Running "donna martin graduates" through google turns up some choice stuff. Two favorites -- first, from a buried blog comment somewhere:

The best part of the “Donna Martin Graduates” story line actually took place the next year when Brandon was sought out and recruited by the California University Progressive Party to run for the Student Senate because they were so impressed that he organized the “Donna Martin Graduates” protest.

Second, good ol' X-Entertainment with The Wacky Dads of 90210.

Then there's the actual Donna Martin Graduates blog, with "Stories from the front lines of inner-city elementary school education, as told by a bad teacher at a good school in an above-average district." It has not been updated for a year and a half.

Let us also remember The Ben Stiller Show's "Melrose Heights 90210-2402."

“I AM NOT A ROBOT!”

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 11 June 2006 04:41 (twenty years ago)

Gabrielle Carteris went to my college. I think that she was there to witness the famous Holly Robinson/Robin Givens catfight (all of which happened before I went there).

Also, 90210 full of gratuitous references to Minneapolis, like shopping at Dayton's.

I was hurt by the ease with which Steve replaced Dylan as Brandon's best friend sometime in season three.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Sunday, 11 June 2006 12:25 (twenty years ago)

I mean, the first thing Dylan showed Brandon upon meeting him was a book of Byron's poetry, hidden in his Porsche. What did Steve read?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Sunday, 11 June 2006 12:26 (twenty years ago)

to be fair, he did meet Steve first. Dylan was clearly an interloper and Steve was just the patient kind, waiting, y'know?

Doctor Barry, i forgot to tell you last night that i now curse your name for ever reminding me of Joe E. Tata. i finally had peace, now that the show has been off the air so long, because (i have NO idea why but) his name and his oddly limited acting career sticks in my mind even more than Ornaldo Bloomps.

Kim (Kim), Sunday, 11 June 2006 16:58 (twenty years ago)

oh and the weirdest Nat/Peach Pit thing that bugs me - the entire character is almost exactly copied from the FAME tv series where the hangout was called instead called "Lou's Lanes" and the owner (called "Lou" obv.) was played by Dick Mackie. They look remarkably alike and even had the same outfit right down to the name patch.

Dick as "Lou"

Joe as "Nat"

Doctor Barry, i forgot to tell you last night that i now curse your name for ever reminding me of Joe E. Tata.

A GIS for Joe E. Tata turns up extremely limited results! Come on Kim, you should be thanking me here. Can you name another character on a long-running hit TV show that was as lovingly useless as Nat? We should be celebrating his name.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Sunday, 11 June 2006 19:06 (twenty years ago)

no, I don't think you understand. i will now wake up at 3am or be buying groceries or drying my hair and his name and his uselessness will just be there gnawing at my brain. Joe E. Tata, Joe E. Tata, Joe E. Tata... and that Nat/Lou thing... was it on purpose? was IT? omg. i must know!

it's my own fault though. i should have known better than to click on this thread - but i had truly forgotten.

-- Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (soto.alfre...) (webmail), Today 8:26 AM. (Alfred Soto) (later)

but steve didnt need to read anything. he was filthy rich and thrilled to be filthy rich. the rest spent their time trying to slum it, making them not only lame and boring, but also perfect victims for brandons self-righteous tirades.

sunny successor (katharine), Sunday, 11 June 2006 19:35 (twenty years ago)

I heart Nat. I love his story line where he ashamed of his Roger Corman movies and his old girlfriend shows up.

LOL Thomas (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 11 June 2006 23:44 (twenty years ago)

Another fave story arc that I just remembered... Kelly joins a cult!

What was it called "The Evolution" or something?

LOL Thomas (Chris Barrus), Sunday, 11 June 2006 23:48 (twenty years ago)

Ohmigod, I had forgotten all the minutia of exactly how great this show was. Yeah, Kelly joined a cult!

Free Your Ass (And Your Mind Will Follow) (kate), Monday, 12 June 2006 08:45 (twenty years ago)

they went crazy with the merchandising for this. I actually have one of the Brandon barbies stored away somewhere.

I actually watched some clips of some cast reunion show and Priestly said a cogent thing, when they were talking about THE HAIR, he was like "well it was the '80s!" and the others said "it was the '90s!" and he said "okay..it was the early '90s... but it was the '80s!" ... BH90210 really melded that '80s stuff with the '90s in such a weird way.

spectra (spectra), Monday, 12 June 2006 13:10 (twenty years ago)

remember when brenda went to the University of MN for a couple episodes? They interpersed this wierd stock video footage of campus in between scenes...it was totes hilarious...everyone dressed in penny loafters and collar shirts (her girl roommates) and they were all like "well i guess you guys dress like that in california, but we're a little more conservative here"...which is awesome if you were actually at the U of M in the early/mid 90s cuz it's like "where's the gutter punx and the vegan protests"....

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 12 June 2006 15:40 (twenty years ago)

id forgotten that! all her old mn friends just couldnt relate anymore.

sunny successor (katharine), Monday, 12 June 2006 15:41 (twenty years ago)

Kelly joins a cult!

Kelly was a one-woman Lifetime Network. She joined a cult, had a coke addiction, an eating disorder, was stalked, raped, etc....

