colette, Friday, 26 March 2021 15:02 (five years ago)

I was prepared to lie in order to see my kids sooner but then I realized that while children in general are less susceptible to this, they both have asthma and that even vaccinated the information I've found to date on whether you can still get someone else sick who hasn't been vaccinated has not been conclusive.

Dana Jel Pey (DJP), Friday, 26 March 2021 15:28 (five years ago)

second round of under 16 testing is happening now so hopefully that'll speed up the timetable for you

as it happens KK is giving a free doughnut to antivaxers too:
https://www.grubstreet.com/2021/03/how-to-get-free-krispy-kreme-doughnuts.html

Choosing to receive the vaccine is a highly personal decision,” the company’s small print explains. “If you have made the personal decision to not receive the COVID vaccine, please visit us on Mondays, 3/29/21 – 5/24/21, to receive a free Original Glazed® doughnut and a medium brewed coffee to get your week off to a good start.”

(It's secretly a vaccine-filled donut, shhh.)

You Can't Have the Woogie Without a Little Boogie (Old Lunch), Friday, 26 March 2021 16:04 (five years ago)

In this case “vaccine” is a euphemism for “poop”

Dana Jel Pey (DJP), Friday, 26 March 2021 16:05 (five years ago)

It really is the most spineless form of 'w-w-well, we don't want to offend any of our valued customers!' equivocating bullshit. 'One free donut to everyone participating in this anti-fascist rally! But we understand that opposing fascism is a difficult choice, so also one free donut to everyone decked out in full SS regalia.'

You Can't Have the Woogie Without a Little Boogie (Old Lunch), Friday, 26 March 2021 16:26 (five years ago)

I don't know why I'd expect a corporation to take a (righteous) moral stance on any issue.

And also, yes, I recognize the valid reasons why certain people won't or can't vaccinate. But something tells me Krispy Kreme's stance isn't that nuanced.

You Can't Have the Woogie Without a Little Boogie (Old Lunch), Friday, 26 March 2021 16:28 (five years ago)

Tempted to agree with that OL, but at the same time I'm hoping this keeps their employees from having anti-vax, anti-mask blowhards from indignantly rage-screaming in their faces.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 26 March 2021 16:28 (five years ago)

Meaning, yes, I'd wish they'd stick to their guns, but at the same time it's the underpaid people manning their stores that are going to suffer from the ragey "where's mah donut" crowd.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 26 March 2021 16:29 (five years ago)

This is strictly a legal "if you offer something, you must offer it to everyone" thing AFAICT; this is the same reason why all sweepstakes have "No purchase necessary" disclaimers on them.

Dana Jel Pey (DJP), Friday, 26 March 2021 16:33 (five years ago)

oh right, thanks

I'd been looking at some of these, yeah. Driving more than about an hour from the cities really isn't an option for me, but there was a ton of availability at metro Walgreens early this morning and the site crashed for me as I was about sign up. Hopefully that's the case going forward and I just need to get up earlier to schedule.

xpost - there's a Minneapolis Vaccine Hunters group on FB that's pretty helpful

Cool that pandemic vaccinations are basically being run like a PlayStation launch

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Friday, 26 March 2021 16:42 (five years ago)

xpost yeah, there are a ton of appointments here next week. My wife got one, working on getting my daughter one right now.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 March 2021 16:46 (five years ago)

It'd be pretty cool if the Walgreens website would stop telling that I need to fill out the profile information that I've already filled out before I can proceed to making an appointment. Doubly cool that the state of public health depends upon the efficacy of their web dev team.

You Can't Have the Woogie Without a Little Boogie (Old Lunch), Friday, 26 March 2021 16:59 (five years ago)

^^^that's what it did to me this morning, right before it crashed

underminer of twenty years of excellent contribution to this borad (dan m), Friday, 26 March 2021 17:02 (five years ago)

Ours sent my daughter an identity verification code that it then doesn't accept, been on hold forever to hopefully clear it up.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 March 2021 17:03 (five years ago)

Oh never mind, didn't realize they still weren't allowing appointments in the future.

You Can't Have the Woogie Without a Little Boogie (Old Lunch), Friday, 26 March 2021 17:13 (five years ago)

Note that I ended up having to clock out of work early...feel like I was hit by a bus. Going to lay in bed and read for the rest of the day

it's like edging for your mind (the table is the table), Friday, 26 March 2021 17:14 (five years ago)

the "profile not updated" thing happened with me here in AZ, was able to get it, though the absolute panic I felt at (temporarily) not being able to book my vaccine appointment because their record of my gender was blank (I'm trans) was AWFUL

still, getting vaxxed on Sunday, wooooo!

nicole, Friday, 26 March 2021 17:18 (five years ago)

Just scheduled Pfizer for Tuesday.

