Got a bit of a technical query! Does anyone know a resource to find out how much government grants to particular councils have changed? Particularly post Labour.

Chewshabadoo, Saturday, 22 May 2021 20:30 (five years ago)

that is an interesting question. I seem to recall under May that bankrupt Tory-run Northamptonshire council received a very "cheeky" bailout and that seemed like an outrageous pork barrel handout at the time. Now every time I pass through Batley I'm looking up to see if money is getting dropped from helicopters.

calzino, Saturday, 22 May 2021 21:06 (five years ago)

i think lbhf had a note on their website or in the recent council tax leaflet about the change in theirs.

The sage report snuck out tonight seems all kinds of bad news, especially if you haven’t had the second (or any) jab

After reports from @guardian that no.10 blocked @PHE_uk release of B.1.617.2 schools data, @PHE_uk has now released their technical report on variants at 11pm on a Saturday - this still doesn't seem to have data on schools (!), but what it does have looks seriously worrying. 🧵

Fair chance 21st June is delayed by a month?

Hancock on the news this morning saying it's nothing to worry about (if you've had two jabs). which makes me worry.

this is an absolute disgrace, and a measure of the man.

lol, even a former barrister in his constituency is saying Kieth is a clueless cunt!

calzino, Sunday, 23 May 2021 09:53 (five years ago)

does he just want be hated by absolutely everyone? Even some of the worst right-wing Labour know which side to take in constituency matters, if not out of common decency out of career self-preservation. I think he needs help tbh.

whole lot of "extremism on both sides" from the usual on social media

Left, Sunday, 23 May 2021 15:31 (five years ago)

i'm seeing some condemnation of their racism and islamophobia from the moderate racists/islamophobes but it's a sign of how fucked things are that their antisemitism doesn't even seem to register to people, not even many anti-racist types - because they're "pro-israel" which is all that matters

Left, Sunday, 23 May 2021 15:45 (five years ago)

you could call it churchillian antisemitism, it's so embedded in the UK mainstream it might as well be invisible

Cummings is now about 50 tweets into trying to distance himself from 2020 gov policy over the last few days

1/ Covid… Summary evidence on lockdowns. For UK political pundits obsessed with spreading nonsense on Sweden/lockdowns, cf. SW econ did a bit WORSE than Denmark which locked down, AND far more deaths in Sweden: https://t.co/A9TV9oRGHU

nashwan, Sunday, 23 May 2021 16:16 (five years ago)

I could have sworn he was quoted as saying something like (in Feb'20): we'll protect the economy and too bad if some old people die.

calzino, Sunday, 23 May 2021 16:23 (five years ago)

Cummings has the most unreadable writing style - hectoring, pedantic and unfocused. I gave up on that after about five tweets and switched to the L33 R!gby Foundation tweet below it for the lols. That's just the way it is when you're Galaxy Brain #1 though I guess.

I see they've written off Batley then. is the heavy woollen nazi Halloran standing? not seen owt yet.

calzino, Sunday, 23 May 2021 17:41 (five years ago)

yeah i was just reading that, its pretty grim. its like they're just crafting the polly toynbee apologia rather than the campaign

plax (ico), Sunday, 23 May 2021 17:48 (five years ago)

tbf on Kim she isn't like most Labour politicians - she talks empty platitudinous drivel all of the time rather than in the 70-80% range!

calzino, Sunday, 23 May 2021 18:40 (five years ago)

I saw one not very *fact-checked* comment that she has admitted voting Tory in the past, wouldn't surprise me in the least if it was true though.

calzino, Sunday, 23 May 2021 22:34 (five years ago)

Batley is an area that needs serious political solutions and not opportunistic morons or bullshit slogans that don't mean shit.

calzino, Sunday, 23 May 2021 22:42 (five years ago)

this is something that has on a local level, been driving me insane for years tbh. Jo Cox was a legitimate concernist and an ambitious Labour MP of the right of the party who sadly got murdered. But still was a complete waste of fucking space. it's like when I heard Wes has contracted cancer. I felt genuinely very sad to hear that news, but still think politically he is a complete fucking waste of space. But christ I really wouldn't wish death on anyone - well actually might actually need to track that back a bit but y'know

calzino, Sunday, 23 May 2021 22:53 (five years ago)

like as if Kieth would put a dilettante candidate up against a solid Tory motherfucker.. just because he loves grassroots candidates and that is how is how he always rolls ..yeah not cynical at all.

calzino, Sunday, 23 May 2021 23:08 (five years ago)

cynical and desperate

calzino, Sunday, 23 May 2021 23:08 (five years ago)

Once on Look North she was suggesting her sister would still be alive if all these left-wing extremists didn't keep goading fascists into being even bigger fascists. She really is thick as pigshit, but happy for the work.

I'm still puzzling over this one!

calzino, Sunday, 23 May 2021 23:43 (five years ago)

No Dewsbury Moor, Ouzellwell or Chickenley estates no cred tbf. Listing most of the middle class parts is why Kieth likes you so much!

calzino, Sunday, 23 May 2021 23:47 (five years ago)

sorry I meant to say middle class WHITE parts

calzino, Sunday, 23 May 2021 23:49 (five years ago)

these are all new areas to Rentoul of course, his idea of "local" stretches back to when the Roman armies left

calzino, Sunday, 23 May 2021 23:59 (five years ago)

Blimey, she's lived in a lot of places.

Anyway, seems a soft touch candidate, "vote for the victims sister or you are a swine"

None of this is a crit of Kim, clearly she's distressed still.

But. Wholly opportunistic for Starmer, so if she loses its not his fault.
