I just looked through a bunch of league leaders and I actually found 2 other players who have only missed 4 questions this season, which is also the second for both (one does have a forfeit loss, however). At the same time, the other more established players have all gotten fewer than a dozen wrong answers themselves. A Rundle problems.

BABA BUOY (Leee), Sunday, 20 June 2021 16:39 (four years ago)

Only one other, it seems? The leaguewide TCA leaders (all leagues, all rundles) have these scores out of 150:

146
146
142
141
141
141
141
141
140
140
140
140
140
then 139, 138 (times 5), 137 (times 11), 136 (times 3), 135 (times 13), 134 (times 14), and so on with quite a few people on each score.

Although looking closer, none of those two has a forfeit loss, so maybe something was done already. In any case, that four-point jump at the top stands out a bit, I must say.

looks like i'm heading back down to C next season :/

na (NA), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 14:37 (four years ago)

this was a tough season for me

na (NA), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 14:38 (four years ago)

Sorry, dude. I managed to avoid relegation with a final-day 9(6), whew.

jaymc, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 14:42 (four years ago)

You and me both, na.

Rich Valley Girl, Poor Valley Girl (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 14:52 (four years ago)

i got a 7(5) on the last day! unfortunately my competitor got a 9(6)

it's ok, i think C is probably where i belong. i had a couple of good seasons (or rather, seasons that seemed heavier on my better topics) that bumped me up into B and kept me there for a bit, but i'm probably a C at heart

na (NA), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 15:19 (four years ago)

I won my rundle for the second consecutive year, in both instances primarily due to good (i.e. lucky) defense. It's a dynasty!

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 15:30 (four years ago)

Uh, I obv forgot to account for the 0(F) in my last post above; seems guy #3 ended up with five errors.

Had a pretty bad final day; #7 in B probably about fair. :)

Wd justfanoe, and good luck in championship!

Wondering if it makes any sense to say that LL gets more competitive as time goes by and work is required merely to stay in place.

Rich Valley Girl, Poor Valley Girl (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 17:07 (four years ago)

maybe but the questions also did seem harder this season

na (NA), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 17:09 (four years ago)

I'm pretty sure that during the expansion era it got less competitive over time, by a vaguely statistical argument. Most players who join will be around the median strength, and the concentration of skilled players in the A rundles of the earliest leagues will be diluted out, giving more opportunity for people like yrs truly to float in the middle of an A rundle indefinitely despite a not very spectacular Qpct.

Clara Lemlich stan account (silby), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 17:26 (four years ago)

like, I assume each new league added didn't necessarily = the addition of 25 new players who are all as strong or stronger than every player already in an A rundle.

Clara Lemlich stan account (silby), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 17:27 (four years ago)

won my first ‘trophy’ with an .844 DE

it’ll probably be like .600 next season

mookieproof, Tuesday, 22 June 2021 19:01 (four years ago)

mazel tov, well played

burly crafty woodsman (James Harden) vs tall ethereal phantom (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 23 June 2021 16:04 (four years ago)

Only two of us doing opera?

Planck Generation (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 2 July 2021 01:28 (four years ago)

no chance i was touching that. i probably know more about the web browser than i do the artistic medium

Kompakt Total Landscaping (Will M.), Friday, 2 July 2021 20:53 (four years ago)

I submitted two 1DSes late today and got credit for neither. Oh well, not going to sweat it.

Planck Generation (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 2 July 2021 20:59 (four years ago)

One was Irish Rock, where I only missed one. The other was Golden Spheres, where I very carefully did the calculation but forget it said diameter and not radius.

Planck Generation (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 2 July 2021 21:07 (four years ago)

I got 7 right in Irish Rock and still ended up below the 50th %ile -- I'm kind of surprised the the Corrs question played relatively easy, as I had to dig really hard to remember their name.

I did better on the Bermanisms one though.

BABA BUOY (Leee), Friday, 2 July 2021 22:16 (four years ago)

I had a hard time figuring out which questions to money in Irish Rock. Intellectually, I knew that I should money My Bloody Valentine (because indie) -- and if it were regular LL, I likely would've assigned it a 3 unless my opponent seemed particularly strong in popular music. But in the context of that 1DS, it just felt like a straight-ahead gimme. (By contrast, Bob Geldof *feels* more obscure to me, a name only old music nerds know. Ah well.)

jaymc, Saturday, 3 July 2021 04:55 (four years ago)

Yeah. It seemed like it had that, um, classic problem of being pretty easy to answer, hard to money.

