Finding out that quite a few people read the relevant WIkipedia page before doing a 1DS. I guess this is common practice, don't really feel like doing it myself too much. Good thing for a smith to know, though.

Was going to ask, when you get your intraday updates does it give you a ny kind of list of what answers are being received?

My 1DS is Just Audio: Familiar Songs (May 3!). My previous 1DS's were Flops, Title Lines, and Apologies.

When your 1DS goes live you get a full running list throughout the day of all answers people gave that have something like 5 or more responses.

I always write my recaps up in advance off site.

I have only studied for a 1DS on one occasion - MTV Video Music Awards, and my scan of the Wikipedia page of notable events and winners of video of the year got me like 4 answers I otherwise would have missed. It felt kind of hollow though and I've never one it again.

That’s what I figured, thanks so much for confirming. Assuming that allows you to add scoring notes for the commissioner on the fly.

I guess when you write the recap offline you just add in the stats at the end and any comments about ease of play, congrats to winners, etc.

Feel like there's definitely a divide between people who deliberately study for 1DSes and MLs and those who don't. I guess I'm more interested testing what I already know than what I can recall after cramming.

Btw, just noticed that Chicago improv legend TJ J@g0d0wsk1 finished 46th in Improv. We both went 11/12 and missed the same question, but I did a better job with moneying.

Came to say I am getting crushed in both MLs. I wasn’t expecting to do well, just wanted to be one of the gang, not too mumped up but still.

I did improv in college (with Daily Show correspondent Jordan Klepper), took a few classes at iO about 12 years ago, and have had friends in the Chicago scene.

The first five answers all correspond to playing card rankings in descending order:
K (abbreviation for strikeout)
Q (first letter in quartermaster)
J (shape of candy cane)
10 (Hamilton is on the $10 bill)
9 (Ode to Joy = 9th Symphony)

I get it now that I saw the smith's recap, but there was absolutely no way I was going to figure that one out myself.

Ah! Somewhat fiendish, but not utterly impossible, I guess. I like the out-of-the-boxness of J for candy cane. Thanks!

That ML has been challenging but rewarding. American Revolution, on the other hand, might be the hardest ML I've ever played. I'm no American Revolution buff, but I'm interested enough in American history that I thought I might do a little better than I am. Feels like there are a LOT of YEKIOYD answers and not many alternative entry points.

lol i am dead last in the general knowledge quiz, not doing well!

I am getting crushed in both of those, but once in a while manage to eke out a win in GKPL. Think the best I have done in AmRev is a 0(0)-0(0) tie.

As someone who takes this stuff way too seriously, I'm glad I'm not doing any of the current MLs.

That said, I did really well in the New Year's 1DS, which is especially pleasing because it wasn't even on my radar till the day of.

Are you going to do the next two MLs that are queued up?

Just LGBT2. It's been a long time since I try to maintain literary pretensions, so probably wouldn't do well in 21st C Lit (ahem).

Ive somehow clawed my way to 2nd in puzzle league due to ridiculous luck in schedule. I face 1 and 3 this week tho, let's see how far that luck can stretch

I was fine with two but three did me in: On MD1 of 21st C Lit, I forgot to submit my answers for MD11 of Puzzle League.

Which effectively put me out of the running for the championship.

On another note, I am finding out it’s actually not bad to play along with a(n) ML that one is not registered in. No need to worry about wagering, for one thing.

Makes sense. I just noticed that I guy I recently became acquainted with seems to do every single 1DS. Seems to be somewhat excessive imho.

Waiting to see how I did on Greg's and a few others. Mine goes live tomorrow, I am a bit nervous.

The thing about doing a ton of 1DSes is that it gives additional information for your opponents on how to defend you.

Does it go into the statistics?

No, but the more dedicated defenders can click through to your profile and see your full 1DS history, which might feasibly help on certain questions.
