tram looks older/less round/bigger windows than the iconic Tatra models I've seen

StanM, Friday, 28 May 2021 07:12 (five years ago)

StanM, Friday, 28 May 2021 07:15 (five years ago)

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Friday, 28 May 2021 07:22 (five years ago)

I think it's Valery Zolotukhin, but haven't found the photo yet

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Friday, 28 May 2021 07:29 (five years ago)

I think it is Valery also

That was pretty quick from the exterior, maybe I should have left it a while on the interior

cherry blossom, Friday, 28 May 2021 07:34 (five years ago)

It's in the Altai State Theatre for Children:

No idea who the guy is but the building in the picture does have onion domes!

looks like a match with other photos of Valeri I've found

I'm not so into setting these so anyone else feel free to go ahead

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Friday, 28 May 2021 07:45 (five years ago)

from Russian Wikipedia:

“Since 2003, he was the artistic director of the State Youth Theater of Altai.”

Long Tall Arsetee & the Shaker Intros (breastcrawl), Friday, 28 May 2021 07:53 (five years ago)

there WAS a dome! I sit corrected

StanM, Friday, 28 May 2021 08:01 (five years ago)

can’t find the portrait either, but he was most definitely a scarf guy!

this still (from a play, I assume) matches the series of pics on the right wall:

glad this was sorted right out of the trolley gate, the research would have ruined my working day

First gut feeling without peering too closely: Germany, Austria or Czech Republic

Zelda Zonk, Sunday, 6 June 2021 12:31 (five years ago)

I got nothing - other than it feels European indeed

StanM, Sunday, 6 June 2021 20:21 (five years ago)

Gonna open the bidding with Vienna, but I'm not 100% convinced.

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Sunday, 6 June 2021 21:25 (five years ago)

does not feel like Czech Republic at all to me

A viking of frowns, (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 6 June 2021 21:35 (five years ago)

buildings are all the same, looks like an upmarket council estate.

A viking of frowns, (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 6 June 2021 21:37 (five years ago)

... or a section of a city that had to be rebuilt quickly after being destroyed in a war?

StanM, Sunday, 6 June 2021 22:46 (five years ago)

The buildings have chimneys, which, unless they're a postmodern flourish, means they couldn't be more recent than the 50s and are more likely to be older. They look a bit like the housing estates built in Vienna in the 1920s, and the river looks like it could be the Danube Canal, but I can't see any bridges over the Danube Canal that look like that steel thing in the background.

Zelda Zonk, Monday, 7 June 2021 04:22 (five years ago)

Germany and Poland clearly have too many cities on rivers. Something has to be done about this imho.

StanM, Monday, 7 June 2021 09:28 (five years ago)

I want to say Warsaw, but I don't think I'm correct.

heyy nineteen, that's john belushi (the table is the table), Monday, 7 June 2021 15:08 (five years ago)

maybe this is completely wrong to the right of that first lamp post there's a christmas decoration and then four white signs with their pole behind them - a bit further on, there's a maroon sign also on the left of the road... making me wonder: are we driving on the left here?

StanM, Monday, 7 June 2021 15:43 (five years ago)

it doesn't feel like any of these countries though - so that's probably wrong. ( https://www.worldstandards.eu/cars/list-of-left-driving-countries/ )

StanM, Monday, 7 June 2021 15:45 (five years ago)

chimneys or not, don’t these housing blocks look quite new and modern (very much post-1950s), especially compared to the state of the asphalt road?

Long Tall Arsetee & the Shaker Intros (breastcrawl), Monday, 7 June 2021 16:33 (five years ago)

Protected bike lane makes me think Denmark.

o. nate, Monday, 7 June 2021 16:39 (five years ago)

are roads that badly-maintained in Denmark?

A viking of frowns, (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 7 June 2021 16:42 (five years ago)

that's somewhere it snows (steep roofs) and i agree on the slightly rundown mitteleuropa vibe. maybe leipzig or dresden or something? but white buildings feel swedish?

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Monday, 7 June 2021 17:08 (five years ago)

I don't know about Denmark but here in New Jersey those roads would be considered in pretty nice condition.

o. nate, Monday, 7 June 2021 18:06 (five years ago)

I guess presence of pothole-patching also more evidence for a climate where it snows in winter.

o. nate, Monday, 7 June 2021 18:08 (five years ago)

is the link broken?

You know, I was just looking at some bridges in Uppsala, Sweden and while none were the right one, it didn't feel *that* impossible either. So I'm going North for a couple of tries.

StanM, Tuesday, 8 June 2021 15:49 (five years ago)

Link is still there for me - though there were internet problems yesterday I think?

Weekend City II

cherry blossom, Wednesday, 9 June 2021 07:44 (five years ago)

RHD, only the back of signs but quite an odd bike symbol on the ground, I have a feeling that this could be former East Germany or even Poland.

A viking of frowns, (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 9 June 2021 07:52 (five years ago)

that rail on the nearest roof - to keep snow from falling off?

StanM, Wednesday, 9 June 2021 13:40 (five years ago)

What are those weird-looking trees in the courtyard at the far right of the picture?
