... also I've just found Americans don't use stones at all, only pounds. Something to do with stones being an Imperial measurement and the US being out of the Empire when Imperial measurements were quantified.

There is no doubt a different amount of bounce in a UK/Imperial ounce than a US ounce.

And when in the Southern Hemisphere, remember that the angle of the dangle is directly proportional to the heat of the meat.

I'm another who mixes up Carey Mulligan with Michelle Williams. However, I also get those two confused with Emily Watson, even though she's considerably older.

Carmine Appice
Vinny Appice

...are somewhat tricky to keep straight, but I really came here to say it has recently come to my attention that in the professional realm, Carmine Appice pronounces his surname a-PIECE, whereas his younger brother Vinny Appice pronounces it APP-a-cee.

Josefa, Sunday, 18 July 2021 18:40 (four years ago)

I always pronounced it a-PEE-chay, maybe they could compromise on my version? Beck Bogert Appice must have endured some interesting pronounciations in their short-lived time.

Can this thread be locked since there is a new one now? Or is the new one serving some other function that I haven't grasped?

Oh! I Always Got Those Two Mixed Up: Future Edition

jaymc, Tuesday, 20 July 2021 15:32 (four years ago)

this thread is barely even that long

Clara Lemlich stan account (silby), Tuesday, 20 July 2021 18:26 (four years ago)

Yeah I thought the new thread was some twist I didn’t get

Alba, Tuesday, 20 July 2021 18:31 (four years ago)

Ahem. The new thread was started to post things that one doesn’t mix up but might mix up in a future perhaps stressful moment because they are next to one another but currently still separate in the mind. This was to prevent *joke* posting in this thread that might later actually come true. I guess something posted in that thread could graduate to this thread. Please feel free to ignore it if it irks you.

A viking of frowns, (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Tuesday, 20 July 2021 18:48 (four years ago)

There are some things or people I don’t really don’t know the difference between, which therefore belong on this thread, such as the classic
Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton
(there’s also a Bill Putnam, but I know he is i different)
Then there are some that I currently do know the difference between, but due to some internal bit rot ( perhaps silby can explain) I might not in the future, so they belong on the other thread, such as
Janet Maslin and Janet Malcolm

Maybe others are already using this thread for both purposes but I got spooked when I saw some things I posted here as a joke and that I couldn’t actually tell the difference between anymore so I started the other one for safety’s sake

Two Severins Clash (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 20 July 2021 18:57 (four years ago)

I saw a picture of Steve Vai and Joe Satriani together - I already mix them up, and I thought they looked like two different version of the same guy.

in the young longhaired days of course, not the current bald satriani days

This isn't exactly what this thread is about but it occurred to me that as a pretty big fan of autechre for 20 something years at this point:

- I know that autechre is Sean Booth and Rob Brown
- I know what Sean Booth and Rob Brown look like
- I have no idea which one is Sean Booth and which one is Rob Brown
