Marvel Cinematic Universe, Phase 4 & Beyond (and a chance to change your vote)

Ok, this episode was ... ok. Some stirring moments, some boilerplate moments, didn't care that much about the action, but I guess it needed to be included. I do wonder how much this series was impacted by covid. Maybe they initially wanted more episodes? Then again, six episodes sometimes seemed more than the show needed at times.

So these super soldiers, I've always wondered, apparently they can just die by being shot? Did that include Captain America and Bucky?

I think it's made pretty clear that if you have serum you're very strong but if you get shot in a vital region you die, you're not Wolverine.

Also I have never liked Sharon ever since she kissed Cap bc it seemed weirdly incestuous since she was his girlfriend’s like, granddaughter or whatever. So i feel vindicated slightly.

Sam is the man. But they gave Bucky some good moments too.

Didn't they say something like these shows are just supplemental to the movies, and if you just watch the movies you'll be able to keep up with the main plot of the MCU?

Because both shows so far have had some fairly fundamental changes to the MCU

Right? I'm sure it will help her finance one or two more pet projects, although I'm sure the Oscars will also help relieve that particular pressure.

I thought the ending was a disappointment, particularly given the Zemo speech about heroic supremacy, and the idea of Captain America as the bloodied face of empire.

Black Widow’s release date was changed from May 7 to July 9, 2021 back in March. It’ll be shown in both theaters and Disney+.
Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings is coming out on September 23, 2021.
The Eternals, directed by recent Oscar winner Chloe Zhao, will premiere on November 5, 2021.
Spider-Man: No Way Home premieres on December 17, 2021. It’s sooner than the date in the original teaser, which mentioned it’d be coming on Christmas.
As previously announced, Thor: Love And Thunder premieres on February 11, 2022.
Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse Of Madness premieres on March 25, 2022. It was originally slated for November 6, 2020.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is still keeping the previously announced date of July 8, 2022. We still don’t have word on how the story continues after the death of Chadwick Boseman, so it’s a big surprise that it’s slated to come out next year. It’s especially interesting, considering Marvel Studios had no plans of digitally having the late actor reprise the role.
The Marvels premieres on November 11, 2022.
Paul Rudd reprises his role as Ant-Man in Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania, which premieres February 17, 2023.
The James Gunn-directed Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol. 3 premieres May 5, 2023.

I fundamentally disagree with that Pulliam-Moore piece’s conclusions about The Falcon and The Winter Soldier but a large part of that disagreement comes from passing familiarity with the source material. I think he 100% misread the US Agent origin story and I don’t know what Isaiah Bradley would have done in a more expanded role in the story other than add more Black suffering, which he’s already criticizing in the piece. Most of the criticism seems to be “none of these are as good as Get Out” which… okay? I agree, but also Get Out is a superlative piece of work that is better than most other movies and TV shows, so that doesn’t bother me.

Ah, okay, I thought The Marvels was something new but I guess it's just the updated title for the Captain Marvel sequel (apparently also featuring Monica Rambeau and, based on the typography of the title, possibly also Kamala Khan?).

She doesn't read as "good guy" regardless of context so it's weird that it would be interpreted that the whole deal Walker is signing up for is meant to be thought of as heroic

So the plan foe the next two years is three new properties up front and then SEVEN sequels?

More like two, since I wouldn't consider a Black Widow spin-off a "new property".

But lots of chances to introduce new characters and significant twists to the MCU (female Thor, Ms Marvel, to name just a few), so I don't think it's all that bleak.

There have been Loki comics but the plotline of the show looks like its own thing, built around his new status in the MCU.

I just watched episode 3 of F&WS, and what I found distracting to the point of ruining my enjoyment was the fact that Madripoor is supposed to be "In the Indonesian islands", yet every character was wearing like knee length trenchcoats and black leather onesies the whole time.

One was wearing a fur coat! In Indonesia!

I mean if we're talking about wearing something 'cool-looking' in a climate not suited for it, that ship sailed a loooong time ago:

But Roz's statements upthread (or was it Twitter?) about the whole choppiness of the Madripoor depiction are worth noting.

for the non-Marvel Zombies among you, Madripoor in the comics dates back to Claremont's mutant runs (most heavily in Wolverine's first solo book in the 90's) and was basically a blend of Caniff's "yellow peril" piers of Asian iniquity, Casablanca, Jabba's Palace and Blade Runner's LA. They probably shouldn't have gone to the well for this as source material in the first place as it is impossibly outdated and inherently problematic.

I am amused that thanks to Coronavirus, Phase 4 will feature a few years with 4 films, much as the previous phases had 1-, 2- and 3-film years.
