Yes, we're continuing to do very well. And this weekend is definitely the busiest outdoors we've had in months.

So for next Sunday the 16th, what's a good suggestion as to where to meet? Shall we try and keep it casual like a park hang or do we want to try for something more formal w/r/t outdoor seating etc? In terms of time, I'd say any time from early afternoon on is great.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 8 May 2021 22:39 (five years ago)

Somewhere outdoors where you can get a beer would suit me. Not sure if my wife and son will join us or not next Sunday but hanging out with them in the Portland waterfront park with the food stalls and pint of Mo Haze IC was a very nice start to the vacation so maybe something like that if it exists?

I have a couple of ideas -- while the Ferry Building is again almost blatantly obvious as a choice simply because you're in Embarcadero Center, would rather defer to lukas (and/or sarahell, if you're in?) to make another call if they feel one's warranted.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 9 May 2021 14:47 (five years ago)

the Hyatt lobby also features in Mel Brooks' "High Anxiety"

akm, Sunday, 9 May 2021 15:28 (five years ago)

Washington Square Park in North Beach is about a fifteen minute walk from Embarcadero Center and is a pretty nice place to hang out, that would be my pick.

lukas, Sunday, 9 May 2021 18:22 (five years ago)

Sounds good to me!

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 9 May 2021 20:08 (five years ago)

And me!

Alba, Tuesday, 11 May 2021 02:41 (five years ago)

Sounds like a plan. Let's lock in details later; hell if we even wanted to picnic lunch it there's a slew of spots to choose from right there. Otherwise bring some beers to split?

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 11 May 2021 04:19 (five years ago)

sure. I'll probably order some pizza from Tony's too.

lukas, Tuesday, 11 May 2021 04:32 (five years ago)

So it's almost here -- should we just aim for noon Sunday? Any particular spot in the park? I can bring some beer and cider -- maybe some 21st Amendment and Golden State retrospectively, though I might see if I can get a Cellarmaker growler or something. Me, Lukas, Alba and family, anyone else?

Ned Raggett, Friday, 14 May 2021 03:27 (five years ago)

Don't bring much for me to drink, I'll have a drink or two max.

If I got pizza from Tony's, would anyone eat some?

lukas, Friday, 14 May 2021 04:06 (five years ago)

Oh absolutely!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 14 May 2021 12:18 (five years ago)

We’d eat pizza (and contribute of course!). Just back on the internet after two days of-grid. Noon sounds good.

Alba, Saturday, 15 May 2021 18:32 (five years ago)

Hope the trip continues to go well! Do you have any particular beer or cider preference?

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 15 May 2021 19:14 (five years ago)

IPA or lager is what I usually drink but not too fussy!

Alba, Saturday, 15 May 2021 21:43 (five years ago)

Wife (and son!) not drinking

Alba, Saturday, 15 May 2021 21:44 (five years ago)

Okay sounds good!

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 15 May 2021 21:44 (five years ago)

So we're meeting at noon, which is when Tony's opens, and I don't think they take orders before they open, and Tony's is uh popular, so ... pack a granola bar, is what I am saying. We might be eating at 1.

lukas, Saturday, 15 May 2021 22:14 (five years ago)

Noted!

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 15 May 2021 23:47 (five years ago)

We’re here, and a little awed by the Hyatt atrium all right. On the pizza front, I don’t eat meat but do eat seafood, if that helps. I’ve also bought some cans of IPA. We’ll feed our son before as he usually eats at 11.30 or so.

Alba, Sunday, 16 May 2021 03:38 (five years ago)

Space-age luxe vibes somewhat weakened by Rixton’s ‘Me and My Broken Heart’ being piped across the place.

Alba, Sunday, 16 May 2021 03:43 (five years ago)

Not sure how big the park is but I’ll look out on this thread if either of you want to pinpoint a place to meet. This is what we look like in a cheesy selfie from a redwoods forest cable car, except I’ll be wearing glasses. I think I’ll recognize Ned!

Alba, Sunday, 16 May 2021 15:50 (five years ago)

You can't miss the hair

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 16 May 2021 17:19 (five years ago)

See everyone soonish. Non-meat pizza, check.

lukas, Sunday, 16 May 2021 17:48 (five years ago)

By the stand of trees in the middle of the park. Look for the pizza boxes.

lukas, Sunday, 16 May 2021 18:57 (five years ago)

Sounds good — about there!

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 16 May 2021 19:10 (five years ago)

Success! Today's park featured an ILX meetup, a tiff between a very large dog and a very small one, and a partnered acrobatic yoga class. Plus I got some life advice.

lukas, Sunday, 16 May 2021 21:31 (five years ago)

A damn good treat, we should do more of this. And the pizza was excellent.

Ned Raggett, Sunday, 16 May 2021 21:33 (five years ago)

Yes that was good. And the first time I’ve been to an ILX meetup in many years. Quality not quantity. Thanks for the excellent pizza, beer, company and travel advice.

Alba, Monday, 17 May 2021 04:27 (five years ago)

sorry I missed it. It was my second busiest work day of the year. Yesterday was the busiest.

sarahell, Tuesday, 18 May 2021 19:16 (five years ago)

Noise Pop are planning to be back next year and they've just made what they're calling Super Early Bird tickets for the whole week available for $99 -- think you have until tomorrow to get 'em.

The Gallery of Jewels in Noe is red-tagged and it looks like a car crashed into it. Anyone know what happened?

Why I'll take that.

four weeks pass...

With Fleet Week I'm not sure what the other parts of the city are experiencing, but on the north waterfront it's low fly-overs by the Blue Angels and various other stunt planes. They are so loud and close. It's unnerving

Dan S, Friday, 8 October 2021 23:01 (four years ago)

SFGate describes this weekend as "carmaggedon" - Giants/Dodgers game, preseason Warriors game, fleet week etc.

Andy the Grasshopper, Friday, 8 October 2021 23:04 (four years ago)

Everybody I know is complaining about Fleet Week, which is something I normally do, but this year it kind of feels like a sign of getting back to normal which comforts me. Still... glad I am in the east bay.

beard papa, Saturday, 9 October 2021 00:15 (four years ago)

This is the first year I can remember that the practice runs are even setting off car alarms.

svend, Saturday, 9 October 2021 02:58 (four years ago)

Aside from the nuisance factor, I’d guess the carbon footprint of all that tricky jet flying is probably close to that of the city of Berkeley for the day (maybe not including the pollution of all the commuters passing through Berkeley).

recovering internet addict/shitposter (viborg), Saturday, 9 October 2021 14:39 (four years ago)

I only am reminded of Fleet Week when other people are complaining about it. It blends in with the Oakland Airport flight paths and the regular police and news helicopter sounds, because I live near all the freeways

sarahell, Saturday, 9 October 2021 18:35 (four years ago)

Fleet Week is the worst.

I'm a sovereign jazz citizen (the table is the table), Saturday, 9 October 2021 18:56 (four years ago)

I will take Fleet Week over the (probably still to come) week where the temperature is over 90 degrees

sarahell, Saturday, 9 October 2021 19:41 (four years ago)

as well as the weeks leading up to and through 4th of July when it is shit exploding all the fucking time

Going to see DJ Seinfeld at the Independent tonight. Anyone else going?

DJI, Thursday, 9 December 2021 23:53 (four years ago)

everyone in the bay area should see the Joan Mitchell show at SFMOMA