Bluebell Madonna (Ex Leon), Monday, 12 June 2006 15:45 (twenty years ago)

now she is the lifetime network.

sunny successor (katharine), Monday, 12 June 2006 15:45 (twenty years ago)

also, the guy who sits two desks away from me at work is named steve sanders. hottt.

sunny successor (katharine), Monday, 12 June 2006 16:01 (twenty years ago)

I loved Steve's mullet-perm during the first two years.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn (Alfred Soto), Monday, 12 June 2006 16:02 (twenty years ago)

Does he look like the real Steve Sanders?

tokyo nursery school: afternoon session (rosemary), Monday, 12 June 2006 16:05 (twenty years ago)

And no mention of the various hijinx of Steve's little brothers, one of them being played by Tori Spelling's brother.

Season one of Beverly Hills 90210 comes out in the US on 7th November. Season one of Melrose Place will also be released on the same date.

Ben Mott (Ben Mott), Sunday, 23 July 2006 08:00 (nineteen years ago)

I totally saw that second one! all I really remember about it is Brenda wearing a loose, flowy dress and one of those Blossom hats to school and Kelly seeing her at her locker and saying, "the hippy witch look is totally out" or something to that effect. Kelly and Brenda weren't friends that week for some reason.
-- horseshoe (rosalind51...), June 9th, 2006.

Strangely, this is one of the few parts of the show I remember too. I was thinking about it the other day for some reason.

Oh, Jason Jason Jason, the life we could have spent together...

Wait, what?

Today, the CW ordered the pilot of a "90210" spinoff of sorts penned by Rob Thomas, creator of "Veronica Mars," and executive produced by two members of the "Veronica Mars" producing team, Dan Etheridge and Jennifer Gwartz.

In this contemporary version, the Walshes have been replaced by a central family consisting of a grandmother who was a huge star in the 1970s, her do-gooder son and his athletic wife, and their two teenagers. Their 16-year-old daughter is described as an aspiring and talented actress, and their adopted son is also 16. He's highly intelligent, but with lingering behavioral issues.

The pilot will be directed by Mark Piznarski, who has directed episodes of "Gossip Girl," "Friday Night Lights" and "Veronica Mars." The network will begin casting the project soon.

Too funny...I've been watching the third season for the last several weeks.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 01:57 (eighteen years ago)

i'm so glad alfred! i don't know that we've gotten the 3rd season yet. we kept busy with the 1st and 2nd on dvd. is soapnet still showing it?

very excited to dig back in, but slightly nervous as well -- kelly and brenda are about to have their fight. over dylan. i hate it when best friends debunk.

Surmounter, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 01:59 (eighteen years ago)

David's dad couldn't keep his pants zipped up (choice line, "I have trouble/problems with monogamy")
god, Mel was so gross. I remember thinking his fidelity problems stretched credibility--who were all these women willing to sleep with him?

Women who loved mullets and dentrifices?

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 02:02 (eighteen years ago)

mullets and dentrifices

There's a blog title.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 02:02 (eighteen years ago)

Season Three is probably the best acted and most realistic, if you care about that sort of thing. It sucks that the DVD couldn't license the original music; I miss hearing "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover" blasting while Kelly and Dylan are snuggling in front of a campfire, both thinking about their friend in Paris making googly eyes at Dean Cain.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 02:03 (eighteen years ago)

Anyway, somebody explain to me how this new thing is a spinoff.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 02:04 (eighteen years ago)

He's highly intelligent, but with lingering behavioral issues.

lol I hate Freud.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 19 March 2008 02:05 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

I now have the explanation:

It's happening! It's REALLY happening!

The CW has confirmed that the spin-off of "Beverly Hills, 90210" will be on its fall lineup. As if there was ever a question, but we're excited anyway.

The contemporary version of the 1990s FOX hit will focus on a family that reflects today's celebrity culture: a grandmother (Jessica Walter) who was a huge star in the 1970s and now likes to hit the bottle a bit; her son, who is the new Beverly Hills high school principal, and his ex-Olympic athlete of a wife (Lori Loughlin) who are both thirtysomething; and their two teenagers. The daughter (Shenae Grimes) is -- what else? -- an aspiring actress. The son is a brainiac with behavioral issues.

But it wouldn't be possible to have a spin-off without a visit from the ghosts of West Beverly High past. Jennie Garth will be reprising her role as Kelly Taylor. Only this time, she's a guidance counselor at her alma mater. The role is recurring.

The rest of the cast includes Ryan Eggold, AnnaLynne McCord, Dustin Milligan, Michael Steger, Jessica Stroup and Tristan Wilds.

Asked what the title of the show will be, a CW spokesman said: "90210." We'll take it!

SCANDAL!:

The question is whether this is a really smart or really stupid decision by The CW's boss Dawn Ostroff. I'm told a contract controversy is preventing Tori Spelling from joining that so-called "edgy, contemporary spin-off" of the '90s hit 90210 on the network this fall as planned. Insiders tell me that Tori was hired to reprise her role as fashion boutique owner Donna Martin for just "$10,000-$20,000" per episode. But then Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty were signed for "$35,000-$50,000" a show. When Tori found out her former co-stars were getting paid way more than she was, she got pissed and demanded equal pay. But the network suits have refused. So now my sources tell me that Tori has pulled out of the series, which premieres with a 2-hour special on September 2nd. "She thought she deserved parity, and she's got a point," an insider explained to me.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 11 August 2008 18:35 (seventeen years ago)

i kind of hated donna and was mad that i might be associated with her since we shared the same last name but these days im kind of in love with tori spelling.
