

The actual character fighting was good. Lots of moves that you could immediately identify who it was based of.
