ugh that is so pass-agg it makes me feel guilty for never knowing exactly what i want out of a relationship right away (or ever really)

agreed. that meme, like a lot of memes, reveals a simplistic view of human nature and relationships.

treeship., Tuesday, 25 May 2021 01:43 (five years ago)

this is the power of memes, they are simple. you see it, you feel something, you share it, the virus spreads.

there should be a thraed of deep memes which require painstaking consideration.

cat, Tuesday, 25 May 2021 01:59 (five years ago)

i ain't making it tho because lol

the best memes are non sequiturs that create little gaps in your brain smoothing your path into early onset alzheimer's, imo

"no one can destroy a person" is somehow one of the craziest statements I've ever read

Rust is not the process of iron destroying itself; oxygen is destroying the iron through oxidation.

Ban oxygen

Rust is not the process of iron destroying itself; oxygen is destroying the iron through oxidation.

It takes two (elements) to tango (oxidise), e.g. aluminium is much smarter & forms a clear impermeable oxide, protecting the metal from further damage.

I was born anxious, here's how to do it. (ledge), Sunday, 30 May 2021 15:34 (five years ago)

no one can destroy the spaniards but the tango.

sounds like the makings of an incredibly dull story

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Friday, 16 July 2021 15:10 (four years ago)

I have bad news for that person about non-modern media, unless they mean "modern" in the way historians do and they're talking about Othello and Madame Bovary

rob, Friday, 16 July 2021 15:13 (four years ago)

I feel like this is actually..... how relationships are typically presented in any novel/TV show/movie where "a crisis in the relationship" isn't the plot?

Guayaquil (eephus!), Friday, 16 July 2021 15:15 (four years ago)

I feel like some people literally just want a movie where everybody gets along and are good people and have fun and nothing really happens

making splashes at Dan Flashes (Neanderthal), Friday, 16 July 2021 15:47 (four years ago)

At his TIFF press conference in 1996, Godard said that's what he wanted from a film (minus the getting along, good people and having fun).

Halfway there but for you, Friday, 16 July 2021 15:50 (four years ago)

for instance, the In the Heights movie made some pretty serious changes to the plot from the original musical, cutting the entire frosty relationship between Benny (a Black character) and Kevin (a Hispanic character, whose daughter Benny wants to date). in the musical, Kevin doesn't think Benny is good enough for her and also doesn't want her to date someone who isn't Hispanic and tries to interfere, and it's a huge plot point. and they got rid of it entirely, the two characters are perfectly friendly.

one of my friends praised this decision, thrilled that there was no longer this 'ugliness'. i was like...they got rid of one of the biggest conflicts in the musical and ...that's a good thing?

getting really sick and tired of people "exposing" hypocritical conservative logic on social media. they don't give a solitary fuck that they're being hypocritical. they love the fact that they're being illogical because they love watching people twist themselves into pretzels trying to untangle their bullshit.

conservatives don't care that our founders wanted separation between church and state, they don't care about small government. shut the fuck up!!!

grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Friday, 3 September 2021 14:59 (four years ago)

guess i should provide an example. mainly i'm seeing people share screenshots of viral tweets like this one

News flash: If you ban mask mandates, outlaw abortions, dictate what educators can teach in schools, and stop people from voting, you're not the party of "limited government."

grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Friday, 3 September 2021 14:59 (four years ago)

yeah I get tired of that shit for that reason. at least share gif memes that are educational, and they do exist.

Duke Detain (Neanderthal), Friday, 3 September 2021 15:02 (four years ago)

yes pointing out conservative hypocrisy lost its utility like, a decade ago at least

global tetrahedron, Friday, 3 September 2021 15:31 (four years ago)

i always view conservative hypocrisy posts as entertainment for the type of people who share them and not a genuine attempt at arguing with conservatives

they never work because convincing someone they're being hypocritical relies on you getting them to admit that they said/believed/claimed/did/agreed with 2 separate things. it's difficult enough to get a conservative to commit ideologically to one thing. getting them to commit to two different things at the same time is nearly impossible.

, Friday, 3 September 2021 19:08 (four years ago)

i always view conservative hypocrisy posts as entertainment for the type of people who share them and not a genuine attempt at arguing with conservatives

i think one of the reasons why it bothers me is because it conveys a feeling of smug superiority while also drastically underestimating the damage this kind of worldview is capable of. it reassures people of their inherent correctness, and fortifies a false belief that the fact that they're correct means fuck all.

grove street (party) direction (voodoo chili), Friday, 3 September 2021 19:59 (four years ago)

fuck you spencer, there were 10 boxes and i was hungry and your metaphor is garbage, some people are anorexic and that's not exactly healthy now is it?

STOP MAKING POLITICS POINTS WITH PIZZA

Linda and Jodie Rocco (map), Saturday, 4 September 2021 21:36 (four years ago)

I'm not much of a Facebook user, but I've been finding myself going there more frequently just to look at sponsored or recommended content. The stuff I get is 50% music related and the other 50% is made up of weird art or food tricks, dudes doing crazy parkour or other extreme sports shit, and stuff like the craziest waterslide down the side of a Chinese mountain.

I'm not sure that this is healthy behavior, but I'm also not sure that it is inherently bad either.