Hooray for everyone getting vaxxed! Mr. Jaq and I are eligible on Wednesday, very excited!

Jaq, Friday, 26 March 2021 17:28 (five years ago)

Surely the US buying and giving away vaccine worldwide complete with freezer trucks and American flag stickers would be the diplomatic coup of the millennium. A lay-up.

Canon in Deez (silby), Friday, 26 March 2021 17:31 (five years ago)

whoa change of plans instead of 5 weeks from now i have an appointment tomorrow holy shit, what do i wear

barely enough time to figure out the nearest krispy kreme location

Go nekkid, more options for shots.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 26 March 2021 17:48 (five years ago)

super happy to see this rollout response of people getting appointments here

G.A.G.S. (Gophers Against Getting Stuffed) (forksclovetofu), Friday, 26 March 2021 18:13 (five years ago)

Yep, going to sheepishly admit that my pessimism was proven incorrect. I snagged a first shot appointment for Wednesday through the massive Walgreen's drop.

Could have had one tomorrow, but I technically don't become eligible until Monday so I passed over that one.

G.A.G.S. (Gophers Against Getting Stuffed) (forksclovetofu), Friday, 26 March 2021 18:24 (five years ago)

I was honestly stunned to see how many open appointments there were, all over the city. I've yet to see even close to that many options at once, something must have shaken loose in the supply.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 26 March 2021 18:24 (five years ago)

Congrats John!

Or jon or jic sorry, anyway very happy for you!

𝔠𝔞𝔢𝔨 (caek), Friday, 26 March 2021 18:32 (five years ago)

I know you are all happy that I'm going to shut the fuck up about this. For the record, just want to acknowledge my privilege in having a job that will let me take off in the middle of the day and the ability to drive a little ways to get this and I hope that this supply increase is going to help people without those advantages also get more appts.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 26 March 2021 18:45 (five years ago)

Bracing for what it will be like on Monday when they open up vaccines to everyone in TX, hopefully not a total clusterfuck, cautiously optimistic.

I find the whole Krispy Kreme controversy extremely silly because they give away free donuts every single day and have done so for as long as I can remember.

Mr. Cacciatore (Moodles), Friday, 26 March 2021 18:59 (five years ago)

There are no Krispy Kreme outlets convenient to me. If they are only giving away free donuts to walk-ins, I demand they start delivering them, too!

Judge Roi Behan (Aimless), Friday, 26 March 2021 19:03 (five years ago)

It's OK for my teen to take an AP exam in person, right? It's going to be in a huge arena, lots of airspace, everyone masked obv. and I assume far apart. They offer it online but for the online exam you have to do the questions in order and you can't go back, it seems kinda bad.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Friday, 26 March 2021 19:05 (five years ago)

My hospital's system is urging me to make a vax appt but I tried every day from now until the end of April and none were available. Hmmmm.

Ima Gardener (in orbit), Friday, 26 March 2021 19:06 (five years ago)

I feel like when I took AP tests the seating was already pandemic compliant, to cut down on cheating.

Canon in Deez (silby), Friday, 26 March 2021 19:17 (five years ago)

So, um...are they just like not doing anything at vax sites to confirm whether someone meets eligibility requirements? Several of our neighbors (who afaik are all in the same 'middle-aged adult with no mitigating health circumstances' tier as me) were all like 'we're going to the United Center to get jabbed!' and I was all like 'uhh, guys, they've been real specific about the Chicago-only zip codes they're accepting and our suburban zip code is not one of them, I hate to see y'all make that trip just to be disappointed'. Buuuut then they totally got their jabs. Are these 'requirements' just a total bullshit smokescreen?

You Can't Have the Woogie Without a Little Boogie (Old Lunch), Friday, 26 March 2021 19:21 (five years ago)

I have absolutely no idea. I've seen reports saying that in some places absolutely no one asks, but I've also heard of people being turned away.

As far as the UC site goes, I was under the impression that all of that screening was done online when you signed up, so they could skip the whole screening process on site and speed things up. Sounds like they may have fudged the appointment sign up and no one asked on site, assuming they were all good if they made it that far.

soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 26 March 2021 19:28 (five years ago)

I think the eligibility requirements are just to discourage people from going, and they don't want to put up barriers at the actual sites? I haven't heard of anyone being turned away once they get there.

Going from the 'burbs to the city for a shot seems much shadier than going from the city to outlying areas (where population density and demand is lower, and they're more likely to have a surplus).
