I know second doses tend to have more side effects but having had my first Pfizer yesterday morning and zero adverse reaction I wonder if that bodes well for the second too.
― Alba, Sunday, 4 April 2021 21:52 (five years ago)
I had no side effects other than cottonmouth. There's no logic or trend I can point to.

(Side effects after last week's second Pfizer jab, that is).
Jeez, wish I didn't read this thread right after my second Pfizer

Had a half a Pfizer, didn’t feel anything, so I was like, I should take another one. Classic mistake

Did you get vaccinated, Tracer?

I got Moderna dose 1 this past Wednesday. Was fine until 4am Friday morning when I woke w horrific migraine-like headache and felt fatigued/nauseated for most of Friday. By Sat morning it had passed completely. Idk what it means for dose 2 but I’m not working Thurs/Fri atm so I can convalesce if I need to.
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Sunday, 4 April 2021 23:22 (five years ago)
My elderly parents had Pfizer and had no noteworthy side effects at all. Again idk what it means but even if you get the vax & feel supershitty , it’ll pass.
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Sunday, 4 April 2021 23:24 (five years ago)
I get dose 2 of Moderna on Tuesday. I had modest symptoms after the first dose, but that may be because I had antibodies already. In theory, or at least anecdotally, that would mean that there should be fewer side effects for dose 2, but I guess I'll find out.
My daughter had no side efforts from dose one of Pfizer aside from a sore arm.
― Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 4 April 2021 23:25 (five years ago)
i had dose one (pfizer) on monday and all day tuesday it felt like someone really went to town on my arm, and at some point in the afternoon i started getting a fuzzy headache and i thought "uh oh here we go" but it passed after an hour or so and by the next day my arm was fine
i am expecting dose 2 will knock me on my ass for the maximum amount of time

my missus with MS still doesn't know what vaccine she had because they never give her a card afterwards. But she fell on the the floor about 3 times in the health centre en-route to getting it so that might have distracted them. I presume it was Pfizer because that is what I got a couple of weeks before her at the same venue. The next day she was absolutely gone, struggling to even physically get of bed the next morning and slept all day.

Moderna before Pfizer, none the wiser
― longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Monday, 5 April 2021 00:04 (five years ago)
Yeah you don't really get to experiment and see what vaccine combo really suits you. I mean you'd think you'd get the choice. Cocktails even. What happens if you need booster jabs are you constantly stuck with the same thing you got the first time. You could be missing out on the jab experience of your lifetime. Something you were really compatible with.

Pfizer before Moderna, we tried to warn ya.
― nickn, Monday, 5 April 2021 05:44 (five years ago)
feel fine after dose 1 of moderna but had a mild allergic reaction about 45 minutes after - swollen throat, numb/tingling lips. nothing benadryl couldn't take care of, but the CDC says if you have a reaction within 4 hours you shouldn't get the second dose.
though i could still hypothetically get a J&J dose apparently
― ✖, Monday, 5 April 2021 06:01 (five years ago)
getting my shot in a couple of days, could be any of the 3 US vaccines depending on what they have that time, kinda hoping for J&J just for the downmarket instant gratification vibes
― buzza, Monday, 5 April 2021 07:41 (five years ago)
Do you wind up having to stick with the same vaccine that you got first. Like if you do need to get further jabs later do you have enforced brand loyalty. Like everybody who is reading this 6 months down the line can you let me know now if that is a thing. Hate to find out I've been frozen out of finding my ideal arm mate by the first one that came along.

Bob Wachter's thread from yesterday re fourth surge is worth a look at
1/ Covid (@UCSF) Chronicles, Day 383Perhaps the most confusing time since the start of the pandemic – its easy to be overwhelmed. I’ll try to make sense of some of the key trends, particularly the “4th surge” & vaccines vs variants. Bottom line: I’m still leaning optimistic.— Bob Wachter (@Bob_Wachter) April 4, 2021

had no side effects from pfizer dose number one, except for some very mild arm soreness. my wife was the same, just had some black and blue at the spot of injection.
― voodoo chili, Monday, 5 April 2021 16:29 (five years ago)
More good news. Pfizer has the six month update. *Zero* hospitalizations among the vaccinated vs. 32 among the placebo group (n=46,307). Also real life data from South Africa, where B.1.351 is dominant: zero cases of COVID among the vaccinated vs. nine in the placebo (n=800). pic.twitter.com/2mLOh4LlRN— zeynep tufekci (@zeynep) April 5, 2021

israel deaths (vs US and UK)
https://ourworldindata.org/explorers/coronavirus-data-explorer?zoomToSelection=true&time=40..latest&pickerSort=desc&pickerMetric=new_deaths_per_million&Metric=Confirmed+cases&Interval=7-day+rolling+average&Relative+to+Population=true&Align+outbreaks=false&country=USA~ISR~GBR
they're not actually that much lower than countries that are vaccinating slower, but cases fell a lot faster in israel than anywhere else. there are tons of confounding variables (e.g. level of community immunity before vaccination, etc.)

I have gone so far as to double-checking whether MN restricts vaccination to state residents or not, then called a clinic in Robbinsdale where a friend's mother works because my friend said they'd have a block of appointments open. I have an appointment scheduled for the 9th but it's extremely insane that I would need to travel halfway across the country to get vaccinated.

― the last unvaccinated motherfucker on earth (PBKR), Monday, 5 April 2021 17:50 (five years ago)
Basically all of this is extreme bullshit that is primarily just keeping me away from my children and at this point I'm going to do whatever I have to to shorten the amount of time I have to wait to see them, and even there I don't know if I can actually have them come to stay with me because the new variants appear to be spreading and they both have asthma.
― Dana Jel Pey (DJP), Monday, 5 April 2021 17:50 (five years ago)
Nothing yet. I've been offered appointments, but I'm waiting because I feel like other people need it more than me. I barely go out of the house, and when I do I'm masked up and stand as far away from other people as possible. I'm high-risk on paper because I have diabetes, but I'm low-risk because of my behavior and lifestyle. I'll get around to it eventually.
― but also fuck you (unperson), Monday, 5 April 2021 17:53 (five years ago)
really loving the recent trend of criticizing people for wanting people to wear masks still and accusing them of "not paying attention to the science," when both the CDC (as of February 2021) and many of the existing studies (as of January 2021) still recommend that you do that
― like, I’m eating an elephant head (katherine), Monday, 5 April 2021 17:53 (five years ago)
When the daily new case count is in the single digits, I'll unmask. Maybe. I really liked not catching a cold this winter!

Jon, let me know when you're ready; would love to get you out there.
Dan, sorry you've got to go to extremes to get a jab but happy that you have something lined up before the end of the week!
Unperson, don't do the "I feel like other people need it more than me" thing! Get it done while you can, as soon as you can and get it out of the way! You are part of the public health and it'll do you and us all good to get this taken care of!

Normally hate Stewart Lee’s columns (as a fan of him in general who just hates wacky newspaper columns) but he wrote an alright one recently which made the point that Johnson et al spent the whole pandemic fucking up royally & insisting it was inappropriate to make international comparisons, but as soon as something is going well relative to other places it’s suddenly ok - I wonder if the “lumpy” supply starts to put us on a comparable footing to our neighbour will it suddenly become inappropriate to have league tables again
