great article, thanks. I thought I knew plenty about Jesse Armstrong but had no idea he wrote the British version of That 70s Show, which I'm not sure I saw in the UK but possibly in South Africa? I was only young and was extremely confused when I later saw the US version, having only half remembered the UK one.

Really looking FWD to this returning, reading above, I think I wouldn't have minded if they added some pandemic stuff to the script, it's seems perfect fodder for all the 'Conheads' out there. Please, people, don't forget that Connor Roy was interested in politics from a very young age.

Was very mixed about the first two seasons, but tonight’s episode was so well done, just constantly moving in these unusual spaces. Much more jagged conversational rhythms and handheld camera work. Dug it.

Really glad they kept Tom and Greg separate for the whole episode. Tom’s hazing just felt like a redundant joke over a lot of episodes.

*that 'the juice is loose' line was a jaw dropper from the person it came from, in the context. They really ramped up the worst sides of the Roy kids, completed with greasy Roman close ups, shiv snarling and smarming her way around, Kendell manic and maniacal...agree it's good Tom and Greg aren't an obvious sideshow again, but I love me some tom...and I really hope there's a fun storyline for the conheads.

I could object to this show on any number of counts, but it's so reliably entertaining.

While I was watching the Netflix reality show The Circle a few weeks ago, I realized that one of the things I like about it is all the Machiavellian jockeying for power -- forming alliances and making other strategic moves to gain trust and ultimately improve your standing in the game -- and that this is, in a way, no different from what drives the plot in Succession. When it's written well, that kind of thing is just really pleasurable to watch.

That stuff is a big part of what I enjoyed about wolf hall, and this show is weirdly similar in tones times too.

game of thrones, wolf hall and succession are the same show for me because of that, and I love all three

If this whole season moves at this new quasi real-time pace I might be OK with that. Watching them marinate was amazing.

The Shiv scene with Lisa Arthur was one of the best of the series. As with this whole episode, the characters didn’t have the advantage of being in a space where they belonged (their home, their office, a resort or as a guest of honor), and seeing her reactions to rejection was so, so good.

I've only just realised this is actually extremely good and gone deep into series 1.

Yeah I kinda wanted to hate it going in but it’s just so well done

I feel it should be a bad show on paper .. but then again I was very wrong!

I'm not surprised that Brian Cox's performance is rarely less than a+ though

i had to try it a couple of times, the hateability of everyone was so through the roof lol

they are so purely evil but also human enough to transcend that one dimensional caricature beloved of Iannucci and co. God knows what I'm driving at here but idk.. it's very good should suffice!

That doesn't really mean anything though, how does it rank with other HBO shows? They're almost never going to have as many viewers as basic cable.
