Also, let's not forget we've been pumped full of the cheap bloodclaat vaccine that no-one else will touch with a bargepole.

i am officially eligible for vaccine tomorrow, i think. getting an appointment is another thing.

The bludclaht vaccine that (possibly) affects 1 person in 600,000! Not bad odds, all told.

Ferguson today said (if it is in fact causal) it seems to be more of a risk in younger recipients - have to think it’s still less of a risk than Covid tho, which also causes clots & can have nasty chronic effects for the young if unlucky
― jammy mcnullity (wins), Monday, 5 April 2021 21:41 (five years ago)
i know i shouldn’t think this way but i’m like.... i got covid a year ago already, so should i really get The Clotter? i know i know

I did get pretty groggy today, like I was walking through molasses. Kids said I sounded weird reading to them. Now feel mostly ok though.

Gah. My wife and I both got the first shot on Saturday at different CVSs, with the second dose already prebooked for three weeks time. She never did the check-in on her phone, thinking the in-store check in would suffice. She was given her vaccine card when it was done. Then she got a text from them yesterday saying "because you missed or cancelled your appointment, we've cancelled your second dose appointment". She tried calling them yesterday and got stuck in call centre/hold hell and there are no appointments available online (I was up at midnight, 1am and 3am to check) to reschedule now. And it seems to be very hard to get a second dose at an NYC-run site, if you got your first dose outside their system.

bemidji walmart called me yesterday asking if i could come in any earlier than my appt time. i can't, and was enough to unnerve me about the long drive. friend with family there said sister was at that exact walmart yesterday and the pharmacy had to announce multiple times over PA that there were available vaccines before anyone took them up on it though

I'm guessing it's just psychological, but I feel weirdly much better than I've felt in a long time today. Maybe it's just mild depression lifting at the thought that I can start having more of a life again in a couple weeks/that there is light at the end of the tunnel. But I feel like my sinuses are clearer, I have more energy, I woke up feeling better than usual, etc.

The idea that I can go to my old climbing gym with my mask on this weekend and hug my mom *inside her house* has certainly lifted my spirits.
Also I got my hours at work reduced, so I feel a little bit more like I have a life again.

My mother says she finally managed to register via phone in Maryland. I also tried to register online for her; we'll see if anything comes of either.
I would like to see the following groups of people tried, and possibly executed, on pay-per-view TV:1) Scaremongers who don't know (or worse, don't care) that correlation is NOT necessarily causation.2) Public health experts who, when planning vaccine rollout, seem not to have considered that some percentage of the most vulnerable populations have limited or no Internet access.3) Governors or other authorities who played politics with vaccine distribution.
― Infanta Terrible (j.lu), Tuesday, 6 April 2021 16:35 (five years ago)
I suppose I should have taken that to a more political COVID thread?
oh good, now the UK is likely to stop first doses until July. Definitely feels like the wheels coming off, a bit.
― colette, Tuesday, 6 April 2021 16:44 (five years ago)

An expat buddy living in Amsterdam says there's basically no vaccine supply in the Netherlands, and they have no idea when they'll be offered... he claims the gov't haggled on prices a little too long and the drug companies took the business elsewhere. I think one of the vaccines is actually produced in Belgium, ironically.
― Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 6 April 2021 23:07 (five years ago)
TH, yes, that's the article I saw yesterday, the headline in particular is concerning, "Scientific committee forecasts drop to 2.7m jabs a week until July with little available for first doses"
― colette, Wednesday, 7 April 2021 07:57 (five years ago)
Andy the Grasshopper, there was a pretty good article about the EU's vaccine challenges in last week's Economist: https://www.economist.com/briefing/2021/03/31/why-the-eus-covid-19-vaccination-programme-went-wrong
― colette, Wednesday, 7 April 2021 07:58 (five years ago)
Update on our CVS hell: eventually managed to speak to someone at the store who just said "Oh yes, that's been happening to a few people who didn't check in online when they got here – just come in at the time your cancelled appointment was and we'll be sure to give her the second dose, no problem". I guess we just have to trust him.
― Alba, Wednesday, 7 April 2021 12:26 (five years ago)
Same reaction to the second Moderna shot as the first, only a bit worse: fever, aches, a few hours last night spent shivering then sweating under the blankets. Can't tell if it's passing fast or if that's just the Tylenol working.
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 7 April 2021 13:58 (five years ago)
BREAKINGMHRA there are still huge benefits of the vaccine in preventing Covid-19 and serious disease. However, due to a very small number of blood clots in younger people, those under the age of 30 will be offered Pfizer or Moderna instead— Carl Dinnen (@carldinnen) April 7, 2021

Increasingly feeling like I'm the only dumb chump waiting to get the vax when it's actually 'my turn' (whatever that even means at this point). Almost everyone I know has gotten at least their first jab by now whether they technically qualified for it or not (most did not). So now I've got the twinned anxieties of fearing that nothing will be available once IL opens to all adults and that I'm just absolutely positively for sure going to get the 'vid just before I get the needle in my arm.
Anyway, has anybody linked to this?: https://hidrb.com/ I guess it's set up to text you when and if there are leftover doses in your area. I'm signed up, we'll see if it does what it says on the tin.

Oh great. Why under 30's? Would be nice if we were all given that option considering the clots aren't age related. Instead I'll just have to roll the dice with the poxy oxford one.

have been thinking a lot about how we basically don't teach the history of vaccinations, and so a lot of the details about these (multiple competing vaccines, different efficacies, distrust) have been lived through in reruns

Finding it quite impressive that the same people who say no to masks and lockdowns because there's only a miniscule chance of dying from the virus are now up in arms because there's an even smaller chance of having an adverse reaction to the AZ vaccine
