parenthetically yours, (Karl Malone), Saturday, 15 May 2021 03:33 (five years ago)

so if the “m” word is “mouse”, I guess by analogy he thinks the “n” word is just a harmless description?

assert (MatthewK), Saturday, 15 May 2021 11:13 (five years ago)

at a guess he would pull out the old "it just means black!" argument, though he has so far not been dumb enough to say that out loud.

A viking of frowns, (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Saturday, 15 May 2021 11:30 (five years ago)

I’m starting to think this Ben Garrison guy is a very bad man!

Fuck yeah!

pomenitul, Saturday, 19 June 2021 22:42 (five years ago)

What year is this, though?

pomenitul, Saturday, 19 June 2021 22:43 (five years ago)

it's the long 50's

calzino, Saturday, 19 June 2021 23:09 (five years ago)

I've not done a comprehensive study on this, but I'm from a Catholic background and didn't know any contemporaries who weren't already either expert f/t masturbators or naughty little clumsy fumblers by our first sex education lessons. Given by an ex Jesuit missionary who told one of us to "mind our business" when we asked him if he was still a virgin!

calzino, Saturday, 19 June 2021 23:18 (five years ago)

Strange to say, the iconography of that cartoon is exactly backwards.

What's It All About, Althea? (Aimless), Saturday, 19 June 2021 23:29 (five years ago)

I just wanna have the "So climate change is...good?" conversation. Like, show your work, please.

but also fuck you (unperson), Monday, 5 July 2021 00:01 (four years ago)

I think the vibe is more that the people who are loudest about climate change being bad only 'really' care about it as a stick to beat white people with? It's not clear to me whether China is supposed to be white here.

Andrew Farrell, Monday, 5 July 2021 01:18 (four years ago)

A remarkable display of mental gymnastics.

I just wanna have the "So climate change is...good?" conversation. Like, show your work, please

Not trying to defend it in any way, but you only have to look to the US Senate to find this BS being promoted.

This white paper summarizes the views of the CO2 Coalition, a new and independent, non-profit organization that seeks to engage thought leaders, policy makers, and the public in an informed, dispassionate discussion of how our planet will be affected by CO2 released from the combustion of fossil fuel. Available scientific facts have persuaded Coalition members that additional CO2 will be a net benefit. Rather than immediately setting this document aside for promoting such a politically incorrect view, readers would do well to act on the ancient motto of Britain’s prestigious Royal Society—nullius in verba, “don’t take anyone’s word for it,” or more simply, “see for yourself.” [2015]

A "new and independent non-profit" which just happens to be heavily promoted by the biggest association of rent-seeking hucksters and overpaid grifters on the planet.

Here's the Canadian version of this –

How it started: https://financialpost.com/opinion/joe-oliver-heres-a-truth-few-dare-to-utter-canada-will-benefit-from-climate-change

How it's going: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/heat-wave-719-deaths-1.6088793

pomenitul, Monday, 5 July 2021 09:39 (four years ago)

Not too many mental gymnastics to get from climate change is bad to white people are bad— up until China's more recent rise, much of what has put us in the position we're in has been the result of extraction industries, industrial agriculture, and the accompanying racist hubris of Western colonial powers. Taken seriously, efforts to combat climate change are also efforts to combat the foundations upon which much of Western capitalism depends, and that means combatting white supremacy.

The cartoon is still stupid, though.

I hate to admit it, but this one made me laugh. Garrison has developed self-awareness.

think “Gypsy-Pixie” and misspelled. (We are a white family.) (forksclovetofu), Sunday, 1 August 2021 15:36 (four years ago)

i camped by a river all weekend in rural illinois, after camping on a river the previous weekend in covid-ville, missouri, near the ozarks. i overheard many dumb things on these rivers, many violent arguments between friends and family, and a shit-ton of "woke" jokes that always seemed to come up whenever our group floated by their party

Z_TBD (Karl Malone), Sunday, 1 August 2021 19:49 (four years ago)

their senses of humor are the worst. that cartoon above would make them shit their pants. but hey, when you're in the river

Z_TBD (Karl Malone), Sunday, 1 August 2021 19:49 (four years ago)

it also didn't do any good for my attempt to keep in mind that many of the people who don't get vaccinated have lots of good reasons for it and may be easily convinced with the right resources. that is true. but on rivers in the middle of nowhere, it is fucking hateful morons, floating around and shitting on themsevles

Haha coming here to post that. Oh such bad memories

Glower, Disruption & Pies (kingfish), Friday, 10 September 2021 15:35 (four years ago)

there is lots of predictable flag-fucking derangement/jingoistic bloodlust but at least Giuliani being lionised as a great leader is quite hilarious!

calzino, Friday, 10 September 2021 15:47 (four years ago)

It actually raised some very visceral memories of screaming matches with my father that occurred that autumn.

Many of those are Batshit centrist editorial cartoons. This shit was not limited to the self avowedly right wing.
