all the plants are green and there's a Christmas tree in the yellow house - Southern hemisphere? (or is it that hot in Floriday at Christmas time?)
― StanM, Monday, 14 June 2021 13:05 (five years ago)
xpost yes! it also feels Japanese - no overhead power cables though
― StanM, Monday, 14 June 2021 13:08 (five years ago)
I didn't actually notice the flag outside the yellow house but taking the two together that's surely a US flag. Both Miami and Tampa seem to use blue recycle bins.
― nashwan, Monday, 14 June 2021 13:32 (five years ago)
looks dry for Florida imo, I'd guess California or even Arizona
― trap door to hell opens underneath (rob), Monday, 14 June 2021 13:37 (five years ago)
the presence of multiple pedestrians might rule out AZ though
― trap door to hell opens underneath (rob), Monday, 14 June 2021 13:38 (five years ago)
it looks like a desert climate and fairly densely populated. somewhere in LA?
― treeship., Monday, 14 June 2021 14:13 (five years ago)
Id guess Cali, too. Too many aquaphobic plants and xeroscaping to be Florida.
― heyy nineteen, that's john belushi (the table is the table), Monday, 14 June 2021 14:17 (five years ago)
looks like it could be tucson or san diego but the lack of sidewalks is kind of weird for most u.s. cities so idk, the us flag might be a red herring lol.
― Linda and Jodie Rocco (map), Monday, 14 June 2021 14:33 (five years ago)
i think it's too dry to be coastal cali though
― Linda and Jodie Rocco (map), Monday, 14 June 2021 14:34 (five years ago)
It's not San Bernardino or Merced, from my initial searching.
― heyy nineteen, that's john belushi (the table is the table), Monday, 14 June 2021 16:26 (five years ago)
The small lots and apartment building density suggests beach town to me. Beach towns can be dry.
― nickn, Monday, 14 June 2021 16:33 (five years ago)
Yeah, tbh it feels kind of like San Diego.
― heyy nineteen, that's john belushi (the table is the table), Monday, 14 June 2021 16:44 (five years ago)
yeah totally looks like The Strandway except without the red curbs

agreed this feels like coastal socal. probably very coastal (like within quarter of a mile of the ocean) given the density and pedestrian infrastructure and general beach vibe.
the low rise relatively dense vibe feels like hermosa or manhattan beach to me, but they have no k street.
the only coastal k street i can find in CA is in san diego, but it's way bigger than this one, unless this is an alley behind k street.
― π ππ’π¨ (caek), Monday, 14 June 2021 17:57 (five years ago)
although there's something not quite right about those two vans in the distance that makes me think okinawa might be thinking more along the right lines.
― π ππ’π¨ (caek), Monday, 14 June 2021 18:00 (five years ago)
also the absense of overhead cables + US flags makes no sense to me.
― π ππ’π¨ (caek), Monday, 14 June 2021 18:01 (five years ago)
fwiw I thought that said "4th" street not K
― trap door to hell opens underneath (rob), Monday, 14 June 2021 18:11 (five years ago)
yeah I'm totally not sure about that K
― StanM, Monday, 14 June 2021 18:12 (five years ago)
the low rise relatively dense vibe feels like hermosa or manhattan beach to me
this was my first thought too.
― γMyst1kOblivi0nγ (jim in vancouver), Monday, 14 June 2021 18:13 (five years ago)
Are there any modest houses left in hermosa or manhattan beach?
I was thinking a more middle class beach town like Oceanside.
― nickn, Monday, 14 June 2021 18:19 (five years ago)
the houses in hermosa and manhattan are mostly shitholes. they just happen to cost $3m.
― π ππ’π¨ (caek), Monday, 14 June 2021 18:21 (five years ago)
the only other thought i had was venice beach, but this looks a little ... culturally suburban for that?
― π ππ’π¨ (caek), Monday, 14 June 2021 18:22 (five years ago)
xpI guess I shouldn't extrapolate from the LA Times real estate section's "stars who just bought/sold a house" column.

K, 4th, or 7th have all seemed possible to me

Still looks like California beach town that time forgot, but I didn't think there were any of those any more.
― nickn, Thursday, 17 June 2021 05:02 (four years ago)
Starting to think North Baja, Mexico, actually.
― nickn, Thursday, 17 June 2021 05:03 (four years ago)
yeah something's not right. this isn't socal.
― π ππ’π¨ (caek), Thursday, 17 June 2021 05:15 (four years ago)
the cars are wrong and there are no green bins.

Hawaii?
― StanM, Thursday, 17 June 2021 05:20 (four years ago)
This is another pic like the Newcastle one that is light sometimes and dark other times
― cherry blossom, Thursday, 17 June 2021 05:30 (four years ago)
Does Mexico have stop signs that say stop? Not according to Wikipedia
― Zelda Zonk, Thursday, 17 June 2021 05:36 (four years ago)
Puerto Rico, maybe
― assert (matttkkkk), Thursday, 17 June 2021 05:45 (four years ago)
Weatherboard houses in disrepair close to the sea does make me think Caribbean, but no idea where
― Zelda Zonk, Thursday, 17 June 2021 06:12 (four years ago)
alright well I will formally guess San Juan, Puerto Rico
― assert (matttkkkk), Thursday, 17 June 2021 06:50 (four years ago)
Definitely looks like American Southwest, but starting to wonder if maybe it's not actually that near the beach.
― o. nate, Thursday, 17 June 2021 13:36 (four years ago)
Eh I donβt think itβs the continental US
― π ππ’π¨ (caek), Thursday, 17 June 2021 15:53 (four years ago)
if that red sign with yellow letters just above the STOP sign on the right is a street name sign, then it's probably not in the USA?
"As of 2009, the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) approved color schemes for street name signs including a green, blue, or brown background with white text, or a white background with black text"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_name_sign#Color_coding_and_typography - which also mentions there are exceptions though (burgundy in the Fiesta part of Mesa, AZ? Haven't found an example yet)
― StanM, Thursday, 17 June 2021 17:51 (four years ago)
The street sign background looks more brown than red.
― nickn, Thursday, 17 June 2021 18:18 (four years ago)
i assume a stop sign in puerto rico would say "pare"

StanM already said Hawaii and that has blue bins, similar road markings, red octagonal stop signs, bungaloids as far as the eye can see. Damned if I can narrow it down though.

Pretty sure that's a red golf buggy. Maybe it's near a golf course (at least a dozen in honolulu alone) or maybe someone just likes to tool around in a golf buggy.
― In the wastelands of Birmingham and Manchester, massages are back (ledge), Friday, 18 June 2021 15:57 (four years ago)
but how are these three pictures so... horizontal? Anywere I click on Hawaii has mountains in the background (or I'm doing it wrong)

Hermosa Beach!

I thought someone already kind of guessed it, but I guess not formally.
― o. nate, Friday, 18 June 2021 16:22 (four years ago)
Still curious exactly where that first shot was taken though. Such a weird vibe in that photo.
