#3 worst actor nomination thread

the best i can say about the performances i've seen from him is that he's "good-natured." but he is very short of acting style.

i saw Hail Caesar and i'm sorry but i thought he was as replaceable in that as everything else i've seen from him. dancing is his one trick.

he tried to be scary in Hateful Eight but ended up being funny.

Include me in the "dancing is acting" camp.

There's dancing that isn't acting, but he does the acting type. Being a competent actor in Haywire, 21 Jump Street, Side Effects, Hateful 8, Hail Caesar, Logan Lucky and the non-dance sections of the Magics Mike also makes him a competent actor, though.

Quentin Tarantino

QT is unique in that he's one of the only actors QT can't direct into even an interesting-if-not-necessarily-good performance.

Perhaps we need a 'directors-as-actors - S&D' thread.

Thankfully we don't need a 'worst actor related to a director' thread as Ted Raimi has that one tied up nicely.

I've seen Raft in a number of films. And I'm bewildered that so many reputable directors offered him so many roles that were major hits for other actors. His dancing is supposed to be his strong point, but what I've seen is almost as wooden as his acting.

there was a Meisner class on the other side of the building where we were rehearsing/performing a show, and they were some of the smuggest dorks alive. their warmup exercises consisted of screaming and swearing.

I disliked him in Jurassic Park, Dead Calm was playing on TV a lot around that time and I disliked him in it, and I’ve never seen anybody so utterly chops-humiliated as when he was cast opposite Isabelle Adjani (Possession) (tho tbf very few could’ve possibly risen to her level in that film)

I disliked Ed Harris until he became the MVP in Westworld

Christian Bale sucked as Batman and sucked as a child actor but did Patrick Bateman so well it’s impossible to really dislike him

He does a lot of “super committed to physical transformation” roles which isn’t acting but gets points for the effort

Depends. Bale in Empire of The Sun is one of the good child performances.

Respectable choices: Bloom, Benedict Cumberbatch, Eddie Redmayne, i.e. a generation of UK twits whose accents fool people into believing they're useful. This is known as the David Niven Corollary.

I'd include Tom Hiddlestone in that little batch.

- must have successful movie career (no chris noth)
- must never have exhibited a single moment of facility in acting (no dreyfuss because that one laugh in jaws)
- notable novelty element would mean a harder sell for the nominator (no arnie, no madonna, no david spade)
- not liking them is for other ilx threads this is for being terrified at their lack of human presence

I mean this isnt comprehensive but i think its fair and indicative
