Not Plymouth.

Melchester

《Myst1kOblivi0n》 (jim in vancouver), Monday, 29 March 2021 21:39 (five years ago)

Exeter is my last guess.

calzino, Monday, 29 March 2021 21:51 (five years ago)

I'm going to be embarrassed if it turns out to be Exeter but I don't think it is it's not just that I don't recognise either shot ,it's that I'd expect to see some evidence of the red Devon stone somewhere if it was.

My guess is Chichester, although I thought I recognised a roundabout and I can't place it on the streetview.

Tim, Monday, 29 March 2021 22:16 (five years ago)

Haha and I see you've already ruled Chichester out.

Tim, Monday, 29 March 2021 22:26 (five years ago)

I once spent a night wondering around Exeter and sleeping in the bus station after missing the last northbound national express coach on a sunday afternoon about 20 odd years ago. But usually I've just passed through on a train en-route to Newquay. So I don't claim to know the place - just a wild guess.

calzino, Monday, 29 March 2021 22:29 (five years ago)

I thought I was being clever with Klagenfurt but it's shit town uk that's stumped us all

or something, Monday, 29 March 2021 22:29 (five years ago)

I wonder if this is an old pic and the petrol garage switched companies - feel like I've google every southern city + Shell by a motorway/dual carriageway and no match

nashwan, Monday, 29 March 2021 22:35 (five years ago)

Same here

or something, Monday, 29 March 2021 22:41 (five years ago)

I've tried "virgin media" as well

or something, Monday, 29 March 2021 22:42 (five years ago)

I note that Guildford and Milton Keynes are missing from the map of cities above. Haven’t made either fit but maybe others are missing? Or maybe I’m not good at making things fit.

Tim, Monday, 29 March 2021 23:03 (five years ago)

They're not cities

or something, Monday, 29 March 2021 23:07 (five years ago)

Churchill Way W

Got it, Salisbury

or something, Monday, 29 March 2021 23:09 (five years ago)

ha I did see that one but dismissed it foolishly

nashwan, Monday, 29 March 2021 23:17 (five years ago)

I couldn't see any Russian agents at the Shell cashpoint

calzino, Monday, 29 March 2021 23:22 (five years ago)

I somehow expected Salisbury to look better than that. But I suppose nice photos aren't what the thread is about. I've almost certainly been in Salisbury at some point.

Duncan Disorderly (Tom D.), Monday, 29 March 2021 23:40 (five years ago)

Difficult one, I felt like something would emerge from the image but nothing did and I didn't have a clue. Then cities were being whittled down through collective trial and error at a rapid pace and it still seemed to elude everyone even as the number of available cities dwindled!

kudos on finding the exact spot, still. Even with the process of elimination I was still nowhere near

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 03:07 (five years ago)

Salisbury it is, well done. jim in vancouver may have got it before but he gave Hardy's name for reasons beat known to himself.

Is this photo taken at the start of a car race?

Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 09:39 (five years ago)

Not as far as I'm aware

or something, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 09:40 (five years ago)

It's a serendipitous streetview guess the city moment

or something, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 09:42 (five years ago)

Getting a South America vibe, but not much more than that yet

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 09:42 (five years ago)

it looks like the inner suburb of copenhagen where i lived when i studied abroad. somewhere in amager.

treeship., Tuesday, 30 March 2021 09:43 (five years ago)

there aren't leaves on the trees, so i think it's a temperate or cold climate. those terracotta roofs and the small cars seem northern european. i don't see a bike lane though so it's likely not in denmark.

treeship., Tuesday, 30 March 2021 09:44 (five years ago)

Looks Eastern European to me

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 09:45 (five years ago)

Feels a little too dusty mountainous for Denmark

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 09:46 (five years ago)

Pristina?

joni mitchell jarre (anagram), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 09:50 (five years ago)

Googling blue line road markings threw up possibly the worst pun ever: https://www.theobserver.com/2017/01/blue-lines-matter/

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 09:59 (five years ago)

Ooft

or something, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 10:04 (five years ago)

Not Copenhagen or Pristina btw

or something, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 10:08 (five years ago)

big fat ugly raised steel wired armoured cables on wooden poles rather than sunk (and with a scruffy loop left hanging there) suggests nobody loves this place!

calzino, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 10:17 (five years ago)

Matazlan?

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 10:23 (five years ago)

Or Mazatlan, even.

Scampo di tutti i Scampi (ShariVari), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 10:24 (five years ago)

Definitely feeling Mexico for this (but also feeling Brazil hmm)

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 10:33 (five years ago)

Not Mazatlan

or something, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 10:54 (five years ago)

Block of flats is confusing me. Looks sort of eastern European but on the other hand green shutters feels Latin

Zelda Zonk, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 11:02 (five years ago)

What do we think the smelting looking building with the chimneys is on the left? Behind the little building that might be a street church

cherry blossom, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 11:07 (five years ago)

perhaps they don't bury cables or build too high because it is in a seismic zone that frequently has earthquakes? god knows somewhere in Chile?

calzino, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 11:08 (five years ago)

There seem to be mountains in the background too, though I have no purchase in this game right now, just mentioning it.

it's like edging for your mind (the table is the table), Tuesday, 30 March 2021 15:17 (five years ago)

the unburied cables basically rules out western europe.

there might be an earthquake connection but generally speaking buried cables are a wealth thing even in earthquake zones. you can see the rich neighborhoods of LA from space becuase if you can see tree cover then you're looking at a neighborhood that could afford to bury. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2003-feb-09-re-pole9-story.html

Japan?

StanM, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 17:20 (five years ago)

Japan isn't a city

or something, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 17:31 (five years ago)

(But no, not Japan. I'll give you that one)

or something, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 17:32 (five years ago)

San Felipe ?

calzino, Tuesday, 30 March 2021 19:00 (five years ago)
