that's terrible, OEO, any way to let your co. know this is still happening (and isn't acceptable)?
in MN, in my fifties with no risks, just got an email from my health care provider saying I can make a vaccination appointment.
― by the light of the burning CitroΓ«n, Thursday, 11 March 2021 19:07 (five years ago)
I bristle at caek's repeated insistence that everyone who wants it will be vaccinated by the end of May.
i haven't repeatedly insisted this, and you said yesterday you were going to stop posting about this stuff.
― π ππ’π¨ (caek), Thursday, 11 March 2021 19:20 (five years ago)
You absolutely were insisting that the other day.
I'm glad I have you policing my content though, thanks for that. Can you let me know which thread for posting irrational fears about Covid I'm allowed to post my (mostly) irrational fears about Covid in, if not the one specifically dedicated to posting about irrational fears about Covid? I'm not sure why you have such an axe to grind towards me personally, but go off. You win.
― soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 11 March 2021 19:37 (five years ago)
i've long ago given up on trying to help you get some perspective yourself, but i do repeatedly try to talk you down because this is a public health issue and i don't want other people to think things that aren't true.
you're not posting like someone who thinks they're being irrational. go back and read your posts. last month you had "written off" 2021 (!), and two days ago (!) you expected to wait "26 weeks" to get your shot (!)
but if your point is that you know you're being irrational, and that this is the irrational thread then, well, fair enough! you are and it is.
― π ππ’π¨ (caek), Thursday, 11 March 2021 20:20 (five years ago)
I won't argue with previous posts, absolutely my fears and anxiety have gotten the better of me in the past.
But what I posted today was a direct quote from a local official, giving their anticipated timeline. Just because you find that timeline unlikely to hold, that doesn't mean me sharing it saying things that "aren't true".
― soaring skrrrtpeggios (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 11 March 2021 20:50 (five years ago)
Lots of other people in this thread and others have posted fears and anxieties that may not be universal and/or relatable, but you seem to only consistently pile on me for mine. It feels very personal and targeted.

i had a nurse once remark to herself, when i rolled up my sleeve for a vaccine shot, "oh good, theres hardly any muscle there, this should be really easy." i was like jeez ma'am, I got a lot of other good qualities, gimme a break already.

Full Novavax vaccine efficacy data out, if you havenβt seen it:Very effective vs βclassicβ SARS-CoV-2 (96%) and UK B1.1.7 strain. 55% effective vs SA B1.351 strain, but 100% vs death/hospitalizationAND they say these data will suffice for EUA! https://t.co/3xxDs725FF— Ed MD (@notdred) March 12, 2021

again, i think there's a real opportunity to change the way the world is seen with a COVID Corps but I imagine the administration considers it a political nonstarter until everyone who wants a shot in the us gets a shot. it is immensely fucked up though for sure.

What would be the effect of stacking vaccines? Say getting the two rounds of Pfizer plus the J&J within a few weeks or months of each other. Would there be high potential for serious harm? Would you become super immune?
― Je55e, Friday, 12 March 2021 11:54 (five years ago)
NB I am not seriously considering doing this, but I canβt be the only person thinking about it. And toward the end of the year when supply and distribution are in good shape, it would become feasible. Iβm expecting articles about this phenomenon by July.

I did read somewhere that the UK is looking into whether there's increased effectiveness when they mix up the first and second dose providers (so here it would be AZ for one and Pfizer for the other), but haven't seen any results.

xpost Brad, that was exactly my reaction (in both senses). Super-surreal, imo, to feel fleetingly sick. Like, more or less fine, then sick flu-ish for a few hours, then fine again.

― it's like edging for your mind (the table is the table), Friday, 12 March 2021 14:23 (five years ago)
it wouldn't likely make you 'more immune' to my knowledge, anyway.
the question is more whether you'd need a booster several months down the line, say you got your shots in January but now it's July and things are winding down. That's what many of the studies that went into Phase 3 the earliest are now testing (I actually go in on the 22nd for another round of bloodwork). my guess is the immunity lasts longer than 3 months, and that the '3 month' guideline the CDC is using is just out of caution. but probably doesn't last forever, much like flu shots don't.
I'm not sure if I need to get another set of shots or what, since I had mine in Sept, but until I hear that I do I'm not gonna take away from someone who outright hasn't had any yet.
― Red Nerussi (Neanderthal), Friday, 12 March 2021 15:10 (five years ago)
but agree with above, we should focus on getting vaccines to other nations that need it rather than like, roiding up with extra doses here

The policy in Scotland is you get two doses of the same vaccine, not sure if UK wide is different. I imagine that's impacting on the logistics for early vaccines as we only had Pfizer available at first.

i forget which thread i posted that the consensus is ~3x more people have had it then have tested positive, but here's that:
Man, 38% of people tested for antibodies in this study in California came back positive. 45% in LA!(Not totally clear on the sampling methodology.)https://t.co/ZdHqdydkpk pic.twitter.com/4mRTY2vfJ7— Alexis C. Madrigal (@alexismadrigal) March 12, 2021
Yeah. US has ~30 million confirmed cases (maybe 100 million actual ones?). People keep forgetting that in their calculations. (The number of *very* mainstream media articles that argued we'll never reach herd immunity without taking that number into account.. Too many).— zeynep tufekci (@zeynep) March 12, 2021
― π ππ’π¨ (caek), Friday, 12 March 2021 19:55 (five years ago)
the implication of this is that with 25% of the population having had >= 1 dose, we're fast approaching some level of (likely temporary, weak) herd immunity. everyone should still get fully vaccinated obviously.
― π ππ’π¨ (caek), Friday, 12 March 2021 19:57 (five years ago)

Although likelihood of getting covid and access tovaccination are anticorrelated in the US because lol US healthcare so the overlap here is probably less than in other countries.
