has Red Scare gotten any blowback for being total anti-Palestine idiots on pod in the past now that the issue's blown up in the discourse again or nah?
― Daniel_Rf, Thursday, 17 June 2021 09:31 (two years ago) link
I just sort of assumed most ppl who know they're dummies stopped listening ages ago
― intern at pelican brief consulting (Simon H.), Thursday, 17 June 2021 12:06 (two years ago) link
yeah I guess, just seeing their star in the ascendant and while I'm not usually out for blood on these things in this particular case a cancellation would be in order
― Daniel_Rf, Thursday, 17 June 2021 12:27 (two years ago) link
they can't be "cancelled" because they have a loyal simp audience and they're making the content they wish to hear, and any external criticism is just that, external. it would be like "cancelling" cum town - what's the point?
― intern at pelican brief consulting (Simon H.), Thursday, 17 June 2021 12:42 (two years ago) link
As I said, my impression is that they're getting more shine outside of that audience.
― Daniel_Rf, Thursday, 17 June 2021 12:44 (two years ago) link
Hopefully dasha's acting career ends up nuking the pod before that can really happen, but personally my feeling is the audience/popularity/influence ceiling for the show is genuinely not that high
― intern at pelican brief consulting (Simon H.), Thursday, 17 June 2021 12:54 (two years ago) link
(Like, obviously they're doing very, very well for a podcast, but I don't see even CTH-level "ubiquity" in their future.)
― intern at pelican brief consulting (Simon H.), Thursday, 17 June 2021 12:56 (two years ago) link
It won't happen anytime soon, but I'm guessing they could be among the first to eventually hang it up and focus on their life-consuming non-podcast things -- something I don't notice as much on the other shows I've heard. It sounds like the show serves themselves more than anyone else, which is what their listeners want. Probably not the best way to expand an audience, but definitely a good way to maintain a following.

Matt and Chris have a new one on Stitcher Premium about Presidents. It’s bound to be better than the Felix show but the Stitcher app is so bad.

Eager to finally hear Blowback: Cuba.
I dig the episodes that are the mix of history, sociology, culture, politics mixed together.

on a tangentially-chapo related note: Sam Seder's ambush of Crowder was hilarious
― Muswell Hillbilly Elegy (President Keyes), Tuesday, 22 June 2021 14:26 (two years ago) link
Mostly because Seder appears for 2 seconds and Crowder starts sputtering and trying to fill every available space with words so Seder can't talk

Crowder has also banned the terms Sam Seder and majority report from his reddit, lol

daily wire whining on Twitter about bad faith “debate me bro”s is reaching heights of hypocrisy that I did not think were possible

It was weird when Crowder threw out a list of people who refuse to debate Seder: Joe Rogan, Dave Rubin, Noam Chomsky (wait, what?)

just for the record I am also refusing to debate Seder, whoever that is.

So virgil texas never addressed the accusations, even privately to briahna joy gray. Seems bad. The pod is better with just her anyway though.

is there a name for the kind of writing you always get in these situations, this bland tone which i assume is supposed to be read as fair and empathetic without taking sides, it's everywhere these days

― Glower, Disruption & Pies (kingfish), Wednesday, 30 June 2021 21:52 (two years ago) link
You can read between the lines here though.
Given the anonymity of the accusation, it would have been easy for Virgil to deny it if it was false. Bri could have also said that unless some evidence comes to light, even corroborating details, she can’t assume it is true.
The fact is that Virgil has not denied this. And he seemingly hasn’t even made the case to Bri that it is untrue. Sooooooooooo

Can someone explain to me what the podcast name “Pod About List” means?
― bruce spr!ngisH3r3 on broadway (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 5 July 2021 21:11 (two years ago) link
the (loose) format of the show is that they discuss some list they found on the internet each ep
― 《Myst1kOblivi0n》 (jim in vancouver), Monday, 5 July 2021 21:11 (two years ago) link
i only listened to a few eps (not a very regular podcast listener) and they didn't always adhere to the format
― 《Myst1kOblivi0n》 (jim in vancouver), Monday, 5 July 2021 21:12 (two years ago) link
Then, I guess the question is about the wordplay (?) that makes it that and not “Pod About Lists”
― bruce spr!ngisH3r3 on broadway (Whiney G. Weingarten), Monday, 5 July 2021 21:23 (two years ago) link
oh yeah i dunno
― 《Myst1kOblivi0n》 (jim in vancouver), Monday, 5 July 2021 21:29 (two years ago) link
there's no wordplay, they're just doing dumb guy syntax i think
(i've listened to a lot of eps and as far as i can tell that's the idea. i mean each episode is one podcast about one list so it kinda makes sense if you put it like that)

(Listening to “Know Your Enemy” can feel like visiting a semi-reclusive friend whose apartment is crammed with out-of-print books, but who always keeps a stash of good bourbon on hand.)
I have enjoyed episodes of this podcast and might resemble that description to an extent but Jesus Christ. (Also the ‘but’ implies that the bourbon makes up for having to be around all those books?)
― JoeStork, Monday, 26 July 2021 18:07 (two years ago) link
Not a hard description to resemble, now that you point it out. Not really sure what semi-reclusive means, but I feel like it probably describes a lot of people these days.

Have never listened to either pod, but Know Your Enemy sounds less insufferable to me. Marantz's description of Chapo's "blanket fatalism" is precisely what irritates me about some ILXors' posts.
― jaymc, Tuesday, 27 July 2021 17:25 (two years ago) link
whenever i've listen to chapo, i've always been amazed at how half-assed it sounds. sometimes matt christman has some good insights, but they're just kind of peppered into a conversation that is mostly just smug and dumb.
― treeship., Tuesday, 27 July 2021 17:47 (two years ago) link
true anon is better because brace and liz are more likable, but their format has its issues too. the jfk series has really interesting elements but the whole was way less than the sum of its parts. it was disorganized. and again, you have the same thing where the hosts are dug into their "fatalistic" premises about the shadowy hand of the cia or whatever
― treeship., Tuesday, 27 July 2021 17:49 (two years ago) link
I like both shows a lot. One partic good episode is when Matt Sitman from KYE came on CHT to talk about JD Vance. They really got to the heart of his bullshit way before any of the credulous NPR/ NYT liberals who were convinced he’d penned some sort of Rosetta Stone for the MAGA rubes (while flattering their own prejudices) could. And holy shit were they right. Watching him just make an absolute clown of himself on Twitter and cable news over the last few months has been gratifying.
