I think the only bit of Britain where cities could look remotely like that would be South Wales

Pontypridd, not a city but who cares!

OMG! So fast! How? :-)

StanM, Thursday, 8 July 2021 17:43 (four years ago)

It just looked like the Welsh valleys, I went out with a girl from Aberdare and have family friends from Llantwit Fardre so I'm reasonably familiar with the area. The cities are a bit far out of the valleys to look like that and I know cherry blossom has played fast and loose with the definition before so I started gising the towns. The beige and blue flats were in the 2nd image for Pontypridd. The train station must be just out of shot

amazing! Well done :)

StanM, Thursday, 8 July 2021 18:11 (four years ago)

Didn't expect that one to fall quite so easily!

cherry blossom, Thursday, 8 July 2021 18:20 (four years ago)

The train station is in shot, but behind the shed

cherry blossom, Thursday, 8 July 2021 18:20 (four years ago)

cherry blossom has played fast and loose with the definition before

Tin City Alaska has a population of 0 and thats a city it even says so in the name. And if Tin City is a city then Pontypridd must be one too

manilla looks too built up for that picture.

is it the decommisioned Rio cable cars? they look similar in shape and colour. no idea about the vie though.

koogs, Monday, 12 July 2021 14:39 (four years ago)

Caracas?

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Monday, 12 July 2021 14:46 (four years ago)

I think I have significantly underestimated how far away Caracas is from the water.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Monday, 12 July 2021 14:49 (four years ago)

so we're on a mountain, the sun is setting behind us = the city is to the east of the mountain and further away there's this very big white fortification type thing with a mountain/hill inside of it? Intriguing and no idea.

StanM, Monday, 12 July 2021 16:26 (four years ago)

Hong Kong

heyy nineteen, that's john belushi (the table is the table), Monday, 12 July 2021 17:05 (four years ago)

is there a part of Hong Kong with so few skyscrapers?

StanM, Monday, 12 July 2021 17:45 (four years ago)

the high-rises don't look extremely new like they would do in China

StanM, Tuesday, 13 July 2021 08:24 (four years ago)

There sure are a lot of cities with cable cars in the world.

This is quite a good article on the subject, though no help in the matter at hand: https://howwegettonext.com/cable-cars-are-changing-the-world-61f2b803c129

At Easter I had a fall. I don't know whether to laugh or cry (ledge), Tuesday, 13 July 2021 09:09 (four years ago)

Theyโ€™re very common as transport in mountainous cities, but mostly inland, which makes me wonder whether this could be a tourist one.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 13 July 2021 09:15 (four years ago)

That white fortification/palace/building complex in the distance must be something famous, no? Why can't I find anything about it

StanM, Tuesday, 13 July 2021 09:16 (four years ago)

man - I thought - what if we're in a lake! Big city in a lake? But then I found out the lake beneath Mexico City has been filled up centuries ago :-/

StanM, Tuesday, 13 July 2021 09:25 (four years ago)

how old is this photo? ;-)

StanM, Tuesday, 13 July 2021 09:26 (four years ago)

It was one of those articles about funiculars that made me think it could be Hong Kong...looks like the terrain and whatnot is very similar to the Ngong Ping 360.

heyy nineteen, that's john belushi (the table is the table), Tuesday, 13 July 2021 10:50 (four years ago)

i think it's somewhere in indonesia

Linda and Jodie Rocco (map), Tuesday, 13 July 2021 12:19 (four years ago)

ha nevermind, the foliage isn't right for it

Linda and Jodie Rocco (map), Tuesday, 13 July 2021 12:20 (four years ago)

it could be Korea? Seoul's cityscape is similar, but it's not big enough for there, so... Daegu perhaps?

Neil S, Tuesday, 13 July 2021 12:44 (four years ago)

feels like the port on the left is too big to be that far inland, but SK does have a lot of cities near the sea, good idea

StanM, Tuesday, 13 July 2021 12:59 (four years ago)

mmmmm - Busan immediately doesn't feel very wrong

StanM, Tuesday, 13 July 2021 13:02 (four years ago)

It does seem like there are at least a few South Korean cities with cable car installations not unlike the one in the photo.

o. nate, Tuesday, 13 July 2021 20:06 (four years ago)

Nice, how did you get it?

nashwan, Thursday, 15 July 2021 15:46 (four years ago)

It was maybe only the 15th South Korean city I looked at. The harbour helped

ignore the blue line (or something), Thursday, 15 July 2021 16:01 (four years ago)

nice!

StanM, Thursday, 15 July 2021 16:10 (four years ago)

I saw everything from Busan to Jindo - if only I had kept at it :(

StanM, Thursday, 15 July 2021 16:13 (four years ago)

South Korea has a lot of cities!

o. nate, Thursday, 15 July 2021 17:54 (four years ago)

Doesn't look like there's any magnificent square fortification round a hill, just tower blocks all blurred together by the distance.
