When I was creating my ballot I was constantly thinking “this would enrage morbs”

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 31 March 2021 19:22 (five years ago)

I am just going to rank the films of David lynch and send that in

jammy mcnullity (wins), Wednesday, 31 March 2021 19:29 (five years ago)

if this doesn't get 25 voters i'll change all my votes to french clown movies

wasdnuos (abanana), Wednesday, 31 March 2021 19:39 (five years ago)

Adoration of the Mogwai (Deflatormouse), Wednesday, 31 March 2021 20:32 (five years ago)

I could limit myself to movies with talking animals and animate objects.

Adoration of the Mogwai (Deflatormouse), Wednesday, 31 March 2021 20:55 (five years ago)

*and/or
let's not get carried away.

Adoration of the Mogwai (Deflatormouse), Wednesday, 31 March 2021 20:56 (five years ago)

My criteria were "would I sit down and rewatch this tonight?"

Andrew Farrell, Wednesday, 31 March 2021 21:35 (five years ago)

Just sent mine

Alba, Thursday, 1 April 2021 01:03 (five years ago)

i voted for whatever i have appreciated the most in the past and still adore now

davey, Thursday, 1 April 2021 05:10 (five years ago)

'fav vs best' has never been an issue for me bc the movies that i like are objectively the best

nobody like my rap (One Eye Open), Thursday, 1 April 2021 12:19 (five years ago)

it's never fav vs best, the choice is always fav vs "carefully edited list to boost moderately popular favs, avoid boosting consensus favs and abandon favs which nobody else will vote for" - I have gone for the first option, fairly sure that I will be the sole voter for 4 of the films in my top 5.

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 1 April 2021 13:32 (five years ago)

Is it cool if I fill every slot with Citizen Kane

You Can't Have the Woogie Without a Little Boogie (Old Lunch), Thursday, 1 April 2021 13:34 (five years ago)

I'm going to self-indulgently predict the rankings for my top 10 here

1. #85
2. DNP
3. DNP
4. DNP
5. DNP
6. #98
7. #17
8. DNP
9. #55
10. #26

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Thursday, 1 April 2021 13:40 (five years ago)

That would balance out all the #1 votes for Mank.

So out curiosity, what criteria are people using in putting ballots together? There's the old "favorite" vs. "best" conundrum, but also are folks deliberately aiming for, say, diversity across decades, nationalities, etc, or just, like, listing every Judd Apatow movie?

Its a mix: There has got to be one from France, Japan, Iran then I go to continents. I'll get an extra Euro, one from East Asia and China/India, one from Latin America, one from Africa. There isn't one that's good enough from Oceania.

US will get one but its the 'joker in the pack' (proper good but people might wince at it), one doc, one experimental film. No silents because I've not seen enough.

That's 11.

Shit gender balance rn.

The optimal prerequisite for being in a position to actually vote for it.

Still have some fantasy I am going to participate in this. Inspired by your personal rollout on social media.

Working in the POLL Mine (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 14 May 2021 03:27 (five years ago)

I'm not going to vote, but very much looking forward to the roll out.

Deicide at Chuck E. Cheese (PBKR), Friday, 14 May 2021 11:29 (five years ago)

I *think* I can do this weekend.

Working in the POLL Mine (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 14 May 2021 11:59 (five years ago)

in honor of Dr. Morbius, who was ILX's biggest fan of ballot polls and ILX movie taste
indeed

Working in the POLL Mine (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 14 May 2021 12:01 (five years ago)

it's your personal favourites, don't stress over it too much.

A viking of frowns, (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 14 May 2021 12:02 (five years ago)

Wouldn’t describe it as stress, exactly

Working in the POLL Mine (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 14 May 2021 13:14 (five years ago)

More like a fugue/rupture in which I couldn't actually recall what my favorites were anymore.

Working in the POLL Mine (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 14 May 2021 13:27 (five years ago)

Which I finally emerged from a few days ago.

Working in the POLL Mine (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 14 May 2021 13:28 (five years ago)

ill vote next week if this is still open

johnny crunch, Friday, 14 May 2021 13:33 (five years ago)

Sent. The ranked part, at least.

Working in the POLL Mine (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 14 May 2021 13:45 (five years ago)

Unbelievable the kind of stuff I had to leave out to get it down to 25.

Working in the POLL Mine (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 14 May 2021 21:37 (five years ago)

Don't forget you can list up to 100 runners-up (all equal weight).

i carry the torch for disco inauthenticity (Eric H.), Friday, 14 May 2021 21:46 (five years ago)

I didn't forget, but thanks for the reminder. Just didn't want to let that distract me from getting the top 25 in. Which I still want to tinker with, but won't :)

Working in the POLL Mine (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 14 May 2021 21:49 (five years ago)

i've never put a film list together and i don't know very much, but i'll send a ballot! somebody's gotta represent the doofus vote

parenthetically yours, (Karl Malone), Friday, 14 May 2021 21:54 (five years ago)

also, RE: "no, I don't know why pastebin flagged the list as NSFW", is it because of Warhol's Blow Job?

parenthetically yours, (Karl Malone), Friday, 14 May 2021 21:55 (five years ago)

I had a pastebin list of songs flagged as NSFW and it turned out it was due to the presence of "You're a Queer One" from the Carousel soundtrack.

A viking of frowns, (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 14 May 2021 22:03 (five years ago)

Almost got to my hundred unranked.

Working in the POLL Mine (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 14 May 2021 22:33 (five years ago)

ballot submitted! so weird (but fun) to compare the virtues of Stalker vs Jurassic Park

parenthetically yours, (Karl Malone), Friday, 14 May 2021 22:47 (five years ago)

the zone: when you gotta go, you gotta go

imago, Friday, 14 May 2021 23:04 (five years ago)

I have seen some jurassic park fan theories which go some way to bridging this gap

A viking of frowns, (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 14 May 2021 23:07 (five years ago)

a couple of things i would have voted for weren't nominated, but that's my fault!

house (Nobuhiko Ôbayashi, 1977)
downfall (Oliver Hirschbiegel, 2004)

parenthetically yours, (Karl Malone), Friday, 14 May 2021 23:15 (five years ago)

House is there as Hausu, it'll be in my unranked 100

ignore the blue line (or something), Friday, 14 May 2021 23:19 (five years ago)

oh shit! thank you! I will send an update to Eric and hope that it can count. I saw it for the first time recently and was blown away

parenthetically yours, (Karl Malone), Friday, 14 May 2021 23:23 (five years ago)

you can also vote for stuff that wasn't nominated

A viking of frowns, (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Friday, 14 May 2021 23:24 (five years ago)

and I don't know if it's inappropriate or unethical, but an illegal late voting-period shoutout to Hausu/House (1977), which is so cool

parenthetically yours, (Karl Malone), Friday, 14 May 2021 23:27 (five years ago)
