Also having to fly back from that well known European capital city of Baku.

Update on football from home
4 hrs driving the (the wrong way) and you haven't seen a single car coming the other way in 40 minutes now, but the road signs... Well, they are getting --- weird. pic.twitter.com/Kaa92hmAIF— Peter Lorimer (@pighilltweets) July 4, 2021

This is v sad but unfortunately a grain of truth to this.
Never going to begrudge anyone hating England or wishing they would lose, but I wish more people not from here would realise that this team is probably one of the most progressive institutions in English society, which is why it’s so funny that the newspapers *hate* them winning— assigned military aged male at birth (@AliceAvizandum) July 4, 2021

I expect a few complaints to be winging Sky News' way after talking about "Brits from all over Europe" descending on Rome to support England.
― Are Animated Dads Getting Hotter? (Tom D.), Sunday, 4 July 2021 14:12 (four years ago)
Seems like a good time to remind everyone that Wales actually reached the semis of the last Euros and I don't remember that being treated like VE Day.
― Are Animated Dads Getting Hotter? (Tom D.), Sunday, 4 July 2021 14:18 (four years ago)
The press seems to be pretty firmly behind England and idk if there is any contradiction in racist thugs supporting multiracial teams engaged in broadly progressive political gestures, either at the domestic or international level. They’re legernds if they win and (insert slurs of choice) when they don’t.
I do think England will beat Denmark but the Danish style of play might unsettle England a bit more than Croatia did.
― Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Sunday, 4 July 2021 14:19 (four years ago)
Yes, I haven't seen any sign of the press 'hating' this team winning.
― Are Animated Dads Getting Hotter? (Tom D.), Sunday, 4 July 2021 14:51 (four years ago)
There is nothing the tabloid press can do to stir if results are going well though I saw some pre-tournament fuckery around taking the knee that would've intensified if Eng hadn't progressed through as they have or if Muller had punished Eng after Sterling's back pass.
All in all Southgate has managed all of these outside elements well and reckon he will look after the players should they go out in calamitous circumstances xp
― xyzzzz__, Sunday, 4 July 2021 15:00 (four years ago)
I bought the Sunday Times yesterday out of curiosity, and... check out this incredible report from the England game, extolling the innate virtues of "the middle-class flavour of the crowd" pic.twitter.com/y1unOajy5w— Dan Hancox (@danhancox) July 5, 2021
― xyzzzz__, Monday, 5 July 2021 09:57 (four years ago)
lol thought about posting that but on UK Pol or Real England thread
― nashwan, Monday, 5 July 2021 10:06 (four years ago)
Funny how so many of the people quoted are from Red Wall areas ... yet they are middle class, this is surely not possible?

Morata and Moreno both dropped, in favour of Oyarzabal.
― Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 6 July 2021 17:57 (four years ago)
Gawky looking fellow. Don't see that making too much difference to the result. By the way, it's been periodically bucketing down in my part of London, wonder how Wembley's doing.
― Are Animated Dads Getting Hotter? (Tom D.), Tuesday, 6 July 2021 17:59 (four years ago)
sunshine apparently (but, like you say, it's been on and off all day in w12, 5 miles away)
― koogs, Tuesday, 6 July 2021 18:03 (four years ago)
Spinazzola's absence and how Italy cope is the oy doubt for me
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 6 July 2021 19:00 (four years ago)
Replacing him with some guy who can't get in the Chelsea team doesn't bode well.
― Wouldn't disgrace a Michael Jackson (Tom D.), Tuesday, 6 July 2021 19:02 (four years ago)
I’m definitely expecting a Raffaella Carrà tribute by both teams in minute 78.

Spain much better with this nippy, mobile front 3. Pedri looking good again.

Italy missing Spinazzola.
― Wouldn't disgrace a Michael Jackson (Tom D.), Tuesday, 6 July 2021 19:29 (four years ago)
Italy don't quite know how to deal with this at the moment. Of course they're dangerous on the counter but I'd be surprised if Mancini doesn't tweak his tactics at half time
― Southgate Serves Imperialism (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 6 July 2021 19:29 (four years ago)

Slightly better from Italy. Nice couple of move.
Not sure about Enrique dropping Morata..
― xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 6 July 2021 19:37 (four years ago)
that last Italy counter looked like it was going to be something and then he just ran until he was dispossessed, hoping for a foul called outside the box, which it most definitely wasn't.
― not up to Aerosmith standards (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 6 July 2021 19:38 (four years ago)
lol @ Oyarzabl
― not up to Aerosmith standards (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 6 July 2021 19:39 (four years ago)
Oyarzabal making Morata look clinical at the moment
― Southgate Serves Imperialism (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 6 July 2021 19:40 (four years ago)
oyarzabal vs immobile: who can be more of a duffer in this game?
