I really don't understand how Gandolfini's son is playing Tony. The kid is 19 this year, the series established Tony's birthdate as 1959/60, and the movie takes place in the turbulent Newark of the '60s.

Gandolfini's son already laughably tried to play a teenager in The Deuce—I didn't know who he was at first so was deeply confused why they didn't just cast an actual teen actor. He was more convincing when they let him play a sleazy douchebag stock broker in the third season, but he's...not his dad

Movie will probably be fine; the trailer rots. It looks like they gave young Tony some AJ qualities, which is probably the way to go.

Feel like Gandolfini and Falco's performances have held up, and most of the rest of the show has not. But maybe I need to watch it again.

Definitely the latter. Not only has it not dated - it’s gained layers and layers of context and resonance.

Not worried about the movie - trailer is clearly designed to draw in demographics who’ve never watched the show. And hey, now some of them will.

Do we know for sure that Gandolfini is involved in the Newark riots portion of the movie? I always thought the focus of this was supposed to be more on Dickie, so it could begin in the 60s, with Tony not showing up until it progresses to the 70s.

I don't see her that often--she was really good in Netflix's Halston film. In this one, I'd be more worried about Ray Liotta (among lots else, if the trailer means anything).

I could not think of any others, but it has had to happen at some point I would figure.

Not surprised guy on the right didn't get called back for the movie, but if I ever get around to filming my bio flick about the band Jigsaw, I know who to call.

Awful movie and I physically recoiled at the ending.

I'm going to see it this weekend and watch it like I'd watch any horror film, peeking through my hands.

It turns out this is a case where the trailer very accurately conveyed what the movie would be.

fwiw, all the hullaballoo sparked a sopranos rewatch from me, i think it's only my second time through! Knocked out most of the first season in two days. I dunno if you guys know this or not, but it's pretty good!

since 2010 I've watched it all three times I think, poor old Morbz only seemed to be taking it in a few episodes a year.

christ, this was even worse than the trailer made it look. The only positive thing I can say about is that because I stayed up late to watch it my dog was in the front of the house and scared off a possible burglar who must have been lurking about in the front garden while I was watching it in the kitchen.

idk probably better enjoyed on a small screen. I had zero expectations and didn’t expect a crime-and-family story for the ages, just an extended episode set in the sopranoverse.

This was... weird and thin in plot. Agree the cast were great, esp loved the guy playing Syl leaning into those already-exaggerated mannerisms Van zant had in the show.

Even though I'd only watched all of the Sopranos fairly recently, i was struggling to follow who was who, and completely missed the significance/omg factor of what Uncle Jun did (no spoilers).
