If this thing ever gets off the ground you can be sure most of the people criticizing it now will eventually be falling over backwards to get involved in it.

Authoritarian Steaks (Tom D.), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 15:19 (five years ago)

The criticisms of it, bar the constant membership, dont stack up if you were cheering anything that has happened in football the past few decades is the thing

flagpost fucking (darraghmac), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 15:36 (five years ago)

And spurs getting in obv

flagpost fucking (darraghmac), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 15:36 (five years ago)

So, according to the Deloitte Football Money League, Wolves are richer than Milan. As are Sheffield United, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Everton.

Authoritarian Steaks (Tom D.), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 16:01 (five years ago)

Its a careful blend of historical success, wealth, heritage and spurs

flagpost fucking (darraghmac), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 16:03 (five years ago)

tbf Wolves are richer than Milan precisely because of what 'has happened in football in the past few decades'.

Authoritarian Steaks (Tom D.), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 16:07 (five years ago)

Yep.

Separately, No 10 confirmed that ministers would consider cutting off support for breakaway clubs in areas such as work visas for overseas players and the policing of matches as a way to exert pressure.

The government seems to be realising that there isn't much they can do to stop this so they're looking at the remaining levers they could potentially pull. I don't think the visa one is remotely viable but policing would potentially be at their discretion.

Telling communities 'lol, we're not going to provide any police on match days because your local club has joined the super league' would be...interesting.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 16:19 (five years ago)

I mean it would make it easier for the clubs to just say ‘sorry legacy fans but it’s not actually safe for you if we play at home so our matches will now sadly have to be in Dubai’ which would be one less job for them to have to think about

crisp, Tuesday, 20 April 2021 16:43 (five years ago)

At least we've finally found out why they call them super spurs

building a hole (NickB), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 16:46 (five years ago)

I mean, fuck the superleague and all, but I'm getting really creeped out by the government's attitude here towards something they don't approve of in the cultural realm - it's not illegal but we'll make it so somehow, dammit. It aint going to be an approach limited to football breakaways either

The Red Wall expects nothing less.

"Don't think much of this uncompromising theatrical indictment of racism in modern britain... maybe lean on the local authority to shut down the theatre lol, use some health and safety shit"

maybe the beeple would be the times or between clark and hill (Bananaman Begins), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 16:56 (five years ago)

I thought Holloway talking about how they are disrespecting the memory of dead Prince Philip was going to be the best super league take from a manager, but there’s something so perfect about Brendan claiming that it’s actually all his fault:

“[Leicester’s success] has probably played a part in these developments. Our job was to disrupt the market. I always said ‘what defines the top six?’ Clearly it was money and I tried to disrupt that on the pitch.”

crisp, Tuesday, 20 April 2021 17:20 (five years ago)

Tbf Brendan's Leicester winning the Prem was a seismic shift

Call of Scampi: Slack Nephrops (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 17:25 (five years ago)

wait did he even reference leicester winning the league a couple of years before he arrived?

Never underestimate the ego of Brendan Rodgers.

Authoritarian Steaks (Tom D.), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 17:34 (five years ago)

Leicester not being a one-season wonder is almost as great an achievement tbf

imago, Tuesday, 20 April 2021 17:38 (five years ago)

Great

flagpost fucking (darraghmac), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 18:46 (five years ago)

Spurs will drop out within the hour, i guess. It’s dead in the water and I can’t imagine any of the remaining clubs don’t know it.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 18:47 (five years ago)

JPMorgan’s involvement was vetted by its internal reputation committee, which assesses high-profile and potentially controversial assignments, according to people briefed on the decision. But that committee didn’t fully expect the emotional reaction from sports fans that has flooded the airwaves around the world, these people added.

There hasn't been a rolling news story this fast moving since that failed coup in Turkey a few years back.

Authoritarian Steaks (Tom D.), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 18:54 (five years ago)

genuinely surprised by how fast this happened. guess i overestimated the competency of the 12 owners, and assumed they knew something we didn't.

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 18:57 (five years ago)

Hilarious. And after they’d put that “legacy fans” bit out there too.

Scamp Granada (gyac), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 18:59 (five years ago)

Can't say I'm displeased at Ed falling on his sword but it essentially means nothing while the Glazers remain

Number None, Tuesday, 20 April 2021 19:03 (five years ago)

City were apparently the last to join and were not properly on board until Sunday, if the initial reports were right. It might not be a huge surprise that they found it easy to back out.

Fundamentally they, and Chelsea, don’t particularly need the ability to elevate / secure revenue to compete with PSG. The other ten, arguably, do. Perez’ mistake might have been inviting them to join.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 19:04 (five years ago)

How did they not see this backlash coming?!

Joe Bombin (milo z), Tuesday, 20 April 2021 19:06 (five years ago)

Agnelli gone now too

Number None, Tuesday, 20 April 2021 19:06 (five years ago)

genius from city. torpedoing a new superleague for the next 10 yrs, weakening rivals leverage in uefa, ensuring madrid/barca remain a financial wreck thereby being in poll position for superstar players.

agnellij out

oscar bravo, Tuesday, 20 April 2021 19:09 (five years ago)