Planck Generation (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 3 July 2021 13:43 (four years ago)

The commish does not observe the holiday? Probably for the best

Planck Generation (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 5 July 2021 17:15 (four years ago)

I'm glad for it!

I did surprisingly well in Gluten-free, though I absolutely left points on the table there, and thought that Q12 (which I got correct and moneyed) would play harder.

Gemini Cricket (Leee), Monday, 5 July 2021 22:55 (four years ago)

Enjoying the Opera ML, Mystery Themes not so much.

Planck Generation (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 6 July 2021 15:01 (four years ago)

same today

Planck Generation (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 8 July 2021 04:25 (four years ago)

I finally got the theme on MD3, but yeah, this ML is proving kind of unpopular.

Gemini Cricket (Leee), Thursday, 8 July 2021 13:02 (four years ago)

That's how I feel too even though I'm getting crushed in the Opera ML and doing fine in Mystery Themes.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Thursday, 8 July 2021 13:43 (four years ago)

Meaning you are enjoying Opera more?

Planck Generation (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 8 July 2021 15:16 (four years ago)

Also don’t think you are doing as badly as you say

Planck Generation (James Redd and the Blecchs), Thursday, 8 July 2021 15:19 (four years ago)

90th %ile in the Thorsten Sandiego 1DS!

Gemini Cricket (Leee), Thursday, 8 July 2021 20:01 (four years ago)

Yes, I've been enjoying opera and not enjoying Mystery Themes.

I'm dead middle of the pack on Opera, which is about as I expected. I've been learning a lot though so it's been fun.

justfanoe (Greg Fanoe), Thursday, 8 July 2021 20:32 (four years ago)

Here to highly recommend You Probably Think This Song Is About You, which I playtested.

Planck Generation (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 12 July 2021 06:46 (four years ago)

There's a Cephalopod 1D too, which I'm sure a few players here would enjoy.

Gemini Cricket (Leee), Monday, 12 July 2021 20:51 (four years ago)

yeah, i played that and the silver age comic one today with better luck than usual

Yours in Sorrow, A Schoolboy: (forksclovetofu), Monday, 12 July 2021 20:52 (four years ago)

i got in the top 10% for the roger corman one-day

na (NA), Monday, 12 July 2021 20:53 (four years ago)

I didn't do very well on the first two days of Mystery Themes, but have been on a roll since then.

I haven't been paying much attention to the recent One-Days, apart from Irish Rock and US Campaign Finance.

jaymc, Monday, 12 July 2021 21:11 (four years ago)

Ran into a certain crossword editor who lives down the block at the cheese shop yesterday and found out he was a LLama as well. Noticed he had a Prince tattoo on his arm and today saw that his LL flag was a picture of Prince!

Two Severins Clash (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 16 July 2021 12:13 (four years ago)

I ran into him at the cheese shop, which is three blocks away and in which he does not live.

Two Severins Clash (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 16 July 2021 12:17 (four years ago)

I would

Clara Lemlich stan account (silby), Friday, 16 July 2021 17:19 (four years ago)

Live in a cheese shop? Are you a mouse, silby?

Two Severins Clash (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 16 July 2021 17:45 (four years ago)

I would totally live in a cheese shop too.

Gemini Cricket (Leee), Friday, 16 July 2021 18:39 (four years ago)

not a furry I just think it's probably cold in there and there's lots of cheese

Clara Lemlich stan account (silby), Friday, 16 July 2021 18:53 (four years ago)

90% on cephalopods but only 68% on silver age comics, who even am i

Yours in Sorrow, A Schoolboy: (forksclovetofu), Saturday, 17 July 2021 07:01 (four years ago)

Ha, that’s the way the LLAma fur, um breaks? Parts?

Two Severins Clash (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 17 July 2021 10:36 (four years ago)

So there is a 1DS today about music, not about Biz Markie, no further comment.

Two Severins Clash (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 17 July 2021 10:37 (four years ago)

I'm actually in second place in Mystery Themes, which is, placement-wise, the best I've ever done. I need to at least tie in the last match to go to the championship, though.

Gemini Cricket (Leee), Saturday, 17 July 2021 17:10 (four years ago)

I was in 2nd for a long time but then dropped to 3rd in Opera, which spared me having to compete in the final.

Two Severins Clash (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 17 July 2021 20:16 (four years ago)

Heh, the results for Our Band Could Be Your Life were as expected.

Two Severins Clash (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 19 July 2021 22:07 (four years ago)

I see that I tied with our very own govern yourself accordingly. Looks like there were a lot of 12/12s on that own, so it came down to moneying even more than usual.
