ignore the blue line (or something), Saturday, 3 April 2021 11:42 (five years ago)

Looks a lot like the Mumbles but not finding anything similar on street view

(the one with 3 L's) (Willl), Saturday, 3 April 2021 12:52 (five years ago)

those street lights make me think of somewhere posh, heritage-y, like richmond

It's not Newcastle, is it?

Madchen, Sunday, 4 April 2021 16:35 (five years ago)

London

Canon in Deez (silby), Sunday, 4 April 2021 16:36 (five years ago)

No wait, I take that back.

Madchen, Sunday, 4 April 2021 16:53 (five years ago)

Bristol?

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:00 (five years ago)

Bangor?

bulb after bulb, Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:06 (five years ago)

bulb after bulb out of nowhere with the correct answer, well played

ignore the blue line (or something), Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:10 (five years ago)

How did you do it?

ignore the blue line (or something), Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:10 (five years ago)

don't you remember the time we went to Bangor?

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:13 (five years ago)

ha.

Was thinking Ireland, so GISed ferris wheel Ireland, looking for the blue stanchions.

bulb after bulb, Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:13 (five years ago)

If you move forward in streetview that wheel disappears, guess it's not permanent. Thought I'd leave it in to make things easier after three days of increasingly sparse responses tho

ignore the blue line (or something), Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:18 (five years ago)

I have such a knowledge of Tesco petrol station architecture variations now.

nashwan, Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:30 (five years ago)

Feeling possibly somewhere in Wales

― cherry blossom, Friday, 2 April 2021 08:07

I don't get it! Bangor was one of the first tesco's I checked on streetview but it doesn't look like that

cherry blossom, Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:34 (five years ago)

This is Bangor in N Ireland

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:37 (five years ago)

They've put one there now as well?

cherry blossom, Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:40 (five years ago)

Hey, spare a thought for me. I was streetviewing N Irish Tesco petrol stations this morning, there are two of them, I checked one of them (the wrong one, as it turns out) but for some unaccountable reason skipped over the second.

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:42 (five years ago)

^ two in Bangor, I mean

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:43 (five years ago)

another. Bangor.

rob, Sunday, 4 April 2021 17:50 (five years ago)

It was meant to be: hadn't looked in on the thread in a few days and finished Great Granny Webster last night:

The Clandeboye Estate is a country estate located in Bangor, County Down, Northern Ireland, 12 miles (19 km) outside Belfast. . .

The estate is also the inspiration for Dunmartin Hall in the 1977 novel Great Granny Webster by Caroline Blackwood, who lived at the hall as a child.

(did not make this connection until after I found the ferris wheel, mind) great book!

lol, much appreciated

Blick, Bils & Blinky • Let's Skip The Shaker Intros (breastcrawl), Sunday, 4 April 2021 18:41 (five years ago)

I checked dozens of Tescos in Slovakia, Poland, Czechia and Hungary for this on Friday, started doing Ireland and N Ireland as well (on Saturday, I guess), but didn’t follow thru. There’s only so many Tesco stations a person can take in in one lifetime. I finally got a handle on navigating Streetview in the process, so it wasn’t all for nothing

Blick, Bils & Blinky • Let's Skip The Shaker Intros (breastcrawl), Sunday, 4 April 2021 18:46 (five years ago)

I'm still confused where the petrol station is

cherry blossom, Monday, 5 April 2021 08:24 (five years ago)

Where Old Belfast road meets Killeen Ave

Is this one of the many cities with extensive streetview coverage in Mexico that got referenced during the Salta guesses?

ignore the blue line (or something), Monday, 5 April 2021 10:26 (five years ago)

I thought it was a cat

cherry blossom, Monday, 5 April 2021 10:40 (five years ago)

Possibly....

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Monday, 5 April 2021 10:51 (five years ago)

The blue stripe is pretty unusual.

Canon in Deez (silby), Monday, 5 April 2021 19:22 (five years ago)

I thought it was a cat

I thought it was pokey the penguin.

Computers I can live with, I even dried them in the oven (ledge), Monday, 5 April 2021 20:05 (five years ago)

It’s a pothole. I have cropped out the local councillor pointing at it.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Monday, 5 April 2021 20:14 (five years ago)

Based on next to nothing - is it Leon?

nashwan, Monday, 5 April 2021 20:25 (five years ago)

It is not Leon.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Monday, 5 April 2021 20:26 (five years ago)

Ah got excited for a moment having clicked on a random street there (actualy after guessing Leon) and immediately seeing those same cubey trees and very similar buildings.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Monday, 5 April 2021 20:34 (five years ago)

I'm going to guess San Juan, Puerto Rico. I have noticed they like painting hazard paint on the edge of their pavements there.

calzino, Monday, 5 April 2021 20:40 (five years ago)

It’s not San Juan.

Well as I've got nothing else right now and a cursory search suggests some similarities and they're all incredibly dense to search I'm just gonna guess one that was mentioned - Mazatlan?

ignore the blue line (or something), Monday, 5 April 2021 21:26 (five years ago)

Yes, it’s Mazatlan.

I couldn’t resist posting the one city that actually does have a big blue line down the middle of the road.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Monday, 5 April 2021 21:28 (five years ago)

Haha I genuinely thought that was just the streetview line again. I got rewarded for laziness there, should really try and find the spot

i clicked around randomly and was suddenly confronted with a senor frog's lol

John Cooper of Christian rock band Skillet (map), Monday, 5 April 2021 21:53 (five years ago)

Wait what I was joking, is that a real blue stripe?!

Canon in Deez (silby), Monday, 5 April 2021 22:56 (five years ago)

Looks real!

I'm going to guess San Juan, Puerto Rico. I have noticed they like painting hazard paint on the edge of their pavements there.

― calzino, Monday, 5 April 2021

This was my guess too, or at least it was until I couldn't find it (and the old town part there seems pretty small)
