I was a long way out on this, I'd got it into my head the second photo was Monterrey Argentina but that the first photo wasn't. Saw the third photo and abandoned any notions of south americ

The incongruous penguin and friends should have been more of a giveaway it wasn't South America

Anyway, who's up next?
― Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 14 March 2021 13:30 (five years ago)
Its only a matter of time before there is one with a branch of Card Factory, a fully grey sky, and a road sign that says Bosom-on-Trent 4 miles and it will be in Wenzhou
― cherry blossom, Sunday, 14 March 2021 13:30 (five years ago)
There will be a perfect replica of The Britannia stadium and a Pulis lookalike on the street outside a hologram of Greggs. It will then turn out that Tony is the manager of Shenzhen Town
― cherry blossom, Sunday, 14 March 2021 13:35 (five years ago)
A much easier one, I think:

Not Alexandria.

Found a mosque which looks very much like that in Dubai, but not next to a highway.
― Bastard Lakes (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 14 March 2021 14:13 (five years ago)
Al Khor, Qatar?
― calzino, Sunday, 14 March 2021 14:15 (five years ago)

Sfax, Tunisia. Was working my way along North African coast and that building came up on the first page of a gis of Sfax. It's a fish market

Indeed it is. Well done!

Monday morning

looks a bit like Manchester at first glance
― calzino, Monday, 15 March 2021 13:12 (five years ago)
Lol I was thinking the estuary and skyline looked like Liverpool, the Mersey and the Wirral from Everton valley if you squint hard enough
― or something, Monday, 15 March 2021 13:24 (five years ago)
I was looking at the river (bay?) and what appears to be a big inlet or tributary - maybe even a massive canal going through the middle of town and I started thinking about one of the ports along the Rhine but I think the Rhine is probably too narrow. Hamburg?
As usual I feel I'd have a better chance if I could see some church towers.
― Tim, Monday, 15 March 2021 13:43 (five years ago)
it looks Nordic and/or Baltic to me, but I don't think the layout is that of Hamburg. Helsinki perhaps?

First instinct is Europe, maybe France? Looking for a French city with an estuary, Le Havre seems like it could fit, similar architecture. Can't find that spot yet tho
― or something, Monday, 15 March 2021 14:07 (five years ago)
don't those pine trees look kinda southern?
― StanM, Monday, 15 March 2021 15:34 (five years ago)
Pretty sure they have those in Normandy at least.
― Tim, Monday, 15 March 2021 15:58 (five years ago)
The trees are throwing me a bit.

I was thinking maybe somewhere in Quebec on the St. Lawrence.
― o. nate, Tuesday, 16 March 2021 19:28 (five years ago)
it's not Montreal, and I don't think there's another option for a place as dense as that
something about the architecture / roofs looks not North American to me
― rob, Tuesday, 16 March 2021 20:00 (five years ago)
I’m pretty sure it’s Perth now.
― Tim, Tuesday, 16 March 2021 20:09 (five years ago)
The trees don't look right for Australia.
― Andy the Grasshopper, Tuesday, 16 March 2021 20:18 (five years ago)
pretty sure it's in a deciduous zone.
― map ca. 1890 (map), Tuesday, 16 March 2021 20:41 (five years ago)
Is it Dnipro, Ukraine? I can't find the exact view from that angle, but some bridges and buildings look very suggestive of being in the right place.
― o. nate, Tuesday, 16 March 2021 20:44 (five years ago)
i've tried the mid-atlantic seaboard in the u.s. and some baltic cities. can't find anything that looks that bright / new lol. feel like it's gotta be a somewhat major shipping port (river adjacent to large body of water?) with those bridges.
xp!
― map ca. 1890 (map), Tuesday, 16 March 2021 20:44 (five years ago)
the row of buildings at center right stretching into the bg looks soviet possibly
― map ca. 1890 (map), Tuesday, 16 March 2021 20:46 (five years ago)

xp, but ima post anyway. Not anywhere in the US, I don't see a single billboard or any large advertisement sign, which would be very unusual in that much city.
― nickn, Tuesday, 16 March 2021 21:21 (five years ago)
Dnipro for sure, this is the red-with-white-stripes building in the bottom right corner:https://goo.gl/maps/wjNfp9u6tZod9EDw9
