Anyway, it'll be all the funnier when they fall on their arses against Denmark.

Wembley tho', but it's better late than never for Eng to face an actually good team.

xyzzzz__, Saturday, 3 July 2021 20:15 (four years ago)

I actually think they'll win that too tbh

England will beat Denmark and I’d give then an even chance of beating either Italy or Spain. Quality of opposition taken into account but they’re on course for eleven games with one goal conceded. They’d struggle against a really creative side but idk if there are any left.

The second most beautiful and poetic thing in football is English self loathing and I wonder if this national side is permanently destroying that.

The English have never had self loathing when it comes to football. If only!

Are Animated Dads Getting Hotter? (Tom D.), Saturday, 3 July 2021 20:30 (four years ago)

Cricket maybe, but football never.

Are Animated Dads Getting Hotter? (Tom D.), Saturday, 3 July 2021 20:31 (four years ago)

I've seen auchinleck talbot teams better than this ukraine outfit

As far as Eng supporters are concerned this is the natural order of things

Disgraceful capitulation from UKR imo

that was horrendous.

england playing exciting soccer for a quarter of the time against a team that got here by luck of the draw really

if you think england can beat italy, you're dreaming, bud

Punster McPunisher, Saturday, 3 July 2021 21:01 (four years ago)

sure, a western wealthy country beating a war torn + much poorer + slightly smaller Eastern European one is just pure fucking marxism

MoMsnet (calzino), Saturday, 3 July 2021 21:02 (four years ago)

relax friends, I'm sure that in due course agent pickford will succeed in his mission to scupper these english dogs

Snap Scottish independence referendum.

Are Animated Dads Getting Hotter? (Tom D.), Saturday, 3 July 2021 21:25 (four years ago)

The idea that England would snap into mourning mode rather than embracing an orgy of national sentimentality, as Elizabeth, seeing her beloved team victorious at last, knew she could safely pass on, leaving the country to a bright, bold future, etc, etc is hilarious. This is such a perfect time for her to die I wouldn’t blame them putting something in her tea.

Southgate to deliver the eulogy, followed by a ritual sacrifice of Boris Johnson to bring the rains again the following year to Qatar.

What do you mean? Germany went out in the last round.

Are Animated Dads Getting Hotter? (Tom D.), Saturday, 3 July 2021 23:20 (four years ago)

so, someone on fifa online just chose to play as england. i haven't seen this in a very long time; probably a year and it's not often. it's mostly barca, real madrid, and juventus.

weirdly enough, they tried playing this silly english catenaccio style. it was pretty suffocating.

Punster McPunisher, Sunday, 4 July 2021 01:32 (four years ago)

"England will beat Denmark and I’d give then an even chance of beating either Italy or Spain."

Thinking of the last half hour at Baku probably fucked the Danish :-(

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 4 July 2021 09:51 (four years ago)

Yes, they looked knackered, whereas England had a practice kickabout against Auchinleck Talbot Ukraine.

Are Animated Dads Getting Hotter? (Tom D.), Sunday, 4 July 2021 10:55 (four years ago)

Croatia had extra time and penalties in their quarters before they beat Eng at the wc, so hope I'm wrong.

xyzzzz__, Sunday, 4 July 2021 11:08 (four years ago)

Schedule's much tighter in this tournament though I think?

This is v sad but unfortunately a grain of truth to this.

Never going to begrudge anyone hating England or wishing they would lose, but I wish more people not from here would realise that this team is probably one of the most progressive institutions in English society, which is why it’s so funny that the newspapers *hate* them winning

I expect a few complaints to be winging Sky News' way after talking about "Brits from all over Europe" descending on Rome to support England.

Are Animated Dads Getting Hotter? (Tom D.), Sunday, 4 July 2021 14:12 (four years ago)

Seems like a good time to remind everyone that Wales actually reached the semis of the last Euros and I don't remember that being treated like VE Day.

Are Animated Dads Getting Hotter? (Tom D.), Sunday, 4 July 2021 14:18 (four years ago)

The press seems to be pretty firmly behind England and idk if there is any contradiction in racist thugs supporting multiracial teams engaged in broadly progressive political gestures, either at the domestic or international level. They’re legernds if they win and (insert slurs of choice) when they don’t.

I do think England will beat Denmark but the Danish style of play might unsettle England a bit more than Croatia did.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Sunday, 4 July 2021 14:19 (four years ago)

Yes, I haven't seen any sign of the press 'hating' this team winning.

Are Animated Dads Getting Hotter? (Tom D.), Sunday, 4 July 2021 14:51 (four years ago)

There is nothing the tabloid press can do to stir if results are going well though I saw some pre-tournament fuckery around taking the knee that would've intensified if Eng hadn't progressed through as they have or if Muller had punished Eng after Sterling's back pass.

All in all Southgate has managed all of these outside elements well and reckon he will look after the players should they go out in calamitous circumstances xp
