By the door, I mean.

The headless man outside the cabin is taking a photo of something that looks like it could be used for gold panning. I'd say in general there's more of a "pioneer"/western frontier feel to the place (i.e., not the northeast where the emphasis would be more on colonial-era history, I think). Possibly Alaska, Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota, etc. This is more of a stretch, but the way the people outside are dressed also looks ~western US~ to me

Given it's set to 64 and what everyone is wearing, that machine is probably functioning as a heater. I don't think the ropes are there to put her on display, she just works there and you're not supposed to touch anything behind the ropes

Stack of maps looks like a mountain range or river valley

rob, Friday, 2 July 2021 13:50 (four years ago)

six minutes later and I'm rethinking all that lol

the Amish wear straw hats with black ribbons, though they may not be the only people in history to do that

on further inspection, I'm not sure what the hell that guy is taking a picture of

rob, Friday, 2 July 2021 13:58 (four years ago)

an empty parking lot in the Summer, possible ski slope on the right?

StanM, Tuesday, 6 July 2021 13:37 (four years ago)

If that's a ski slope, could be the Appalachian mountains since the trees and buildings suggest modest elevation. Maybe somewhere in TN or NC?

that's not my post, Tuesday, 6 July 2021 13:47 (four years ago)

swimming pool in an industrial estate, narrows it down a tad.

Diggin Holes (Ste), Tuesday, 6 July 2021 14:10 (four years ago)

the buildings look a little on the tall side for the west, so i'm cautiously going to say appalachia or maybe vermont/maine if that's skiing stuff (skeptical about that).

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 6 July 2021 18:50 (four years ago)

hmm, maybe the "amish" hat was a clue and this is the Poconos?

rob, Tuesday, 6 July 2021 19:38 (four years ago)

Gatlinburg

assert (matttkkkk), Tuesday, 6 July 2021 20:10 (four years ago)

I think so too, though I can't find the exact location of the photo. If you squint enough, that trolley map says "Gatlinburg Trolley".

I couldn't read the first bit so I did a GIS for "trolley routes map"

Ahhh well done, I was googling Trolley Rides.

kinder, Tuesday, 6 July 2021 20:49 (four years ago)

Correct on the first view - the lady is pretty close by, same part of town

(zoom out to see how that woman in her cabin is actually in a busy part of town)

StanM, Wednesday, 7 July 2021 13:29 (four years ago)

sorry I keep going on about this but it's hilarious

"The first home built in White Oak Flats / Gatlinburg around 1802. It has been moved three times to allow for expansion of schools and the constant changes of the demands of tourism and now hopefully permanently located at the Gatlinburg Visitor Center at the junction of Hwy's 321/441."

Thursday

cherry blossom, Thursday, 8 July 2021 16:01 (four years ago)

... I have no idea why but it doesn't feel un-British to me?

StanM, Thursday, 8 July 2021 16:10 (four years ago)

Does anyone know what kind of sport is played on that court in the right-hand side? Doesn't look like tennis (no net) or basketball (no hoop).

o. nate, Thursday, 8 July 2021 16:54 (four years ago)

buildings and tv aerials look extremely british to me. but the amount of trees outside the town (an entire hill!) seems wrong for the UK.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Thursday, 8 July 2021 17:01 (four years ago)

I think the only bit of Britain where cities could look remotely like that would be South Wales

Pontypridd, not a city but who cares!

nice! the trees rule out pretty much all of england but i literally forgot about the existence of wales haha.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Thursday, 8 July 2021 17:22 (four years ago)

OMG! So fast! How? :-)

StanM, Thursday, 8 July 2021 17:43 (four years ago)

It just looked like the Welsh valleys, I went out with a girl from Aberdare and have family friends from Llantwit Fardre so I'm reasonably familiar with the area. The cities are a bit far out of the valleys to look like that and I know cherry blossom has played fast and loose with the definition before so I started gising the towns. The beige and blue flats were in the 2nd image for Pontypridd. The train station must be just out of shot

ignore the blue line (or something), Thursday, 8 July 2021 18:00 (four years ago)

amazing! Well done :)

StanM, Thursday, 8 July 2021 18:11 (four years ago)

Didn't expect that one to fall quite so easily!

cherry blossom, Thursday, 8 July 2021 18:20 (four years ago)

The train station is in shot, but behind the shed

cherry blossom, Thursday, 8 July 2021 18:20 (four years ago)

cherry blossom has played fast and loose with the definition before

Tin City Alaska has a population of 0 and thats a city it even says so in the name. And if Tin City is a city then Pontypridd must be one too
